Honda RVF750R RC45 Laps With Keanu Reeves And Jake Zemke NO MUSIC

At the recent #ArchRides Laguna Seca track day, Honda let us pilot one of its immaculate and legendary superbikes, a 1994 RVF750R RC45.
The RC45-the successor to the VFR750R RC30 that didn’t have fuel injection-was the street version homologation special, and one of only 50 that were brought into the US at the time. Supposedly fewer than 50 RC45s remain intact.
Keanu Reeves of Arch Motorcycle Company and ex-Honda factory racer Jake Zemke both had the chance to ride the RC45, as did I, and we compared notes. Although in standard street form the bike didn’t have the enormous horsepower of the World Superbike racebike (reputedly around 190 horsepower by 1999!), it did give an insight into the legendary balance and rail-like handling of the superbike. It went precisely where I pointed it and felt easy and intuitive to ride.
Perhaps the biggest and most noticeable difference to a modern machine is the old school riding position that is much more upright yet “seated in” than modern motorcycles where you feel a lot more perched on top. Perhaps that helped make the RC45 so easy to ride.

After the first corner, I knew instantly this was Laguna Seca. Mad props, for taking that corkscrew on a race bike. That in and of itself is a major feat of courage. That corner is way steeper and scarier in person than it looks in the video and it wouldn't have taken much to flip the bike at the bottom.

Growing up with Keanu movies since I was a kid, it's nice when you see an actor that's actually WORTH being admired. I had the 400cc version... still the best bike I ever rode, nothing has come close to as enjoyable to ride and I've ridden just about every modern bike on the market as I used to be a motorcycle salemen... hopeful the new Ducati V4 can deliver otherwise I'll be buying a few old 400cc bikes again.

JAY i ride with a guy who has that v400 as a grey market import. Sounds great and he loves it. We consistently ride some nice twisty backroads and he is difficult to keep up with. He knows the roads and rides that thing pinned. I always wanted one but they are just too much money for such an older bike. For 10k I would rather put it down towards a more modern bike. But again great bike always keep an eye for one with a good deal or an aprilia rs250 converted to a road bike.

I had the same NC30 in Taiwan for 10 yrs... I fitted a Tyga Maggot GP pipe and tyga rearsets....had to gear lower for the tight mountains....but boy....what a blast and could keep up and pass liter bikes in the mountains....revving to 15,000 rpm

I will say back in 2007 I was getting gas in a tiny town in Nephi Utah on my Ducati 999R and up pulled 4 ducatis and the first Ducati Streetfighter I'd ever seen in person I walked up to it and all 4 riders were in full 1 piece leathers, with packs , tank bags and tail bags, dirty bikes and leathers looked like they'd done 10,000 miles, and it was July bytheway, 101 degrees in utah. The rider of the streetfighter took his helmet off and it was Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds, total bad ass, they were riding from the east coast to Laguna Seca for a Ducati event , looked like they'd been to hell and back but have always looked at him not in the typical Hollywood light, any actor who chose to do that verses shipping the bike there and getting In Leathers pretending to have done it is a huge legit in my book. Sure people saw him pull up thinking he shipped it but I'm a witness he rode at least from a ways from utah looking as beat up and dirty as they all were. Soenthing to be said about a A list actor that rides bikes really hard and dedicatedly , reeves, Reynolds, cruise , a few of the legits it there! Also notable, ryan Reynolds was a total cool guy to talk to, u wouldn't have even known he was a huge actor, seriously cool guy who asked me about my 999R , sat on it, fired it up and jsut talked bikes for 15 minutes and went In for a meal at a tiny cafe, my sister was a waitress there and LOVED him so was huge for her and he tipped her $100. Jsut a freaking cool guy! I'm sure reeves is the same from all I've seen on the web. As an 2017 Yamaha FZ10 (naked R1) owner I love seeing legit Hollywood riders out there with a passion for bikes, makes me feel better about spending money on their movies . 😉👍

I would have liked to be able to hear the engine clearly but GoPro's have wind noise issues. I started to put a small recorder behind my body on the motorcycle and that helped a lot. Racing windshields throw more wind to the side than the Honda stock windshield. (Of course, Honda would not be inclined to add after-market parts on an original.)

Hate to be a buzzkill cause this is one of my favorite bikes. This bike never made anywhere near 190hp not even at the crank. Most powerfull version was the euro version that made 118hp. Not to far off from gsxr 750 which is the same displacement by 2000 they were making 123 hp. Now this bike is superior in every way to a gsxr 750 its lighter handles more precise brakes better has better suspension. It truly was a bike you bought to take to the track and race. But even with some tuning you arent bringing this thing to 190hp without huge engine modifications. 190hp is what modern 1000s 20 years later are putting down.

So im willing to admit when im wrong i found out in 1999 in full race form it made 190 probably at the crank. I bet that version cost over 100k since it was a HRC race bike. Most ones we find on the street will be the race replica again making maybe 120hp. Again this is a 750cc made in the 90s.

I met Jake Zemke several times back in 04-05 in while working for Shoei ( his glory days of AMA Racing). He hand Eric Bostrom were Shoei's top U.S Riders at the time. Two of the nicest fellows you would want to meet anywhere and both clearly, keenly aware of just how lucky they were to be where they were, doing what they were doing.

I met this Jake Zemke in Omaha, NE years ago at the Ducati dealership for the Panigale unvealing. He was a super cool guy.
