HONDA HRC 216 "A WORTHLESS GAS MOWER" ?

I'm seeing more & more these Honda's (along with literal flood of all the different brands of gasoline engine lawnmowers) now going up for sale / to then be replaced with a battery powered (or a battery-electric unit) the like. Find these on C.L. and F.B., or at yard-sales like I do. People are literally panicking now and want to be rid of these QUALITY machines ... why ?.
FACT: Honda is saying they'll soon discontinue ALL production of any gasoline engine powered lawnmower in the near future, so I'm finding that (when the nicer Honda's happen along) I'll snap them up and THEN "recondition" them. Then (afterword), I'll put them put them away (like an extinct Model T Ford), to see in the years to come just what might / will happen.
People are so enamored with battery powered 'ANYTHING' now, that it's manifesting itself into out & out GUILT !. So, opinions are many ... but mines to relieve that "guilt", BUY THESE, and have some fun in my 'refurbishing' these beautiful machines ("after I purchase them for literally less than a forth of what people initially paid for literal pennies on the dollar") !. What's YOUR Opinion ?.

To landscapers, Honda's HRC 216 is like the AR-15 firearm, the best weapon in his arsenal: one pull, one start. I purchased one in the mid-eighties, a model HRC 216-AD, type HXA. The engine lasted for 40-years of residential use before it through a rod this week--right out the side of the case. Fortunately, I was able to procure a long block off eBay, what appears to be a Honda compatible. We shall see how long it last. For the record, I have zero interest in an electric mower. My 93-year-old mother has one of those "Playstation" mowers, a Black and Decker 36V, and it is already dead as a doornail.

Careful ... "or were coming after / for YOU" ! (ROFLOL). The (this) whole thing is literally ridiculous / amid something that "isn't even there". These 'freakout people' astound me and there falling for all this hook - line "and battery". 🤥 I'm [now] am on my 5th Machine, and I'm getting more an more fussy with what I'll buy / or "offer" to buy. I think however (now), that I'm gonna stop and see where all this goes. I LOVE Your analogy / + couldn't agree MORE. 😂

I just acquired a 30 year old HR215 electric start model with every bell and whistle in superb condition for $50 from an estate sale. It probably saw three seasons max before the coil died and it sat. I replaced the coil, changed the oil, installed a 3d printed 20v lithium drill battery mount to replace the dead starting battery and now it’s a beautiful running machine that’s so much nicer than my 60v Greenworks electric push mower. I’m planning on using it the rest of my life, as it’s the same mower with the same engine as the commercial line without being called ‘commercial’. Quality all around and as clean running as a four stroke can get. People will regret jumping on the electric train. My 60v Greenworks mower has no power or suction. Pine needles, dog poop, pine cones, they all mat down into the grass. Five minutes of mowing with the vintage HR215, the grass is now bare and clean. Incredible.

These things are (and will BOTH agree), the BEST Lawnmowers EVER. I am seeing more and more, and I'm now getting much more selective in what I'm buying, as they seem to be everywhere. After that, I have FUN "recycling these amazing machines. After that: even more fun looking / watching / and MEETING the various 'Sellers' ... thinking they've played-me for a fool for even buying, what THEY BELIEVE ta be a soon "outlawed machine" !.

@@TommyZTrainsI couldn’t agree more. People will wake up one day and realize their mistakes. Electric stuff is more convenient, lighter to maneuver, etc. but they severely lack in suction, long term reliability and power. My yard became matted and compacted during the three years I used electric after my 2006 Honda HRR216 died and I sold it. Found the 60v mower at a yardsale for $75 and thought it was great at first but then I acquired a 2017 John Deere D110 with a bagging system and 70 hours on the clock for $450 with a blown head gasket. Fixed it and was blown away by its vacuum and clean cut. Then I found this Honda HR215 and the electric stuff is history. There’s nothing better than the sound and feel of a well-tuned precision machine doing a great job - what it was designed to do. I think all this electric equipment is gimmicky, sold to maximize profits. I’d rather keep a quality machine running smoothly for decades to come than to babysit batteries and hope they continue to work from year to year.

Whats so great about electric?.My funace is gas .I had it put in 5 years ago for 2500 and it saved me 50 dollars a month cause 95 percent efficient.My brother had a heat pump put in last year and spent 8 grand and it wont heat the whole house .

@airborneadventurer 2 ай бұрын
@@raypalermo1603 In the years I used electric yard equipment, I didn’t have to service any of it. Just string on the weed eater. It’s convenient at the cost of being almost impossible to repair unless you scavenge for used parts. Greenworks doesn’t sell parts and after the warranty period is up, the devices are pretty much disposable. I had a Greenworks 60v cordless snow blower and I would do about one driveway per battery. I’ve since been given a Honda snowblower and am looking forward to being able to clear more snow this winter. For the average .25-.35 acre homeowner, electric is the way to go. For someone who likes repairing things along the way as I do, gas is king.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one! Man are times strange. I never imagined growing up people would ditch gas powered anything. But hey in a way it’s win for “old school” guys huh! One man’s trash another man’s treasure. Love your attention to detail and treating a machine like it knows what it wants! Make it run at its full potential!

Ive used an HRC and an HRX for years. The HRX is good for flats and tight areas (lightweight) The HRC shines on awkward/hilly/ wet and basically any other terrain over the HRX. The HRC is just planted at all times. Its a bear to move around but worth it.

Purchased one of these new in 2011 and have been using it every season without fail. Just tore it down and replaced a bunch of rusty parts. I would disagree though that these are dropping in value. In fact I believe that these will begin to appreciate as they become more scarce. A nice example in the shape of the one you worked on gets upwards of a grand in my area. Landscapers will pay all the money for the nice examples as they know they are a work horse.

Never said I THOUGHT they were "losing" value Jeff ... my remarks are aligned with the people whom ALREADY have these, **and "THEY" think they'll be taken away or something** / because their GAS Pwr'ed ... Again: I see them all over the place, and people do NOT seem to want a "gas anything" anymore ... so they sit-and sit (the last one was 18 weeks with no takers), and I move in and lowball offer them, and when I loading the machine up they'll remark that I cannot bring it back BECAUSE it's a gas machine and THEY are NOT responsible ! ... and: with that: I get the better one's for literally pennies on the dollar. I now have 5 machines ..... "You tell me".

Great vidoe, I'm an HRC216 owner myself, im not a mechanic and just do basic maintenance so I learned a lot this video. Is there a reason that the rpms arent as strong as before? It doesn't go as fast anymore, would greasing the ball bearings like you did help with that? Is it just grease that you put on them?
@TommyZTrains
@TommyZTrains Ай бұрын
That won't help (in an RPM regard), and I wouldn't really worry about your "little personality change" amid the governed speed. It CAN be moved, but I'm quite sure that overall you are happy with the machines performance ? / and there is a governor spring, that perhaps has lost just a tiny bit of tinsel (strength) ... so, if your running the motor and look on the left side; you will see a network of links / and it is there that you'll find an "arm" that you carefully can bend to INCREASE spring "tinsel" strength. *I know this won't make a lot of sense, but I'm afraid that it's rather involved to do this procedure unless your well familiar with the machines "build". END RUN: you haven't any "real-issue" right ? / SO then; "just leave things alone" / but KNOW that under ANY load, the machine WILL compensate for ANY "load" that you can happen to throw at it / = "everything's ok". 🙃 Just keep the blades nice n' sharp, give it a bit of a lube, and you'll enjoy FOREVER performance. Take CARE.

I see a surprising amount of battery lawn mowers for sale. I am not sure if people buy them then regret it or what. I will stick to gas mowers myself. I am still running an old school snapper which might be the best mower I ever owned and its over 20 years old.

The poor saps are buying those electric mowers out of GUILT, and within a year the battery dies, and they put them out on the curb for trash. Then their buying a used gas mower because they just work if they take care of them.

I guess powered battery powered trimmers are great for homeowners who only “edge”the yard every two weeks! I’m serious. Homeowners who don’t use them commercially. They would be good string trimmers and things smaller than that! Perhaps even small chainsaw for occasionally use. But lawnmowers & especially riding mowers NO!!
