Same experience with the Hondata basemaps.. And I am also in the NE with similar elevation and weather.. I tried all 3 k24 maps.. The CRV, the standard TSX k24a2, and the bolt on K24a2.. They all had my car idling wonky and running super rich.

The reason the CRV basemap sucks has to do with having it’s VTEC at 2200 RPM. This is because the CRVs use VTEC-E, which is designed for fuel economy instead of power. No idea how to “fix” that myself, though. I’m not sure if it’s a limitation of the camshafts or the entire head/rocker assembly itself. Or maybe it’s possible to push the VTEC crossover above your redline so that you’ll be able to use all 16 valves for the full powerband (VTEC-E basically turns your engine into a 12 valve engine when it engages.) If my explanation doesn’t make much sense, just leave a comment and I’ll try to explain more clearly. I’d love to of any help, if possible. Hopefully this information helps you get a little closer to a solution so you can continue squeezing every bit of power that you can out of that engine. Great work so far man, can’t wait to see what’s next in store!

I stumbled onto this channel for a DIY vid and subscribed just because you're regular dude like me with a 8th gen si. I Personally went k20/k24a and think its the best of both worlds. z3 valve train is beefier and head has better flow. I'm at 230/185 whp but 2 1/2 exhaust is definitely a restriction on a k24.

Hey Gerb, what has worked for me when replacing the coolant is to leave the cap open, start the car and you will see bubbles and the fluid drain down as it gets warmer, then you keep topping it off until it won’t take anymore and the bubbles should disappear eventually.

@@louis1234_ ayeee 9th gen buddy! right now im pretty much FBO. my rbc manifold is not ported. but when i got the car tuned, it made 215whp thats on a 25+ degrees celsius environment (not very ideal for tuning lol) one of the last few pulls couldve made 220+ but the clutch slipped so didnt really count that as an actual pull. Buddy of mine also has the same setup as me and he got tuned when it was around 15degrees celsius; he made 223whp

Gerb well I swapped it about a year ago cause I cracked the block and warped the head. And now about a week ago, I ran low on oil not knowing. There was a rattling sound but I thought it was a loose heat shield or bracket as I just installed headers. It was not the heat shield. It was the motor. I put about 2 quarts of oil to make it home but I didn’t end up making it home and had to call a tow truck. And now here I am putting a k24 in again. At least I don’t need to buy any of the parts that are needed to fit the k24 🤷🏻‍♂️ & I got a pretty good deal on the motor

the crv has a ivtec-e which engages all 4 valves per cylinder after 2200 rpm and not the regular ivtec that increases valve lift

Its a 2.0 liter vs a 2.4 liter... they pretty much make similar hp and the k24 makes a little more tq. In a drag race the 2.4 MAY beat it by 2-3 cars.. its not typically a huge difference.

Honda Guy82 no quarter miles times, but I do have some old pulls, so I’ll probs do like a side by side comparison k20 vs k24. My new k24 has the same HP as my k20z3, 197hp, stock. Only difference really is torque, rev limiter, and where the power comes in. I honestly love both, it’s hard to pick which is better and alll that jazzzzz. But I will let you all know which one I prefer and why..

Doesn't the CRV use economy VTEC? So it goes from 3-valve to 4-valve low lift at ~2k RPM? I would think with the performance k24 that you swapped you'd actually lose torque down low with the high cam engaging that early. Either way, nice to see it running again!
