Guys, I do love your content, but it seems like your builds are never ending. I can’t remember the last time your did consistent track day vids like before (I’m sure you are also aware of this). I do still enjoy your content though. It would be great if you could reduce the amount of projects on the go to have more track day vids (Easy for me to say). That 5 day event across Canada with the BRZ a few years back was perfect 👌🏾. Keep up all your hard work though, I’ll shut up now 👍🏾.

At 4:55 you torque down the oil pump chain guide. All data and all other repair guides I have looked at say that those two bolts are M8x1.25 bolts with a torque spec of 16ft lbs. I found out the hard way that 16 ft lbs is way too much, and snapped the bolt. I then discovered that those two bolts on my engine are M6x1.0 bolts, not M8x1.25. What did you torque those down to? I am likely going to torque mine to 8.7ft lbs, which is what the torque spec is of the timing chain guide bolts, which are also also M6x1.0 bolts. The car I'm working on is an 08 accord 2.4 K24Z2 (I believe not PZEV).

Have you guys ever heard of adding another click of tension by slightly prying more tension on the chain after pulling the pin? If so, any thoughts on if it's a good or bad idea?
@speedacademy

Dont get how that would do anything as the tensioner is based on hydraulic pressure and will move in and out so adding a click shouldnt matter.

Generally, with an RBC like manifold (s2k in your case) you can advance the cam in the mid range and gain a decent amount of torque. Its almost always a significant amount more than the standard RBB vtc can supply@25 degrees. Although that Nissan may not be able to handle all that TEC rippin’ ...25 might be a safe start for her 😛

Guys. Why not a new timing chain? That one is mega strected. Look how loose it is when installing around the crank before the tensioner is on. Also how far the tensioner came out when you pulled the pin. I'd highly recommend a new one if your going to race.

Way didn't y'all rotate the engine over and recheck the time Mark's?? I guess my Mitsubishi engine is different. But after you pull the pin in the tentioner. You rotate the Crank 6 times back to TDC. And recheck the marks. And do a measurement from the hydraulic tentioner to the tentioner pully arm. It's super important. One tooth of can make it run terrible. Two teeth off. And you bend valves on start up.
@speedacademy
@speedacademy 6 жыл бұрын
We actually did do it but you have to spin the engine over around 50 times before it is at TDC again. I always double check my timing marks that way, cant be too safe.
