Honda Jazz Summary - Should YOU Buy One?

An astonishing number of Honda Jazz owners buy another and the MK4 model we're looking at here aims to keep them loyal. But the Japanese brand also needs to attract new converts to its clever little supermini, hence the decision to switch exclusively to full-Hybrid powerplant for this latest model. Plus there's an SUV-style Crosstar variant that aims to play to the Nissan Juke and Captur crowd. The good news is that despite all the new battery technology, the passenger compartment is still as flexible and practical as ever.
Market and Model
Prices start from around £19,000 for the entry-level 'SE' variant. You'll need a further £1,200 to get the mid-range 'SR' variant, while the plushest 'EX' derivative costs just under £21,500. The top version is the Crossover-inspired Jazz Crosstar, which will set you back over £25,500. Standard features include adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and automatic headlights, plus there's 'Apple CarPlay' and 'Android Auto' smartphone-mirroring. Black paint will be the default cost-free option while six other paint shades are also available. The Crosstar version is exclusively available in two-tone combinations with a gloss-black roof.
Infotainment and connectivity benefit from a much improved voice command system, the Honda 'Personal Assistant', first seen on the little Honda e. This is basically a next-generation voice control system in that it can respond to multiple commands: for instance "OK Honda, find me an Indian restaurant with WiFi and free parking". The set-up would then display suitable options on the fascia's central touchscreen before plotting a route to the chosen destination. With this car, Honda is also offering the latest version of its Honda+ smartphone app, which includes remote vehicle locking and unlocking, plus 'intelligent geofencing', which alerts an owner if the vehicle breaches a pre-set 'geofence' zone. Plus there's the ability to send journey information from the app to the car's navigation system.
Cost of Ownership
You'd hope that with all that hybrid technology on board, this Jazz would be a frugal thing and, by and large, it is. The standard model has claimed WLTP-rated combined cycle economy and emissions figures of 62.8mpg and 102g/km. For the top Crosstar variant, the figures are 58.9mpg and 110g/km. Many customers will want to budget ahead for scheduled maintenance with fixed-price scheme called 'Five'. It includes five years' worth of maintenance, an extended warranty for this period and roadside assistance breakdown cover should the unexpected happen. This can be transferred to a new owner if you sell the car before the service plan has expired.
Residual values are expected to be significantly better than most other supermini segment rivals. And the three year 90,000 mile warranty is better than the package you get from many competitors too. In addition, surface corrosion is covered for three years, exhaust corrosion is covered for five years, chassis corrosion is covered for ten years and structural corrosion for twelve years.
Summary
Honda does things differently - and we can't help liking that. Whether the model in question is a Civic, a Clarity fuel cell vehicle or a Type R hot hatch, you'll find that it's been uniquely engineered and packaged - as is the case with this Jazz. This always used to be the supermini that motoring experts would recommend as the small car they'd buy with their own money. For us, it still is.
Despite this MK4 model's fresh hybrid tech, the packaging of this design remains difficult to beat. Yes, rivals have become classier, more dynamic and more up-market. Whether they're also better where it really matters though, is quite another question. For its loyal, dedicated band of buyers, this Jazz always will be. Try one and you'll understand.

FYI The new Jazz is available with a standard 1.5L DOHC VTEC engine, as well as the new hybrid powertrain, in New Zealand (and presumably in other markets also). The hybrid version is only available here as the ‘e-HEV Luxe’ model, which doesn’t have the option of Crosstar trim, sadly. Excellent review, as always!

I love this car, it's great to drive, and I'll probably get one, but some odd decisions have been made on it. 1: The front and wing mirror indicator lights are LED, but the rear indicators are old fashioned tungsten halogen, as are the reversing lights and the boot light (unless you pay £50 extra). It's a strange combination of old and new technology. 2: Apple owners get wireless Apple Carplay, but Android users have to use a cable. And yet a simple change of a setting in a hidden menu allows Android users to go wireless, too. Why the discrimination? 3: Those plastic wheel trims. 4: The rather awkward way the split between the bodywork and the boot lid doesn't align with the split in the tail lights.

I actually think that you have a very good car in your hands if those strange features are the ones to attract your attention after all. Non of these features affect the driving itself. Unless you haven't bought the car yet, perhaps you should. The Jazz is very practical and sensible and in my opinion refreshingly timeless. My wish is to be able to buy this car in the near future.

The step in the boot floor when folding tje seats is a real shame, I had a MK1 and it was like a little van and so easy to put stuff in and out, this won't be as practical.

From every exterior vantage point it looks like it was created by a committee that couldn't make up its mind what it finally wanted. One almighty mishmash. Overall a design disaster. The shape of the bonnet reminds me of the generous facial features of Miss Piggy. Put a black dot in the centre of each headlamp, add a pair of eyelashes and the image is complete...

The white car you can get the dark interior (Seats) The Cross star pale blue, NO CHOICE of dark seats? Just the three tone pale(white interior), water resistant fabric? Plus two choices of white? But no silver colour? I'm on the fence. Honda , we need more choice.

Well, it's hard to understand this review. The narrator says the petrol engine's main job is to act as a generator. I've never heard of such a thing, Is this a new kind of petrol engine? According to Honda, the engine does not act as a generator. Rather, there is a separate generator and it is operated by the engine.

@@OsvUkVehicleSupply Aha. I erroneously assumed you were a reviewer. I didn't realize you were a broker. That explains why I found it hard to understand your review. I don't live in the UK. Because Honda dealerships in the United States are not selling this model, even if I wanted to spring for the extra cost of having one of the very nice 2021 models shipped to the US, from the UK or from Europe, there would be 2 problems with that: (1) my local mechanics would not be familiar with it and (2) maintaining it myself would be difficult until I move to my new place, with a garage and a lift, in another year or 2 ( I am now doing oil changes in empty abandoned parking lots where a store went out of business and it is not a pleasant place to work). Anyway, my 2015 Jazz/Fit is still working for me. And it has a greater volume of cargo space. To be fair, although the cargo space for the 2021 model has a smaller volume, the vehicle has a greater load-weight capacity. It is 850 pounds (385 kg) for the 2015 Jazz-Fit, and over1000 pounds (450 kg) for the 2021 Jazz-Fit..
