@@QuasiMotard I couldn't find the part numbers either from the European exploded views. But in an eBay listing from Thailand, the numbers were visible on the parts. With these part numbers I was able to order the parts at a local dealer, however he didn't know either what parts the numbers belong to, because European/American Honda removes the part numbers from the exploded views for some reason - or doesn't even indicate them in the first place but he can order these whitin 3 days from Honda Belgian warehouse.

Wonderful video! Your attention to detail (spring orientation, etc.) is fantastic. I've been working on motorcycles for over 55 years. Probably older than your Dad. Please allow me to throw out a couple of suggestions. First, think about purchasing/using a spring puller anytime you're working with a spring. Makes a somewhat difficult job sooooo easy. Literally took me 5 seconds to hook the spring on mine. Second, and much more important, please think about wearing safety glasses anytime you're working with springs. It's soooo easy to lose an eye when you're working with springs, even when working on a relatively innocent project like this. Maybe we'll cross paths at COTA during a MotoGP race one day, if we can ever beat this COVID-19 mess. Once again, thanks for the great job and keep up the good work!

Thx for the feedback! You are correct on the spring pliers and safety glasses... it's definitely better to have the right tool for the job and to keep safety first! I do have several sets of spring pliers, but I didn't have them handy while I was filming... didn't want to break continuity (or go into my boiling-hot garage to dig them out) 😉. COTA's event schedule seems to be shaping up again for October-November, so I'm planning to be there! I already pre-purchased all of my event tickets for the 2020 season back in 11/2019, so hopefully at least one of this season's events will happen. F1 is slated for late October, and MotoGP has been rescheduled for sometime in November... we'll see! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

The best way to put a spring on, is the push coins between the spring coils, till the springs long enough to slip on. Then simply pull the coins out with pliers.

My previous issues were complete user/installer error. And the thing is, I can't even GUESS what I did wrong. (there was no alcohol...but I may have been tired and frustrated & it was getting dark.) I really like how this new side stand doesn't require the new footpeg bar.

Yeah, it's a addiction (or affliction 🤣)... I never can leave my bikes alone for very long. I always accessorize and modify them to my commuting and riding needs. I try to install only functional or safety upgrades where possible... very few of my changes are purely cosmetic in nature. You're correct on the Honda's build quality... these machines are really a treat to own and maintain. It's hard to improve upon it very much... after all, they've been building these for over 60 years now! The only things that NEEDED replaced/upgraded on the Super Cub were the mirrors... those things were awful. I am planning to do my 1000-mile review soon (well... probably 2000-mile by the time I get to it)... that review will list the things that I have observed about the Super Cub and that one single complaint. Other than the mirrors, this machine is FANTASTIC! 👍😉 --QM

I don't have any links handy that I can forward to you, but you can find the entire side stand kits on eBay. Hello and thanks for the side stand vid! Do you know what would be the widest/largest tire ( both front and rear) that will fit on the cub? I plan on removing the front fender if that helps get a wider tire on. I've seen several customized cubs with some pretty wide tires and just didn't know if they are widening the swing and other modifications to get them to work. I plan using the stock wheels unless you know where you can get a wider wheel too. thanks for your help.
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! The SC's wheels are very narrow, so it's difficult to get meatier rubber in there. I've heard that some owners have increased the front to a 80/90-17 (same as the OEM rear tire) with no modifications or cleaarance issues. The rear can go wider, but the brake arm needs to be modified (bent to give extra clearance) for anything wider than a 100/80-17. There is plenty of room within the swingarm, so that shouldn't be an issue. However, many owners have reported that mismatched tire sizes and plus-size sprockets can interfere with the ABS system and cause an error condition. I think as long as you don't try any gearing "taller" than 15/36T, and you're increasing both tire diameters proportionately to each other, then you should be fine. I'm still running the factory tire sizes on my Cub, but I'll probably upsize them at the next change interval. I've been running a Kitaco 15T front sprocket on my Cub for over 15K miles, and I've never had an ABS malfunction or warning. If you want to see some serious Cub abuse, check out my Scooter Cannonball Run series (playlist here: kzbin.info/aero/PLLXxDh3JumLnSK37lF4AcrF28frAIfLfA ). We rode our little 125's nearly 10K miles around the USA! That was sitting at wide-open throttle for 12-14 hours/day while pulling 80-lb trailers behind them. These are amazing little machines! 😉👍 --QM

@QuasiMotard 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the part number! I researched that piece several months ago, but it seems that our local dealers in the USA can't get that part from Honda. I was able to find it in a few overseas parts outlets. However, I'm not sure if the US-spec Cubs have the wiring harness connection for that side stand switch... I didn't see if anywhere on my bike, and it wasn't on the wiring diagram in the service manual. If we don't have the harness connection, then more hacking would be needed to tie the switch into the kill switch line. Hmm... maybe I need to dig further. 👍 --QM

perfect info in description! one minor question, what was the factory front sprocket size and how the acceleration and top speed affected by the 15T front changing? (if the factory sprocket not 15T)
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 5 жыл бұрын
Thx for the feedback! The original front sprocket is a 14T. The acceleration didn't seem to be affected too much because the lower 3 gears can pull longer (higher shift points). However, 4th gear definitely suffers and is more of an "overdrive" now, and there isn't enough engine power up top to break through 60 mph. So far,I have ridden about 150-200 miles with the 15T. The motor is definitely more relaxed, and I like the longer pulls in the low gears. The speedometer has a deviation of -2 mph now (vs +2 mph before). I haven't decided whether I will revert to the 14T... time will tell. 👍 --QM

@@QuasiMotard thx, I before to have a Super Cub , collecting infos how to make it better even it is not for tuning, rather stylish, but! :) Meanwhile I checked your sprocket changing video, and yep some 2-3 mph plus and more free engine rev and run, so very depends on. I saw Kitaco makes speedo adjusment , it could be a smaller bankrupt probably :D Also so Kitaco ECU, Kitaco drive, and Kitac exhaust, maybe some of them could work even better the 15T sprocket, but it's also a lottery winner amount :)

It beggars belief that Honda couldn't have included a sidestand... But I guess at about 130 dollars a pop it's a nice little earner. Pretty sure a profession welder could modify the original footrest bar to accept the sidestand leg. Mind you his labour cost would negate the savings....

Those are the Kijima Bag Supports that I ordered from Webike: japan.webike.net/products/23969200.html . I have a separate video that I plan to post for that project, but my intended panniers didn't really fit well with these supports (bags are longer than the supports, so they don't secure well to the rails). However, they do provide a handy tie-down for ROK Straps and bungee nets, as I found out today... I tossed my backpack and a hammock kit on top of the tiny parcel rack, stretched a bungee net over everything, and secured the plastic bungee hooks to the Kijima supports. It worked very well! I'm searching for another set of retro panniers that will fit with my current rack arrangement... I'll find a good solution eventually. 👍 --QM

Why side stand over center stand? Genuinely curious. I always preferred to use the center stand feeling it more stable. Always worry about people bumping into the bike or kicking the side stand or something.
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard Жыл бұрын
Just ease of use, really. It's bio-mechanically simpler to dismount the bike when using the side stand because the bike is leaned over to the left side, and the seat height is lowered when tilted. You don't need to worry about steadying the bike while you step off (over) it, so it's more secure. I typically leave it on the side stand for quick stops, but I'll raise it onto the center stand for longer parking or to save space in the garage. One additional caveat is that the Cub's center stand is quite narrow, so it can still tip over when perched on soft uneven ground (e.g., gravel or muddy grass). In those circumstances, the side stand is actually more stable due to the three spread out contact points. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

I noticed that right after posting my video. I'm sure they are selling a bunch of these side stand kits... the Super Cub really should have that installed as a factory default. I will dig around to see if I can source those parts from other online retailers. The individual parts will certainly be less expensive than the Steady Garage kit, but there is the overseas shipping costs and time factor to consider... that's probably why they can ask $165 for the kit! --QM

Hello again Quasi, Good day to you my friend, I now have my super cub and I'm loving it, I would like to ask a favor of you if you don't mind, I too would like to put a side stand on my bike but I am definitely not prepared to shell out £125, Here me out, I think the bike should have come with the side stand fitted as standard, and I notice on some of the Indian made Hondas watching videos posted there, they are fitted as standard in that country, I'm not being a cheap scape Quasi but the only difference between the 2 foot step bars, standard and new foot bars is the piece of welded metal that holds the side stand on, now I've been in touch with my friend who is a welder who says he will make the metal plate and shape it for me and charge me nothing to do it . So would you mind replying to my request and send me the measurements thickness and diameter of the little metal plate so I can go ahead and have it made, I'm sure it's a square plate before shaping? The stand itself retails for roughly £10, that's for stand, spring, and bolt included, that a huge saving for me, and to be honest I could do with saving a few quid with this current Covid Pandemic I hope you Don't mind me asking Quasi. Hoping you will get back to me on this. Thank you. Don .

I will try to take some pictures and measurements for you tonight or tomorrow. The OEM footpeg stand/bracket for the US/UK models doesn't have the mounting bracket for the side stand mount... you can see where it was omitted on the assembly line. The Asian-market footpeg bracket that I purchased has the plate/bracket as seen in this video, so I'm sure that it would be possible to bodge something together out of plate steel. The pivot shaft might be a little tricky, but some round stock cut to the correct length and then lathed or threaded on the end should work for the side stand attachment. It will certainly require a bit of sweat and effort, so I guess it just depends on how much your/his time is worth. 😉 I will reply back to this thread with some basic info on the dimensions. If you want pictures and other details, then drop me an email at quasimotard@gmail.com so I can reply back with the picture attachments. Cheers! 👍 --QM

@@QuasiMotard Thanks for getting back to me Quasi (Sorry I don't know your name?) I have plenty of photo's of the steel plate, and the position of the fixing I'm just unsure of the Thickness of the steel, and the size,( length x width?) like I mentioned earlier It looks like a square piece of steel with the shape formed by cutter or grinder, My friend is a steel fabricator and welder, and thinks it's not that complicated to make the plate itself, but asked me to try and get the measurement of the plate and he will' sort it out for me no probs. , I've, actually purchased the Leg spring, and Nut/bolt on eBay tonight for £10.70. while I would say that's a good buy, lol When watching you fitting your stand on your bike I noticed the cut out on the foot bar where the plate would normally be welded to, this is what I was having a gripe about? the only difference between the 2 bars is the metal plate, Why pay out £125 when I can make the adjustment myself, some of the prices they are charging for bike parts are a rip off, Don't you agree? Anyway as soon as I have the dimensions I can crack on and get it made, I will also take some pictures and get them to you to see the end result.

Correct! I was doing two projects at the same time, so that's why I left the descriptions in the beginning of the video to avoid confusion. The only things that you need to remove are the footpeg rubbers and trim rings, and then remove the 4 lower bolts for the step/bar itself. Installation is the reverse of that... super simple. Question for ya Quasi, what are those two tubes that are hanging from under the bike by the stand?
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 3 жыл бұрын
Those two tubes are the fuel tray drain hose (overflow drain) and the evap canister drain hose. They never seem to leak anything on the garage floor, so I assume that the evap canister hose drips itself dry while in motion. However, either the evap drain hose or the crankcase breather hose on my new Rebel 1100 does tend to leak a little bit if I leave the bike sitting out in the sun. I've noticed a slight vapor trail and slow drips of fuel/oil mixture coming from that line a few times... leaves small spots on my driveway. No such bad manners from the little Cub, though! 👍 --QM

Love your videos. Question about the side stand. I have a few cubs including a 1972 c70 with a side stand. I once ruined the clutch on it by leaving it running on whilst on the side stand! Oil must have leant to the side and starved the right side.Whats your experience or feedback
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 3 жыл бұрын
That's a good question! I've heard that the older C70's and C90's had problems with the crankshaft end bearings due to oil starvation (e.g. lean angle or extended high-RPM operation). I owned a Trail 90 (CT90) and Trail 110 (CT110) back in the 80's that had the same exact motors. I abused those bikes with all kinds of torture, but I never experienced any oiling issues or clutch failures. The motor in the C125 is a completely new mill that is based on the Grom (MSX-125), so I believe that Honda has remedied some of those old issues. However, I don't leave my bike running on the side stand for any length of time for many reasons. Oil starvation is one possibility, but the biggest concern is that we don't have the ignition interlock (kill line) for the side stand here. If the bike is running and in gear while on the side stand, then there is a chance that it could roll forward and topple onto its side. It's not a likely issue, but still a possible outcome (like if/when my toddler decides to rev the motor in the driveway... oops!). Cheers! 👍 --QM

You can purchase the service manual direct from Helm Inc at this link: www.helminc.com/helm/product2.asp?Make=AHC&Model=C125&Year=2019&Category=1&class%5F2=AHC&mk=Honda+Motorcycle&yr=2019&md=C125A&dt=Shop%2FService+Information&module=&from=result&Style=helm&Sku=61K0G00&itemtype=N The product description says that it's a "reprint", but this is a new, fully-bound manual. There is a wealth of information in there and it only costs $39.95! --QM

My brand new 2019 Super Cub is Dead, it won't start again. Picked it up Saturday, they removed the tracking device. They said they tested the battery cells and looked the bike over and it has no problems. They found nothing wrong. Last night the bike wouldn't start. I'm trying to get my $799.00 tracker refunded and I have to fight to get it. It drove strong when I picked it up I noticed the lights were brighter and the horn much much louder. DID I GET A LEMON. Wow, sorry to hear about your troubles! That's certainly not typical for a Honda of any size. I would pressure the dealer to check the battery (if they haven't already) to be sure that they filled it properly. If the battery is bad or even marginal, I'd replace that first. The cost should only be around $50-70 for a new battery... you can fight with the dealer on who pays for it... preferably Honda's warranty should cover the replacement. The only other obvious thing that I can think of is that something in the Honda Smart Key system is malfunctioning and draining the battery. Have you noticed if the courtesy lighting stays active after switching OFF the ignition (e.g. front headlight marker light, tail light, gauge lights, etc)? Whatever is the problem, your dealer is obligated to investigate it and open a warranty claim with Honda regarding the issues... the bike has a 12-month, unlimited mileage warranty! --QM

Yes, he supposedly "dropped" it in a parking lot when trying to place it on the center stand. There was significant damage to the right side, a chunk of rubber missing from the footpeg, and the rear brake lever was bent upward/inward about 4cm (with an impact mark on the FRONT of it). That wasn't a simple tip-over... the Cub hit something hard enough to bend metal parts. 😠 You can watch that repair video here, if you are interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZmTdaKwo8migLc . Cheers! 👍😉 --QM

Hey, follow you on KZbin and was wondering if you have had any issues with your Rally?
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 5 жыл бұрын
Thx for the feedback! I haven't had any mechanical problems with my Rally yet, aside from the alignment and high-speed wandering issues. I do have a few cosmetic issues with the bike that need to be addressed, so I plan to drop it off at the dealer to see if these will be handled under warranty or not. The main problems are rusting all over the bike: - under the seat area on multiple welds near frame junctions/welds - rusting front wheel hubs, entire inner surfaces and outer flange are completely rusted - rust on steering stem - rear fender and tail light assembly not mated properly, large gap on left side, not assembled correctly? - loud squeak and pop when turning wheels to full-lock on right side - loud, high-pitched whine from fuel pump after riding for about 20 minutes (or on the highway), seems to be related to ambient temperature These are mostly cosmetic items, but certainly annoying. The steering squeak/pop is the one that has concerned me lately. --QM

Ok great. I must have a lemon . I have had a cam seal blow out and o-ring in the motor that's on the back side of water pump . And now I have a fuel pump going out. All this in 4 mths and alittle over 2k miles, but so far covered by warranty. They told me at dealership that the pump is on back order and I'm the second individual to have this problem. Just letting you know to listen out for a high pitch tone when you start it up. Enjoy you videos and look forward to more. Cheers.

@@allenredding3536 I just started hearing that loud whine from the fuel pump a couple of rides ago... it's definitely a new noise. I will drop it off at the dealer to have them check it out. Thx for the heads-up! 😉👍 --QM

They said those pumps might not be strong enough for a long ride. 2+ hrs or more. It's a Bosch pump. They also told me that they were not sure the new pump will last long. Bad design and Can Am is working on it.

Does that windshield make that much differrnce?
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 3 жыл бұрын
The Asahi Short Visor does make a little bit of difference vs not having anything at all. The screen helps to break up the wind pressure across my chest, but my shoulders and helmet are still in clear air. That actually helps a lot for my highway trips and long-distance touring. A taller screen would be better for highway duty, but I don't like the "barn door" look of most of the larger screens for the Super Cub. Cheers! 👍 --QM

I think the side stand could stand to be another inch longer....
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 4 жыл бұрын
Yep, I thought the same thing when I installed mine. It's a genuine Honda part, so I'm not sure why it seems a bit short. I haven't had a problem with balance of the bike, and the foot sits flat on the ground (not canted), so I guess that's the way Honda designed it. I do wish that we could get the side stand switch for the ignition interlock... and a rubber safety flipper (as used back in the 80s-90s) would be nice as well. My real question is why Honda would omit the side stand from these bikes in the first place. Cheers! 👍 --QM

@@QuasiMotard How about doing a "Clutch" adjustment for us all to follow as i see lots of cub owners with slipping clutches ..
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 4 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea! I had the dealer adjust my clutch during the first service (600 miles) because it was slipping a bit. The procedure isn't too difficult... you just need a narrow flat/common screwdriver and a 14mm open-end wrench. I had to adjust the centrifugal clutch on my son's Honda CRF110 a few times, which is the same clutch assembly. 👍 --QM
