I will be adjusting my chain for the first time soon. It’s really loose. I had it adjusted once already by a motorcycle tech. I have almost 6k on it. It’s a 2023 SuperCub. I bought the service manual but it doesn’t have ANYTHING about adjusting the chain. Thanks for having this video. I may have questions after my attempt this weekend.

For future reference, you should tighten both chain adjusting nuts, by the same amount, incrementally. By that, I mean; turn one adjuster, one nut face (i.e. one sixth of a turn), then turn the other one the same amount, then check the slack. Continue moving each adjuster by the same amount until the chain tension is correct. Then it is important to torque the spindle to 59Nm (44 lbf-ft) BEFORE tightening the adjuster nuts. Also, check the chain slack again after tightening the spindle, to ensure nothing has moved.

Nice video. A motion pro slack adjuster tool would make it quicker to check.

12.6.21 Santa Cruz Capitola Soquel Board Walk Scotts Valley. Hwy 17 Merlin, did you sight down the sprocket to the counter shaft to see if the sprocket looked straight and not pointing to the left or right? Could use a better chain lube. Now you are ready to go out in traffic and cut some more people off.

You should notify the publisher of the manual of that mistake. That could end badly for someone. Nice tutorial.

Isn't it possible to check the chain slack simply by looking at the position of the bottom of the chain in relation to the bottom of the chain hole. If the top of the ' bottom' of the chain is in line with the bottom of the hole then the chain slack is OK? If not then I'd make a wooden gauge from a stick which could have the 30 mm marked at two points and the bottom mark lined up with the bottom of the chain, and the end of the stick shimmed from the floor as necessary. It just seems to me that you're relying too much on the steadiness of your left hand when holding the caliper 😊. Just a suggestion. Thank you fir your very useful information and demonstration

Yes you can use the hole, that's what is there for to check the slack. If you need to adjust or lube the chain you'll have to remove the covers though.

Does adjusting the chain tension affect the rear brake adjustment
@hadesomegamoto763911 ай бұрын
Hmm you know what I never thought out that now that you mention it. I would think it does affect the rear brake adjustment but not that much. I would definitely check and see if the wheel spins smoothly after adjusting.

Is there a way to move the rear brake lever up? I have to really press my foot down to get stopping power.
@hadesomegamoto76392 жыл бұрын
I don't think there is a way. If you wanted to move it up a little you could shave the little bumper or take it off. I really don't like the rear brake on the super cub I wish there is a left hand rear brake kit for it. I am constantly scraping the lever when I lean the bike a lot into right turns. Another thing you can do is adjust the rear drum brake so it is more sensitive, like to the point where it is barely not touching the drum. Also another thing you can try is to put a thicker pedal on the lever.

When you loosen the axle bolts, do you only have to loosen one side?
@hadesomegamoto76392 жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter but you should loosen the nut first.

Chain ruler? I think you are talking about the caliper? This is one of the caliper I use: amzn.to/3z74nBq
