@@roadblastmedia - I actually ended up buying a CBR250R single cylinder - mostly because it was quite new (2012) compared to other bikes I'd owned. Plus I really wanted fuel injection this time around. The thing about Honda is that the bikes almost feel new even when second hand. Keep up the great reviews

@@StratfordWingRider good choice mate! The cbr is a beauty of a bike any Honda is really they're top notch for quality and can't blame you on fuel injected one less problem to worry about haha. Cheers for the feedback really appreciate it 🤙

Was my first bike. Best learner bike imo. Plus I have a soft spot for sporty style V-Twins, 90 degrees is more balanced and rev happy than the 45 (Nothing wrong with 45 degree Cruisers Imo, but a very different feeling engine). I upgraded to SV650 and it seriously feels very familiar. Would go Ducati Monster but I'm a fan of that Japanese servicing/reliability.

My ex thought she’d start on a LAMS Cruiser. Too big and heavy. Sold it and I recommended a VTR250. Much easier to handle, but she lost interest. I used to take for a fang around the Adelaide hills just to keep it all together. I’m a very experienced rider and even though 195cm and 90kg, it was a blast. Solid 41mm forks and for what it was, an ideal learner bike. Great fuel economy too. Around 3l/100klm. For a shorter and lighter rider, ideal. It was punchy enough down low and you could rev it all the way to redline for a decent buzz. Wish they’d made a 500 from this design. The 650 version was just not sporty enough. A mini monster of 500cc would have filled a real niche and taken it right up to the Dukes. Make it slightly larger and a cafe racer style = winner.

A bit late to your video, but I love mine. I picked it up as an abandoned cafe racer project. The guy had only started to fit a tail tidy and after market indicators. It's done around 104,000km and runs pretty well. Carbs need a clean and the cooling system needs a clean out, but it's a great fun bike to ride.

PS the 650 version ended up in the Deauville. I had the 700 version for a while. Also bulletproof. Extended Pannier covers and taller Givi screen. Very nice solo touring bike. Shaft drive a bonus as well. A mechanic at my favourite bike shop in the Adelaide hills, which also served coffee and snacks, saw me pull up one Sunday morning, and told me that an owner of a Deauville had put it in for a 200,000klm service, fearing the worst. Internally it was still perfect. Quality engineering and durability. Just routine maintenance was needed.

I've got one, my first bike! Agree with everything you said including clutch & neutral. Just such an easy-mode bike but with an engine & look that makes it fun instead of completely vanilla. Can't really think of a real weakness of the bike. As said in video, pre-2008 are carby. Also some don't have a tacho, not sure if thats a year-related thing. They come in a lot of good paint colours but also black frame or silver frame ones. Black or gold wheels. I think the blue/silver is my favourite, but mines just black on black on black. They're popular racing bikes in japan for low speed cone-weaving gymkhana stuff as i understand it.

What about props to your GF for getting it so quick?! I've tried to teach 2 people to ride. One just couldn't get it and gave up, the other, they got there in the end but it took waaaay longer than I expected (like, months) for them to get the clutch and gears sorted. Yo! How is it for you being a bit taller? I'm considering it for my first bike but i'm 190cm/6'3 ish
@roadblastmedia9 ай бұрын
Im 175cm around 5'9 and it was a perfect fit it was even low enough for my girlfriend to be comfy id say itd be best to sit on a few different bikes to get the feel. Being 6'3 the VTR might be a bit on the cramped side. A KTM Duke 390 would really suit your height. I was going to buy one before my RC390 but it was a bit on the tall side for me. Sitting on lots of bikes is the best bet. I now work at a motorcycle shop in Oamaru and have had the chance to sit on and ride 100s of bikes. Definately makes a difference in choosing the next one for sure. A good fit is extrimely important especially starting out!

Old? lol 😄 yes they definitely knew what they were doing, long before 18 years ago, my 89 VTR 250 (92Xlvis implant) is unbelievably dependable and handles awesome 👌 but I never bother to try and find neutral 😐 why do people worry about that? I always just turn her off in gear, which acts like a park brake on uneven surface, and starts so easily that I just pull the clutch and push the button and go, no worries at all 🤗
