Review of the Honda Jazz RS Sport Limited by CarNut.kiwi
You wouldn't think a Jazz is the most suitable platform to bolt a whole boatload of look-fast accessories to...but that's exactly what Honda has done. Can this pint-sized city car live up to it's Mugen add-ons?? Let's drive it and see.

One of the best reviews out there in fact my fav rev of this car. Got one of this and I'm pretty happy. It is like a go kart, small, nimble to drive, and quite big in the inside.Only down size is there is a lot of noise above 100 km/h and the drive is choppy in the city.

Nice review, I've had the RS model for about a year and a half - it's not perfect, but I enjoy driving it. It's big enough to fit the dog in, and easily overtakes most slow-pokes with a quick pull on the shifter paddle.

"Running on the smell of an oily rag" had me rolling. I have a 2020 Honda Fit I live in the country and I love my Fit so much and it handles well. I have the EX trim.

Have had a 6MT one of these for a couple of years now. Your thoughts are right, the manual is miles better than the CVT (have driven both extensively) - manual is much faster and gives a better noise with the Mugen exhaust etc (doesn't drone its way up the gears, sounds like a good old 'Type R' sporty Honda). Fuel economy is even better too. Wish you had a chance to demo some twisty roads - so much fun to drive!

I just picked one up... have it for 10 days now and loving it. In my country the spec is different... firstly it's called a Fit Sport here, and it has the 1.3 Earth Dreams engine instead of the 1.5 DI, but has all the other goodies of the regular RS model in your market. The transmission is the same though, a CVT with sport mode and paddle shifters. Just a correction... technically it has 14 selectable ratios... 7 when in Drive, because you can touch one of the paddles to temporarily put it in manual mode... then 7 more when in sport mode. I've checked and the same numbered ratio is NOT the same in both modes, ie for example ratio 3 in D is discernibly less aggressive than ratio 3 in sport mode. I did pick up on the tyre roar on less than perfect roads, and the suspension on the Sport/RS model is slightly stiffer than the standard car, and it can feel ever so slightly jittery at times, but thankfully never unstable. Those are my only two gripes with it so far. I got it as a replacement to my 2013 Ford Fiesta 1.4 auto sedan. That car was a fair bit more refined while having more compliant suspension yet slightly better handling, but it a nightmare in terms of problems. I bought it brand new in 2013 and since then I've experienced steering column and drive axle failures, it never performed a proper cold start (and I live in the tropics so it's never actually cold)... the engine would sputter and even cut off when "cold", then different pieces of interior trim either broke, discoloured, or tarnished, and the icing on the cake that caused me to get rid of it was an unidentified rattling/whistling noise from the engine. It had a 5 year warranty so I never paid for any of the repairs, but the dealer service was awful as well, so when the engine started to make that noise I told them that's it, give me my money back! That's how I got into a brand new Fit... and I'm pretty sure it will prove to be more reliable!

Great review, and i enjoyed your humour. I took an RS with the CVT for a test drive when they were launched in NZ and reached similar conclusions. On the 16 inch wheels and higher profile tyres, the road noise wasn't too bad (also on chip sealcroads). While the 97kw motor and paddle shift on the CVT were rapid and fun, the engine sounded very harsh when reved out. I liked the RS model, a lot. The kit, space and price are great, but I do struggle to like the looks, for me there are just too many creases and scallops. That said, I still think its the best new small car on the NZ market (I bought a second hand GTi instead, but next time, I'd probably go new Jazz for the same money, except the servicing costs with a main dealer are higher than for the Golf with an independent......weird that).

Isn't CVT more efficient than the 6 speed? Drag races show that the CVT out performs the 6 speed even with a skilled driver behind the wheel of the manual.

People really underrate the CVT. I think because the power is delivered in a very smooth linear fashion people think its slower than it actually is. It's no Fiesta ST but it's still a good margin better than a Yaris or Mazda2.

good review, we have the standard RS model and it's a little ripper! 97 kw of power is pretty damn good from a na 1.5 engine, pretty much out in front of other in this class and not at all bad for a city car. my wife loves it and this is her third to date. Hondas new earth dreams engines are very punchy and very efficient. I'm waiting for the new Civic 1.5 turbo Hatch to arrive and will snap one up.

Better add paddle shifters to shift your transmission that doesn't have gears to shift!

Fair enough, I'm not a big fan of semi's except for DSG. I like the Honda 6 speed box, I'm a bit old school 8-)
