You took on a very tough project and I bet there were points that made you question the whole thing. It seems you have knowledge above the average mechanic that helped you make smart part choices. The most valuable asset you have is your buddies and I hear a lot of laughter which makes me believe you all had fun which is great to have while doing tough work. I always wanted to have a bug with a rear mounted V8 using a kit like Kelmark once produced. Unfortunately my buddies were not into cars that much. I bet your proud of your work and you deserve a lot of credit even to take the project on. Nice work done by all!!

I did a very similar build on my channel years back. I way over thought the shift linkage as well but ended up doing the exact same thing you did and it worked great. I only used the stock water pump to send the coolant all the way to the front and it worked fine. I would recommend having 2 coolant system reservoirs and caps at the two high points just to keep air from forming in either one.

Love DIY, shooting from the hip. Good show You Guys!! I've got a 56 Bug ovalwindow choptop body on a 72 Bug pan(constant camber IRS)with a 67 911S transaxle, 4 whl. cross drilled disc brakes & the front suspension is a hand fabbed chrome-moly subframe locating via heim joints hand fabbed chrome-moly tubular a-arms with coil-overs, with a racing rack( turn & a half lock to lock). I'm hanging a Lexus/Toyota 4.0 ltr. 4 cam aluminum V8(1UZFE)off the Porsche' t-axle. Adaptor plate, flywheel & beefed up Porsche' clutch (228 mm pressure plate/285 ft lb clutch disc)all courtesy of KEP, Kennedy Engineered Products in Palmdale, Ca. They'll build almost any adapt,flywheel, clutch pkg for mating almost any engine to VW/Porsche transaxles one could ask for. If You cut up another Bug, consider using a Super Beetle pan,,,those MacPherson strut front ends are superior ride/handling over the double beam torsion bar trailing arm rigs, in my opinion.
@carlboehm38585 жыл бұрын
Blade Cutter ... I bought an adapter from KEP in about 1973 and put a Buick V-6 on the 1960 Bug transmission. Ended up putting solid transmission mounts after ripping apart several sets. Raced a Buick Wildcat with a 430 engine and best we could do was dead Eve side by side ... Top end pegged out on the Wildcat @ 130 + mph ... Thanks for bringing me back guys ...
@bladecutter38215 жыл бұрын
🎩👍 In the early seventies we were using KEP adapt kits hanging B.O.P. (Buick, Olds, Pontiac)aluminum 215 V-8s off Bug & Bus transaxles. The late model buses with CV joints/constant camber IRS(1968 & later) we would swap the Bus trans units for Bug trans units, for the taller gear ratios. A very successful combo, run down the freeway @ 80-85 getting 25 mpg. You said You hung the V-6 off a 1960 T-axle? 1960 were split case trans bodies, non-synchro 1st gear, at least my 60 was. 1961 was the first year of tunnel type trans bodies w/synchronized 1st gear. Peace
@carlboehm38585 жыл бұрын
Yes mine was a '60 model. I worked at a junkyard and we had the v-6 but no aluminum v-8s or I would have used that. I vaguely remember but I think you are right about the split case on my transmission. I was young, dumb and broke ... didn't put antifreeze in because I couldn't get the cooling system right and ended up cracking the block. Put a 1600 engine back in, drove it for a few more years and sold it to a friend so I could buy a 1970 bus which I sold in 1980 ... Both were still running strong at that time ... Good Memories
@bladecutter38215 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the old days were good. Cars were affordable. Speaking of Buick V-6's, in 73 I bought a clean, straight 65 Buick Special, w/ V-6 off a used car lot for $125.00. Only hockey was a cracked windshield...$35.00 to replace...pounded that car for many road trip miles. In 75 I bought a 69 Dodge Charger for $550.00 off a used car lot & got a ton of fun miles with it. topped it off with a fun day at an autocross, soon after sold the car to a used car lot for $350.00. Many more good deals like that back then. Now it's 5 grand for used POS ring ding junk.
