yup tank empty makes it much easier, and I left the 2 front screws in the air filter housing in place, Loosen them, took out the rest and then pulled the housing. I tried to pull them out with magnetic screwdriver, however I guess the magnet was not strong enough as they seemed like they were going to come off, so I just unscrewed and pulled the housing off with the screws in the housing, much easier.

Great video, a little helper is replace the air filter with the gas tank fairly low on fuel, with over 6 gallons of fuel when filled it is quite heavy to move around.

I just bought my 4.5th ST1300 ('03) and yet to get it home soon. I had had 2 '03 and 1 '06 before. I had re-purchased my 2nd '03 from the buyer after 2 years! My family suspects major brain damage... Anyway, after trying 'lighter' sport-touring motorcycles, such as, ST2, FJ-09, and a not-so-light GL1800, I decided to return to my trusted village and the faithful donkey again.

One suggestion, pick up a couple of the air cover screws. If you drop one, trying to get it out of the abyss, can be a real PIA! ;)

I haven't changed the coolant but I did the plugs. Its pretty straight forward really.

The two front screws can be left in position and when loosened will lift in and out easily with the top cover. Don’t try to fish them out just lift the cover out level the screws will stay in there bays and when you reinstall the cover, they will carefully drop right back into the holes they came out… No use to take the chance fishing or dropping them…

I was just told a few days ago that the valves are manually adjusted. I had no idea! I'm selling it so I won't be going down that path.

It's a Honda. No need to check the valve unless youve been bouncing it off the rev limiter for years

I replaced the element but may have done it twice just for the video and used the new filter. I really can't recall. They are expensive but should last a Long Time.

It is a Corbin. I've always loved the way they feel. Firm but comfortable.

Yes that Corbin looks much more comfortable than the one on my ST. I have a PA model with the driver only seat. I can only ride the bike and hour or so before I need to get off of it due to seat discomfort. How long would you say you could ride with that seat comfortably? It looks like it would be a great improvement for my bike but wanted some feedback before deciding on which replacement seat to chose.

I guess anything is possible but i seriously doubt you will drop bolts into the engine while changing the air filter. Never happened to me.

By comparison, Honda CB1100 - remove side cover by removing ONE Allen bolt. Remove air box cover by removing 3 Phillips screws. Replace filter. What were those engineers thinking? Good video though!

Like most everything in life, it depends. If you are riding in dusty conditions, you should change it more often. The owners manual says to Replace the air filter every 12,000 miles!

In another popular video I watched the second owner of an ST1300 lift the front of the tank too high ! ..You guessed it , the bottom hose (between the 2 tanks) split. It waited for the most remote location to occur , & it's a bastard size like a radiator bypass hose on an old V8. Go buy a spare one from Honda & save it for a rainy day! Good video ,well planned out..

I’ve had two ST1300s and this isn’t so terribly hard. I had to chg to a Goldwing in 2016 because the ST1300 was too tall in the saddle and too too heavy for my 73 year old legs. I’ve never changed the air filter on the Goldwing.

Do NOT use a Phillips screwdriver on the ST. Japanese vehicles use *JIS* screws and that's what's needed ESPECIALLY for small screws that are tight.

@@JustPlainCommonSense Sorry to hear that. Amazon has JIS for decent prices as does McMaster-Carr. They aren't priced like Harbor Freight disposables (though I find good deals there from time to time). Here's a pic of a JIS screwdriver held in place by the screw. Don't use Philips screwdrivers on japanese bikes. They are JIS fitment. Japanese industry standard. Should be readily available from good stockists. Great info on the tank fittings.
