Any chance i can send you a video via email and see if you know where the rattle noise is coming from during my cold start? I can’t tell if i need cam chain tensioners replaced or get a valve adjustment done. I dont have any weird noises during warm up or while riding.

I assume the valve clearance procedure for VFR1200X is the same aside from stripping the motorbike from all the plastic and parts to get to the valve covers.

Quick question how do you adjust that cam chain tensioner
@SuperbikeSurgeryTV3 жыл бұрын
The quick answer is "You don't" it's completely automatic.

@@SuperbikeSurgeryTV that's what I thought but I've seen people push the spring loaded pin down and with a hook pull the wedge up taking up the slack.

@@anthonylynn1969 If you need to start helping the Cam Chain Tensioners do it's job there is something wrong. Most likely in need of new chains.

nice job ! i bought a VFR1200 last year, and now am doing the service for the first time. Got the airbox out (hope i can put all those connectors back the way they were, arrogantly took no pics) but how the %*$&% do i get the front two spark plugs out ? Is there even enough room to remove the ignition coils ?! Took the rear ones out for now and left the front for tomorrow, wanted to read up on it to see if i am not missing something, as i can barely reach the connectors, let alone remove anything from there !

Hello. Can you help a little, I did a valve clearance inspection and spark plug replacement on a 2012 Honda VFR1200X. A lot of connectors were unplugged, and the ecu was unplugged, but the battery had been removed before. Now everything is returned, but the engine will not start. Engine cranking but won't start. Mil light is on. i have two codes c0702 and c0802 on diagnostic tool. what went wrong?

Fancy doing the same 16k mile service on mine? I was going to take it straight to Honda and let them do it, mainly so I can get a loan bike so I don't have to get public transport back. I'm near Portsmouth if you're interested👍
@SuperbikeSurgeryTV5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the offer! The callout to Portsmouth would likely make it uneconomical for you, feel free to give me a call to discuss: www.superbikesurgery.co.uk/contact
@scotwilson41695 жыл бұрын
No problem no harm in asking. Gonna bite the bullet and take it straight to Honda. One question though, do you have to remove spark plugs as part of checking valve clearances or adjusting? They want £140 to replace spark plugs on top of £600 for the service. I've just bought the exact model spark plugs for £49, just going to give them mine to put in. But are they going to try and charge me extra labour to fit the new spark plugs as well?🤔
@SuperbikeSurgeryTV5 жыл бұрын
@@scotwilson4169 It's probably an extra 10 minutes to swap the plugs over if you are at a point where you can do the valve clearances. You should be removing the plugs to make the engine easier to turn when doing the clearances, it sounds like they are taking the piss.
@scotwilson41695 жыл бұрын
Yeah I thought they would remove the plugs anyway while they're checking valve clearances, so theoretically it's no extra labour to fit new ones supplied by me. Last thing they could try and catch me out on is gaping the plugs. I have access to some feelers gauges at work so I could gap them myself I guess, just need to find a manual for getting plug gap sizes, then they can't say anything since they just go straight in👍
@SuperbikeSurgeryTV5 жыл бұрын
@@scotwilson4169 No need to adjust the plug gap especially with the Iridium type that is used in your bike as they come factory set.
