I have to commend your optimism. No point is stating the obvious as you know that you have a lot of work to do. The problem will be deciding as to what level of restoration are you willing to go to. Full on wheels up restoration or fix what needs to be fixed to get the bike safe and reliable and then run it? Interested to hear your thoughts in the next installment.

The plan is to get her mechanically sound, and sensitively restored. So the jobs are brakes, forks, carbs, at some point an oiling mod to the top end, as the oil pressure to the cams is inadequate at present, I’ll do a compression test first to see if we can see any sign of leaks anywhere, and although a breach across the cylinders can be hard to detect with a compression test, if the white smoke isn’t resolved with the engine having run for a bit after the carbs are sorted then, heads off and check them for blown gaskets. Although I’ll check the valve clearances at that point, as the clacking noise could easily be those out of whack, and remove the engine for a strip, clean and inspection, if I’m going to take the heads off anyway. With that I’ll also strip the terrible paint and then give it some proper engine VHT paint. Once that’s all done, and good, change the clocks to MPH, to get it U.K. usable, and of course vinyl wrap all of the fairings and tank back to their correct colours and get the decals correct. Oh, and a new seat cover. I think she is going to be a keeper so worth investing the time in. Not quite sure how much I will need to do before I can get her on the road, but a lot of the work is going to keep it off the road for quite some time. All in an afternoons work really 😂

Thanks, sounds reasonable, i hope there are no more surprises lurking under that awful hammerite esq paint job on the engine. Good luck. I hope you find a second bike to enjoy some summer runs and save the restoration work for the rainy days.

@@alanfrazer3291 yes I’m thinking of a second bike for sure, maybe a C90, I know Craig Jones of The Doghouse has one he’s bringing back to life, and about to put on eBay, so may keep a look out for that.
