Great review! Entirely in agreement! I only bought my ST1300 at the end of this August. (02 plate). With regards to the so called Pan weave, last week I took mine on a mini break to Holland. Both panniers and top box up to full recommended weight limit, screen at highest setting, with my Mrs on the back. Absolutely no sign of a wobble or weave up to 90 mph. Totally planted and stable. Love it to bits!!

It's a bit of a accountants bike, but it does everything so well, I love mine, and whilst tempted by other bikes, soon as I swing a leg back over and do 40-50 miles round the circuit I have round here, I fall back in love with her. Mines to 2004, the only negative is maintenance and the amount of fairing you have to remove, but its a small price to pay.

Weeeeeee lol. She sounds as smooth as silk I bet that's great on a long run in the summer. Not heard of the wobble problems before, wounder if it was a fault with that particular bike. Great video mate love all the detail

Mark I believe it was the weight of all the radio kit etc in the back box unbalanced the machine The amount of fuel ideally kept to 50% this keeps the weight down and makes it easier to handle nothing to do with that crash it's just a very heavy bike and has a lower fuel tank to keep a low center of gravity The bike is awesome hence why owners keep them which is a statement in itself . Good maintenance it will last forever.

Just to be aware I have a 2006 ST1300 ABS was out on an A road last week and the back wheel froze up, was stuck in the middle of the road the road was dry so the bike stopped in a straight line luckily as you can imagine could have been very dangerous especially if I was on the motorway. I looked at the back wheel and it was red hot after I could not move the bike, after about 10 mins tried the bike again and could move it so managed to get to the side of the road and then took the bike home. Have found out that the issue was a corroded SMC which is part of the abs which controls the braking on the back wheel, if it gets corroded it can lock the back wheel which mine did. My bike has 80.000 on it now bought it 4 years ago with 29.000 on the bike just a word of warning to get this checked for corrosion every 10.000 miles or so you would not want this happening on the 3rd lane on the motorway and was told by someone on the St1300 forum a few cops in America have been thrown off there bikes due to this issue, I'm just waiting on the part coming from America as no Honda dealer in the U.K. had the part and was on back order so would have to be ordered from Japan, take care everyone.

Yes I have heard of this but the weave was more dangers ! They will do high miles but you have to service and keep them in good stead and free from corrosion well as much as possible Take care bud and you were lucky

Thanks for that Mark, never go above 70 on mine so I'm pretty ok on that one, just waiting for the part now been stuck in Erlanger on eBay USA shipping since July 17th, great vids by the way.

Apparently, all the police equipment on the bike caused the wobble.
@marksavage
@marksavage 5 жыл бұрын
police and the paramedics gear was heavy and they ride at speed so they had to ride only with 3/4 of a tank, screen down well they disable it and not go over 80 mph however for me I never noticed any wobble and all in a great bike to ride thanks for your comment and watching

Interesting hearing about the high speed shake and Hondas suggestions to stop it. Have you tried the new gold wing?
@marksavage
@marksavage 6 жыл бұрын
DervMan hi bud No never had or sat on one, you have to be 50 to own a pan but 60 plus for a gold wing Pmsl but really they are a massive bikes and still even old ones fetch good money Have you had one bud Mark
@TheDervMan
@TheDervMan 6 жыл бұрын
mark savage lol. But you’re only 35 so why are you riding a Pan? 😉. Can honestly say I’ve never even sat on a Gold Wing, don’t really see the point in something that big....... but since they released the new once with DCT I’m drawn towards it 😱 and I’m only 21 😎
@marksavage
@marksavage 6 жыл бұрын
ha ha ha 35 i wise thats funny coming form a young lad of 21!!, wait a minutes are you sure your 21 pmsl they are really so big and weigh a ton, ive seen the new sort of low rider one and is that DCT, think ill stick to the pan for a bit and it should be great over the winter i think your honda does everythnig you need it to, not sure where i go if i sell the pan as had everything else lol take care Steve mark

I have had my pan up to 225 Kph and have had no wobble or other problems, guess it is just the way they use the bike. At high speeds {over 130/140 Kph} you need to lower your screen because most have the screen way up. If you are riding alone and have no duo and don't need the topbox, take it of because it will cause some drag. As i said, i never had any problems what so ever.

Hi Mark, love your videos on the ST1300. Ive got a radio too on my 2005 model but I don’t have any instructions, do you have the manual by any chance? Also, when the volume goes past 23 the signal from the radio is intermittent! Any ideas? Thanks in advance
@marksavage
@marksavage 4 жыл бұрын
hi bud I did have but sold the bike , its just a game of playing with it to tune and leave it lol, as for the volume it sounds like to too much for it and I couldn't really hear it at high speed any way the trophy I had that had a radio ( video on here) was so much better and the volume went up and down with the speed of the bike so it wasn't loud once you stopped at lights lol but all in nice to have plus I had a open face helmet which made it clear to listen too on both bikes I went al the way to isle of white on my trophy with the radio on and I have to say it passed the miles

Bud, I have a dilemma: GTR14, FJR13 or the ST13? Something says going for the Pan for a commuter and long touring journey I have planned would be safe bet? Anything to look out for in your opinion pal? Dave
@marksavage
@marksavage 5 жыл бұрын
as you know ive had all 3 and many more like trophy 1200gs etc as for your 3 all good bikes frj1300 has no toys and rides well but a little more sporty , gtr1400 is a big girl with a few toys and again ride well but agree with your choice its the pan but maybe test ride all 3 before making your mind up or go see them maybe worth having a look at the trophy video on my channel it was a great bike
