Cheers for the video. This is exactly the kind of riding I'm looking for albeit with a bit more & rougher offroad but still in the mindset of getting somewhere instead of playing around in the dirt. It is often a shame when you see a great view and later find out that the capture left much to be desired, though thankfully digital cameras are getting a lot better and cheaper while still being compact. And I have to say that side shot of the Transalp in those colours and with that view is stunning. From the side she looks fantastic, it's just the front that looks of due to the too small headlight. I appreciate your longer form and honest feedback on the Transalp since it is a bike I am seriously considering getting myself in a few years.

Why do you need a range function? Look at the fuel gauge. It may have validity problems, but the reading will be accurate, in that the pace it goes down the gauge's blocks will be the same every time. I have cruise control on my trike. I never use it. Shad panniers are very good. The frames look okay, too. A short trip like Gibraltar can be done on anything. My first four jaunts to the Algarve from Yorkshire were done on an XT500. Excellent video.

As an owner of two Tiger 900 GT Pros over the past three years you comment about the hot air being directly on the rider's knees, that is a generalization. If your a bit over six foot (tall) tall, have very long legs 33+ inseam and ride on the front of the seat and ride with blue jeans and ride in traffic on a very hot day you probably will feel some heat. I've heard that comment about heat on the knees before and made a video for those riders to add a cheap plastic deflector easily put on or taken off ( there also is company making a piece too) that deflects the air out a couple inches diluting hot air into the airstream. I'm glad you like your TransAlp but all bikes have a few warts if that is what someone wants to concentrate on.
@RocketMan_Moto
@RocketMan_Moto Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback. Videos I have seen on those little deflectors have concluded that they do little, if anything to help. When I took a Tiger out on a reasonably warm day (about 28C), the heat on my knees made things very uncomfortable. Finally, my dealer told me Triumph are fully aware of their mistake and altered the design of the ducts on the more recent 1200.
@flatcapcaferacer
@flatcapcaferacer Жыл бұрын
@@RocketMan_Moto Your experience is vastly different than mine and others who ride Tigers who comment on my channel. That doesn't make my experience mine more valid that yours or vice-versa . I'll confirm your dealers comments through Triumph USA. The Triumph Tiger 1200 has many configurations different than the Tiger 900 it would make sense if that was the case to change the Tiger 900 not just the Tiger 1200 correct? I've ridden on many bikes that lots of heat wafting up from the engine area over the last 54 years but I guess that is why we should take test rides so we can eliminate motorcycles that have issues that we find unacceptable.

I must say, I very much appreciate your insight and approach to motorcycles. You aren't caught up in all the liter bike madness and give honest and realistic impressions of real world use on the bikes. Your previous videos were an influence in my decision to get a 2022 CB500X as a way to get back into motorcycling. In that same vein, I'll be watching your Transalp videos as it looks like it would be the ideal step up/final bike for my needs. Thank you for the great content. You've got a great diction and cadence in your narrations, so keep up the good work! One suggestion I would give, if I may, is if you can run a second camera/audio and give us some videos of the bikes you ride in a raw format I'd love it. If you ran the second camera and audio while making your usual content, you could get two videos per session. I know this would mean more editing, but some of my favorite videos are just being able to see the sites and hear the engine and tires on the road.

About that fuel plate "baffle" inside your tank, you're not supposed to put gas above it. Just put the nozzle inside, fill it up until the pump stops and that's it. I have it the same way on my Africa Twin 2018, and the only time when I filled up the upper part, the pump read 26L instead of my 24.8 capacity, so I over-filled and got a check engine light... then my mechanic laughed at me when i told him. So yeah, check the manual, it says the same, don't fill up above that plate.

All reviewers praise the way Transalp handles in the corners, however they don't say what they are comparing it to. You own several bikes (from different categories), so I think that your view on this might be very interesting and relevant. Is the Transalp "fun, for an adventure bike", is it "nearly as fun a naked bike", is it "flickable like a naked, but with added comfort and range", or something else entirely? I usually ride on tight, twisty and paved mountain roads, so I'm curious to know how much fun can a Transalp be in such an environment. Does it allow for spirited riding, or does it turn to mush when you give it some leans and beans? Do you think that a tall-rounder on 17-inch wheels (like a Yamaha Tracer 7 for example) is more at home in the twisties than the Transalp? Oh, and thank you for your videos, they are very informative! I'm eagerly awaiting your next one.

Re the brakes RM, (9.22) I have personally found most brakes on modern bikes (full on sportsbikes apart), have an initial mild bite, but when called on are usually very impressive. Because in the early days, running in etc, we generally are lighter on the brakes, it's not often we have a need to use the brakes hard. So you may find as miles roll on, you may leave them as they are. The transalp is definitely a bike that's growing on me.... Or is it the iberian sunshine.

This bike seems to have lots of potential for adventure touring specially for the engine power but still odd choice by Honda to not put tubeless tires and cruise control on it if main purpose is touring. With adjustable suspension it could even had potential for off-road instead of limited to gravel roads only. The electronics and dash seems to be behind the competition in this price class but still not bad. I was hugely impressed by the Aprilia Tuareg 660, maybe not as much as KTM 890 or Ducati Desert X, but still for the money very good. Soon I will have chance to test Transalp and see if it is living up to the big hype.

I finally picked up my Transalp this week. I've got the taller touring screen fitted as part of the Urban pack. I've now retrofitted the standard screen as the buffeting was shaking my head about. The taller screen does push wind over the helmet and you could ride with your visit open but at higher speeds the shaking was too much to bear. The standard screen on the demonstrator that I rode a couple of weeks ago made my visor rattle but I don't recall buffeting, we'll see. I might also invest in the fairing deflectors As for the Roadsync app, that was a disappointment. The navigation is purely voice only (as you found) Also I couldn't get the bike to load a route initially until I looked at my phone and found that I had to accept a safety warning. Texts only work with the standard text app. Music only works with Apple play or Spotify. Small issues I know but apart from that I'm loving the bike.
@RocketMan_Moto
@RocketMan_Moto Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the heads-up on the tall screen, John. I had been contemplating it, as you know, but was worried that it might increase turbulence to the head. This is the problem with wind - everyone is different, but unfortunately it's not possible to try every combination of screen width/height + top deflector. The side deflectors seem to be effective and don't cause any turbulence, but I've had them on since delivery, so haven't really got a reference point. My dealer said that he had noticed the difference with & without, however, when he attended the launch.

The price difference between this and a Tuareg in Ireland is €1300 (UK £1101) which adds: cruise control, tubeless tyres, 40/50mm more suspension travel , fully adjustable too and and engine guard (but no rear rack). I couldn’t countenance buying this over a Tuareg if I was in the market for such a bike.

Thanks for the update! We have to wait until September before they arrive here in NZ, but hopefully the atrocious weather will have improved by then. I just reset the trip meter after filling up to give me an indication of remaining fuel range on my XL650, as the fuel gauge behaves in the same way. Probably the sender gives a better correlation to fuel height rather than volume inside the tank? Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures while waiting for my bike to arrive, thank you.

Very good. I've had a Thruxton for the last 7 yrs, so tubes don't bother me any. I have a little throttle lock on it too, to allow me to relax the throttle hand every now and again and it's perfectly adequate. CC is useless in the mountains anyway. The fuel indicator thing is a bit of a bummer. I guess the answer is to start looking for fuel about the time the first bar disappears. To my eye, it's the best looking ADV bike ever made. Of course, that's not necessarily saying much, but I do think it's a looker. I'm with you as far as the big, hot, overpowered, overtech'd world of ADVs. This bike makes perfect sense on so many levels. I have stubby legs, so I still need to find one for a fit test before I start writing checks, but it's definitely a bike I wouldn't have to stress over buying. Great value in a market full of overpriced pretense.

About fuel bars suddenly dropping, my totally stock XL700VA (Transalp 700) has a tank capacity of 17.5 liters, and when all bars are gone and gas tank shows empty, I can fill 13 liters. Meaning only 3/4ths of a tank are accounted for and in theory you can still get around 100km on "empty" tank. Something I have to account for and simply get used to. I'm no expert but I believe it has something to do with fuel measuring float being able to measure only that part of tank where it can move up and down, hence not possible to measure all crevices and curves of motorcycle tank that goes below the frame. Maybe TA750 has some significant headroom in tank where float can not reach. I would like to see where TA750 goes on RocketMan table of bikes.

The fuel consumption you report is only slightly worse than my current cb300r. So not only you found a parking spot in the tiny Gibraltar, but even a tree to chain it to.
