Just some personal thoughts riding my Honda NC750X DCT with 242,500K and how I feel it performs. I'm 67 and I'm not riding like I stole it but I ride to enjoy the wind in my face and the feeling of Freedom on 2 wheels.
join me riding in Chiang Mai on the Samoeng Loop as I discuss some of observations riding my NC

I have the 2023 model..DCT….returning after 42 years…re learning slow riding…balance etc, getting some refresher lessons on a smaller bike….I love my 60th birthday present from my wife…I will be a fair weather rider, I have no need to return to cold wet awful journeys, my island of Jersey is small….long hot summers, ideal….it’s my toy, and I’ll enjoy every second of it…..already I am finding the weight just fine…and getting used to throttle control and feathering back brake practicing U turns…..great fun…thanks for the super review…and yep I smile..cheers

Your comment that the NC750x has been more popular in Europe than in the US seems to be born out by the 2023 offerings from Honda. In the US, only the DCT with one color is available, and in Europe both the manual and DCT are available with four different colors. Also, as usual, the new Transalp seems to be available in Europe but not the US. I guess we are the ugly stepchild to the motorcycle world? You have so much content that looks so great. I'll be spending a lot of my winter days watching them. Thank you, Mike. Take care. Doug

I will keep you posted on my quest. Thanks to your email and videos, I am now looking at buying the DCT rather than the manual, even though a major concern to me is the added 20lbs weight. I just found a new NC at a local dealer and I plan to take the first "step" and see how I fit sitting on it. It has the lower seat and less suspension (its the 2021 model year) and I have been thinking I'd prefer the prior model version (2018~2020) with the higher seat and longer suspension travel. Anyway, thanks for everything. I'll let you know how it goes. Doug

In Thailand too. 🙂 Love DCT too. 🙂Had Gen 1 XADV. Sold to upgrade to new Gen 2 XADV but 6 months and counting with delivery nowhere in sight. Who knows??? Serious supply chain woes. Honda Big Wing rather in the dark on delivery estimates. 🙁 Just last month did Nan, Phayao, Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, and Mae Hong Son on my BMW F900XR. Epic. But I really look forward to the new XADV. Leaving this weekend for Phuket Bike Week. Happy to see the reliability and robustness you're getting on the NC750. Appreciate your updates and shared passion for Hondas excellent platform NC/XADV. Oh, on several bikes I switched to Lithium Ion battery. Expensive but better performance and longevity.

242,500 km is a tribute to how good this bike is. No burning of oil, either. A water pump, that's all. I am tempted to buy one of these. With the DCT, as I can paddle shift in manual-mode if I want to. Do you live in Chiang Mai, Mike? Interesting video.

Great video Mike! You’re great ambassador for the brand and its qualities. Hope you get the recognition. At the mileage your NC is in one would imagine some wear and tear on the dct. Does it change gears any differently than at lower mileage? Any slipping on the clutch(es?). Oil changes? Sorry if I’ve missed you answering these somewhere else on your videos.
@mikefreeriderAsia
@mikefreeriderAsia 2 жыл бұрын
No worries I'm always able to answer questions when I can especially right now I'm stuck under an underpass with the torrential downpour in Thailand. As far as the DCT the shifting is still good but I have the older technology which is only two choices so I actually paddle most of the time in sport mode and I do it without thinking about it at all. I currently change the oil every 12,000 km with Honda 100% synthetic and oil changes are done at the Honda dealerships in Thailand which is very reasonable. I just got back from a suspension checkup because I used yss suspension and they give great service here in Thailand. This included you work well and oil in the shock and the whole thing amounted to about 150 us complete service with another 6-month warranty. Thanks for your kind comments and just the FYI my mileage is now at 255,000 km.

I'm enjoying your videos (and am a bit jealous)....The 750x doesn't seem to be popular in the US and I can't find one at a dealer to look at. If I get a new one, I'll have to order it sight-unseen. I'm told the deposit is refundable, but also that bikes are taking 6-12 months to get in. I wonder if you find that, between the DCT and the chain, the bike is herky-jerky at low speeds?
@mikefreeriderAsia
@mikefreeriderAsia Жыл бұрын
There's a little bit of a learning curve at the beginning to riding a DCT but the new bikes are much smoother than my model and riding at low speeds you just have to learn how to control the throttle because you don't have a clutch or you can use the back brake but I would not go back. Hopefully you can find one because they are available in Canada but very limited and the most important thing ride safe and thanks for watching

Great review, just keep it up and more subscribers will come!! You are the reason why many people bought NC750x dct. But ..., how did you end up there and why?
@mikefreeriderAsia
@mikefreeriderAsia 2 жыл бұрын
Well I ended up in Thailand because I was doing international business and it was one of the places where I had factories making products for a company in Canada including China Malaysia Indonesia and I always like Thailand and when I started my own company I decided to live here because I was much closer to my sources and approximately 7 years ago I bought a scooter and then I bought a bigger scooter and started to travel around and loved it and next thing you know I bought a cb500x and in my first year I wrote 50,000 km meanwhile international business was going for a crap so I focused on riding my motorcycle and enjoying life. It's a little bit of an addiction but I love riding and thank you for your kind words.

@@mikefreeriderAsia Thanks for your detailed answer Mike, I really appreciate it. So you are the right man to answer my question, because I am hesitant between new cb500x, nc750x dct and x-adv 750. Which bike do you recommend given that I will travel 1300 km once a year from Germany to Croatia, the rest of the year I will ride here around my city. You owned all three and I think you can provide the best answer. The speed of the motorcycle doesn't matter to me, maybe just a little on the highway for long distances, but I honestly don't pay attention to top speed.
@mikefreeriderAsia
@mikefreeriderAsia 2 жыл бұрын
@@photoenduro well personally I would go with the NC because of the low torque engine and low center of gravity it's a very easy motorcycle to travel on. The cb500x is awesome but at the same speed you're at twice the RPM . As for the X-ADV it's truly a great Highway motorcycle offering lots of protection in inclement weather but for someone who likes to do some off-road it has a lot of plastic and not a good idea to drop, also servicing that motorcycle is a bit more complicated given the fact that you have a lot of panels to remove. So I would gravitate back to the NC, the DCT for me is a big factor and also the front storage or Frunk is such a great idea and that's where I keep all my documents while I'm traveling and can keep it locked, obviously I don't leave anything in there overnight but bring it back to my room but while I'm riding it is definitely a game changer. If you have anything else you would like me to answer you are more than welcome to ask. I'm not a professional just an enthusiastic motorcycle rider.

Hi, Mike: I am very interested in buying an NC750x, but I am torn between getting the manual vs. the DCT. I am in the US and finding either is not all that easy due to the Covid shortages and inability to rent either for a test ride. And, of course, the dealers generally stopped giving test rides several years ago. I'm 80 now and just sold my 2009 r1200gs about a year ago due to some medical issue and due to its weight. I just got tired of pushing it around at 540lbs stripped. Anyway, I am curious on your use of the DCT. In some of your videos you talk about how you usually use the paddle shift buttons. You also talk about how your DCT is an early version. Can you tell me what year your bike is? Also, when you ride, do you use the Sport mode, Standard mode, rider custom mode? I love the design concept of the DCT with the low center of mass and the overall design. I'm 6'3 so I think I will stick with the 2018~2023 models with the higher seat and the longer suspension travel (by one inch), and I reckon this will be my last bike. My sunset is approaching so I want to get it right. And, of course, thanks for sharing your wonderful videos. Doug Walsh
@mikefreeriderAsia
@mikefreeriderAsia Жыл бұрын
Well of course you're most welcome my model is a 2014 so it only has two modes which is sport and drive, so I usually Ride in sport and then I paddle shift when needed. Choice of DCT vs. Manual for me I would definitely choose DCT for many reasons and I still ride a CRF250L which is manual but if they made a DCT I would definitely buy one. The NC750X was never been a popular model in the USA but very popular in Europe. I'm 68 and 5 ft 4 so I'm vertically challenged but I can handle it. If you have any questions at all please just ask,

Hi Mike , phenomenal reliability from your Honda . I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. Does the DCT share the same oil as the engine ? Or does it have a separate oil supply ? Do you use a Scottoiler on your chain to get such good chain life ?Enjoy the roads and ride safe !
@mikefreeriderAsia
@mikefreeriderAsia 2 жыл бұрын
Yes the DCT clutch uses the same oil and when you change the oil you should change your DCT oil filter as well as the engine filter. Regarding chain I've had a couple of different oilers and they somewhat last and I just purchased one from China and I'll do a review on that later but it seems to be working and it's not very expensive. But I typically oil the hell out of my chain I'm not worried about the bling bling look of a shiny bike because I'm riding it so much I do wash it once a while but it's not the priority but keeping the oil on the chain whether it's manual or spray is pretty important. I had a Tutoro oiler, I had a Scott oiler on my X-ADV and that worked quite well but it's quite expensive here and a pain to set up because I had to go off of the vacuum. I hope this helps, if not just give me a holler

@@mikefreeriderAsia 5555! 888 km on one day would kill my butt, doesn´t matter what bike... Here in germany the crf300 is not really a choice, because most forrestroads are illegal to ride with a bike and on the streets... well average speed is about 100 km/h for cars, so it becomes difficult to take over, especially here in the blackforest region with curvy and steep roads. Here the 750X shines! At the Mae Hong Son I enjoyed the new tarmak but what I really missed was the sandy sideroads. We did the trip with CB500X with streettires so it was not really a choice to go on to dirtroads...
