I really like the PR4 tires. Came with mine. They have really stood out on the handling of the bike. Put on a set of Shinko 016’s? Bad bad!! The heat on the bike is pretty bad. Plus the side fairing pockets can cook anything in them. The hiway pegs are a life saver!! I love the bike, just hot, even if I take the windshield off.

Thanks man, yeah I had a Corbin that came with my '91 k75 bmw and it was amazingly comfortable. Since then I've endured other stock seats including my r1200gs 2005, but nothing came close, so guys out there... PAY for one it is INVALUABLE in the difference it makes with your experience. The mirror config was so great on my k75 it's nice to see they have that config on this bike. That bike was very reliable, but I'm sure the Honda will be excellent. Just teeter tottering on either one of these or Older Goldwing. All depends on prices I find with my little budgie. Nice bikes for 2 up is what I'm after and of course long haul. Give it to God :)

Thanks for your walk around. I am currently working on getting a 2006 st1300. I will have one purchased soon. It has 99,000 miles on it. Looks as though previous owners have been real kind to it. It will be a big step up for me as I currently own a Pacific Coast 800. I plan on taking it easy to get accustomed to so much weight. Any pointers about riding one I would certainly be thankful.

It’s refreshing to hear from a motorcyclist instead of a biker. I’m considering and 05 1300 that’s for sale near me. What’s it like to adjust the valves or are they hydraulic? How is the heat coming off of the engine/radiator on a warm day. I hear that you could actually cook a turkey if you put it on your lap and drive for 400 miles. You are right about BMWs being pricey. $850 to change the clutch fluid & the brake fluid, which must be done every two years, because my BMW K 1200 LT had electric, horrible no feel brakes.. I passed on having my local BMW dealer do the brake fluid change, and I bought the “special tools”, and learned how to do it myself. It’s no big deal, but that and a few other things I’ll never buy another BMW..They are not as easy to own or as advanced as the Japanese machines. I had to find that out for myself I had one of those flashing back off tail lights that flash when you hit the brakes. I was waiting my turn at the stop sign on my commute to work. I got smashed into from behind, I was off work for nine months. I heard the guy that smashed into me telling the policeman while I was laying on the ground just coming too, he said to the cop, I saw his tail light flashing and it seemed like he was starting to pull out.. I did some research on this.. A similar thing that happened to me happened to the Montana State police. They had devices on their cars that made their headlights appear to be flashing from high to low beam constantly as they drove down the street. It turns out, they in Montana, had the highest incidence of head on collisions of all police forces in the country. The reason they blamed this scenario on is called target fixation.. they say when someone approaching you from the opposite direction sees something they don’t quite know what it is, they tend to stare at it until they figure it out, and many times, you tend to steer in the direction you are looking. And I find this to be true. I’ve taught a few people how to ride on street, road racing tracks, and dirt riding. One of the things I would always drill into their heads was, don’t look where you don’t want to go... Have you have or had any deer collisions? I have had two deer impacts while I was riding my motorcycles. One at 70 miles an hour on my BMW K 1200 LT .. The deer wrapped around the faring, his leg whipped my calf, $5500 damage to the bike, but ithe bike never moved. I coasted to a stop on the side of the road, and then I got scared. My second deer impact was at 7 o’clock in the morning on my way to work at 25 miles an hour. Same thing. He tried to jump over my front wheel from left to right. He took off my fender, and half the fairing on my Honda Pacific coast. I didn’t go down that time either, but I find myself scanning for wildlife more than watching the road anymore, And I absolutely do not ride at night anymore. I used to love to go out after 9 o’clock at night in the summer when the sun was gone, I’d have the roads to myself north of Pittsburgh up towards Erie & New York. I would see the deer, so I figured they could see me. I put deer whistles on every vehicle I own, and a mailman that went from post office to post office with bulk packaging saw the whistles on my bike one day. He said those things don’t work. He said he has the record, 16 deer collisions driving between Pittsburgh and State College Pennsylvania at night. He said he tried every device on the market, and nothing prevented those collisions.. Anyway, it was a pleasure to watch your video, and to hear from a motorcyclist what it’s like to own an ST 1300 thanks

thanks bud, i never had a deer impact, dog one time tho... The valves they say aren't hard to check, more complex to actually change.. hate to admit i've never checked mine. turned over 98k this morning, still running like a sewing machine. You can pick these bikes up all day, for under 5k, and i found one for about 6k up north, had the heli bars already and a top box, bout 6k miles... sold before i could get to it... so it's a great bike, can't go wrong.. heat can be dealt with... best thing is just not squeeze the tank, let the air come in between your legs and the tank... stop lights u know your sitting on a oven. feels great on cold days tho... thanks for watching... i have pretty much given up on this channel... but i still F.R.E.D.

besides the two deer in packs while riding my motorcycles, I did have a glancing impact with a dog about the size of an Irish setter.. my riding buddy and I had swapped bikes in West Virginia along route 50 in the mountains. My buddy was riding my 79 Moto Guzzi sp1000. And I was riding his 82 Honda CBX.. sparsely populated area, but a dog came running out from the right that a 45° angle after my buddy. The dog then spotted me and changed direction at the last second, I clipped him and sent him break dancing off the road.. The wide see the X engine just barely clipped him..When he was done doing somersaults, he got up and appeared to run home. A little wiser

i have the bike as well and its beast added a luggae shelf below my numberplate. novsight led headlights are a good mod as are his handlebars. my old 2003 used to cook me my new 2008 barely get hot on the tank but under the seat i installed thermal reflecter like bubble wrap. have also seen someone build a nut cooler. vacum hose with a shop vac end cable tied to the crash bar cover with the hose end in your lap. on days around 24 degres i feel heat coming off the engine on long rides. baker wings are ugly but can solve this. i also dont check my valve clearances either. i have a video st1300 mods including luggage shelf on yt. the st1300 has bigger storage than any bike i have found but im still adding more for camping 2 up. great in town but on motorways its awesome thanks to the electric screen. have a super short one for the summer

There is one thing you failed to mention. The Corbin seat. I had to buy one when I had my 2007 VRF800. Still had some crotch pain, but not as bad as stock.

Nice video... I want one of these... In about 28 hours time, I set off, on a 1750+ km ride to Cape Reinga in the Far North of New Zealand... My bike is a CBR1000F and is 22 years old. An ST1300 is a Grown Up's bike and would be like riding a Cruise Missile.

its a great bike i recently did some mad mods from a luggage shelf below the number plate to moving the ecu and abs around giving you much deeper tail storage. made a yt vid called st1300 mods including luggage shelf. im looking for the helibar horizon used and will probably build a set of highway pegs that mount further forward in a couple of days time. For being seen i recommend switchbacks they make the bike look huge and for pure power novsight led bulbs blow glass out the water. next mod is mounting a tool tube in the pillion seat just need a 3 inch tube as the 4 inch i bought is way too big. im copying sargent for the tube idea

I love those handlebars! I didn't even know something like that was available. I've turned away from lots of otherwise great motorcycles because of the handlebars not fitting me. Some look good, but if they don't feel good, what's the point? Function over fashion for me every time.

If you ride a ST1300 you should seriously look at the Gen2 Helibar riser, it retains the stock bars and cables/hoses, moves the grips up 2" and back 2.5". Mine has the ram mount in the centre for any tech. The GPS I smack on the instrument panel with Velcro :-)

Thanks for the video! Great job explaining everything. I just bought a 2010 ST1300 and getting ready to accessorize it. Wondering how you mounted the two GPS where you did. I kept trying to see the bracket through the windshield, but never quite got to see how you did it. I like how you extended the handlebars. I probably won't do that just yet, which makes mounting to them fairly limited. I love the bike so far. I've only had it a month!

I just sold my Red 2005 Honda ST1300, with 68,500mi, that I bought new. Back when I bought it, I installed the MCCruise cruise controller that worked perfectly for 13 years and will probably last as long as the bike. Mods to consider. Remove the highway blades and attach metal bracket to the tip covers so you can put your legs straight. forward. get the very short tinted screen from ebay. up full it is just below your eyes on lowest you get a full chest blast on hot days the spot lights look like komy lights from all2buyer change the indicator lenses to clear and remove the foam and may put some few washers ton the screws. when you indicate it will glow around the mirror. i love the tennis ball tube im stealing that. nice setup. what horn do you have?

How did you mount the lights under the mirrors? I have an '03 and since MCL is out of business, I'm having trouble figuring out a good morning solution that doesn't require booking then to the mirror housing. Love your setup! what a mess of tech . I would hate all that garbage to worry with on the dash and bars. I'm a long distance rider but a simple purist. Done several certified IBA rides (Victory Vision) my wife has even done a SS1000 as a passenger. The hardest ride I ever loved was the BB 1500 Gold (over 1,500 miles in less than 24 hours). Nice bike and nice bars though. THe bars remind me of the bars on the Motus.

G'day. Great video and very informative, not much you didn't cover! I have a 2010 St1300a (abs standard) black with gold fleck paintwork and love the bike and have had NO trouble since new I tend to do long distance touring as well but I just have the basic stuff when doing the rides with a mate who has an old ST1100. I have done all States in Australia on this bike and it has just gotten better with age. Pity Honda don't make 'em anymore!! I was wondering how you mounted the GPS unit/s on the dash, they look pretty solid and a neat fit. Did you use RAM mounts or a custom support bracket? Just interested is all, keen to do something similar. If you have 5 minutes to spare & share the info it would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the great work, regards from The Land Down Under! if i remember correctly, the top box was abou $325, give or take. i dont remember where i got it. the hwy blades are motorcycle larry pegs specific for the st1300 :-)

Jimo368 remove the inner covers(2) behind the front wheel That puts a lot more air over the engine and makes a lot of difference. Have had mine off for 2 years, no issues, love the bike now.

He left out that is is due to an extensive hip surgery and nerve damage in the left leg after a car accident. The love for riding is there just not physically able to now but hoping physical therapy will correct all that it needs to so that I can ride again! To answer your question +0030046: It is a tad cramped but not too bad; the Corbin helps with comfort as well as the top box behind me. I find it harder with the side boxes and peg placement to stretch my legs out as needed to help circulation.

@@mistydunning3123 hopefully this reaches you better. if you go with the honda topbox its much bigger and build the luggage shelf i made and you dont need the panniers. you can probably lower the pillion pegs or when he uses the highway blades stretch out to his just warn him first. there should be a way to mod the bike to give you more leg room. as the rider i sometimes stand up but not had a pillion try that yet. would help if he took the rear crash bars off and maybe mounted a much lower peg on a plate for you

The ST1300 has a 7.7 gallon tank. At 40 mpg, you're approaching 300 miles range.

Ken Parmenter not a fan of my cb setup being on the bars, but i really like the gps on the dash along with my phone... most everything else is optional if u need to charge something, i dont do that often enuff for it to be an issue, not being able to would be more an issue...
