These bikes are so amazing that I just purchased a 2006 model with 1,700 miles on the odometer and she is, and looks brand new !

And excellent and interesting non-review...but it actually was! Your initial impressions are worthwhile and even with the go pro issues the voiceover told us your thoughts, and that's what it's all about. Lovely area to ride, too. As a Yank, i love seeing the English tiwns and countrysides, so different that over here. Cheers mate!

The 1100 and 1300 have a cable tie on the mirror case that stop them falling off if you knock them against something, the casing is designed to unclip on firm contact but not fall off bike. .. just clip back into place. And not expensive to replace at this age if you shop around

Was on a retailers bike rally the other day, of about 50 rides there were 4x St1300, no other bike model had more than two.

I’ve had an ST1300 04 for just under a year, if they haven’t been maintained correctly there’s a couple of little things that will need doing / replacing…. Brake fluid being one! If it’s not been regularly changed then the SMC can play up causing binding on the rear wheel (check to see if rear spins by hand when bike is on centre stand) any binding and it’s likely the SMC assembly needs to be replaced… do not use repair kit as it may not fix, replace the whole SMC. The joys of a dual braking system! Other little things, potentially the thermostat sticks…. Will show itself on a cold morning! Bike should run at 3 bars on thermostat regardless of temp, anything less is a faulty thermostat! Greetings from a fellow South Wales inhabitant! 😂 Hence why I know about the thermostat workings on cold days! 😂 Edit: Just realised where you are as soon as you got near dual carriageway!

Cheers, I think on this particular bike this next big job will be a suspension rebuild, it felt a bit tiered when I last rode it. Thanks for the tips on the other bits and bobs to.

Yes, the front forks have no adjustability - so may need a refresh. Also the rear pre-load adjuster can become non functional for most of the turns/clicks so doesn’t adjust as it should, however that is fixable with some fork oil a syringe and some tools - no need to remove shock to try that it can be done in situ. Also highly recommend the st-owners forum for general advice and how to’s if you are going to DIY - used a few myself so far! Cheers

I've had an ST1300 for years. Great fuel economy, fast, quiet, handles well (despite the weight), great range & weather protection. Only drawback, puts out a lot of heat when stuck in traffic.

Fantastic bikes, have had a 'few' Modern bikes are fantastic but dont be fooled, an St1300 or even an ancient 1100 are still extremely capable bikes, capable of serious journeys in comfort. I still keep a nice 1100 used occasionally, guess why ..... ? .... 😉

Puig screen offers more wind protection around your hands,as it has wider lower area. Servicing is every 16k miles for the valves. Allow an hour just to get the fairings off . Enjoy!

I found a cheapest ST selling for 7000usd (average used price in my country is around 1000 usd converted price). A 2003 with 121k mileage on it. ST is known for a bulletproof engine and I wonder if it can survive for another 80k before major engine top build. What maintenance on the engine should be done first before enjoying the full potential of the ST and should I be worry about the reported wobble? My highway speed with Yamaha Royal star is always above 160kmh and Im planning to do more with the ST. Fall in love with the looks of it and the police and firefighter here still using it and they still even use the cbx750.

They're a great bike, I wouldn't worry too much about the wobble thing, from what I can work out a lot of that issue was on police bikes that had a lot of gear loaded on the back which made them unstable. So perhaps bare how much luggage you put on. I would highly recommend checking the valve clearance can make a difference if properly adjusted. Fork seals should be checked as well as brakes.

Hello friend. How did you find her weight wise? I'm looking for my first bike after nearly 30yrs. Im thinking of this or a lighter honda nt700 tourer. Any advice would be appreciated. Happy biking.

A very divisive topic this. Personally I would recommend a lower cc and lighter bike, for 2 or 3 months just to get your hand back in. Builds confidence and a lot more forgiving. Thanks for your query. Last bit of advice, don't listen to salesmen, they're priority is to sell you a bike, not necessarily the right one for you.
