In my eye this bike is better looking than most modern sport bikes. gorgeous! Most modern sport bikes try to hard with all them fiddly bits.
@scotty1934 жыл бұрын
Yeah I am with you on this, not this exact bike but the fact all modern bikes are slowly losing their aesthetics. Kinda started with the Ducati 916 for me and got progressively worse and as I like curves, then the Ducati 851 or 888 were infinitely better looking in my opinion. Honda wise older gen Fireblade's look amazing and I had a ride on an RC45 probably the best looking bike ever IMO.

True professionals -- respectful and polite, explaining what they're doing, why they stopped by and checking you out in a friendly way. A credit to the UK police! This should be shown to all officers as an example of how to conduct spot checks in highly sensitive areas like Chequers. Police there have had some tough incidents to deal with in the past, the kind of things the public never hear about, and you can be sure you had a couple of scopes on you too! Still, they showed you can be diligent and not intimidating. Enjoyed the video!

Hondas never die. I own a 27 year old Honda Transalp 600V which is a V twin liquid cooled too. But it’s an adventure bike. One day, when I’m rich, I’d like a dirt bike, a race bike and an adventure bike. Things missing from older bikes (including mine) which I’d like: ABS, traction control and a fuel gauge. Judging by the number of accidents where riders grabbed too much front brake, ABS is a worthwhile addition. Maybe traction control too. Oh, and British cops are cool.

@@FrankFurther Your views are at best based on narrow minded personal prejudice and at worst thoroughly offensive to a group of public servants who have continued to work and serve the public throughout this current crisis. My wife and I have 60 years of police service between us and I can assure you 99% of police officer are not " power hungry" or "dickheads"... And frankly are far too busy to waste time stopping motorcyclist for no reason. The vast majority also have a far more extensive knowledge of the law than you! In that note I might add that...a) you don't get three points on your licence for just having a noisy bike. b) If you were given a fixed penalty notice, you had the option of challenging it in court if you feltl it was so unjust... And finally c) if you have only got three points on your licence, why would you have it taken away if you get stopped again? Perhaps if you wish to express your views you could try to do it in a less offensive way.

What a bike, every time I see one I only think of 1 thing, the late great Joey Dunlop. I seen him at the Cookstown 100 and the Northwest 200 in 2000 on the sp1 and the noise of it at full rip is something I won’t forget especially when your boy hood idol is racing it. Hell of a bike and for a 48 year old man at the time he could still show the younger racers how to ride it. Little did I know that would be the last I’d ever see him racing again 😥

I remember test riding the SP 1 in 2001 whilst trying to do a deal and trade in my Suzuki TL1000r. Night and day difference in braking and handling although the power difference wasn’t that noticeable (my TL was well sorted in the fuel and exhaust dept though). I was oversteering it everywhere for the first 3-4 miles as it was so light and required no effort to turn in compared to the TL. The first time I braked hard from speed my backside lifted right out of the seat! Unfortunately I couldn’t do a deal, they were in such short supply the dealer could almost name his price! Added to the fact at the time it was more expensive than my wife’s new car, ouch!

With most people opting for R1s and GSXRs at the time sadly these bikes were overlooked so Honda eventually heavily discounted them as well as throwing in a few treats like a day trip to the factory in Louth and a day at WSB in Silverstone to meet Colin Edwards, get fed and come home with a goodie bag. I gather that the first prototypes used the firestorm style frame (where the swingarm doesn’t connect to the frame) but needed to be seriously beefed up for racing, so HRC ended up going with a very similar style frame to the twin cylinder version of the NSR500 that was around at the time.

Stunning looking bike, i loved the outakes at the end, an insight into how much effort and time that actually goes into these videos.

Sold my 2004 SP2 when I left Italy to return to the UK and miss it dearly.. to find an SP2 for a decent price now that hasn't been thrashed is pretty rare.. I went from a 2001 Ducati Monster 750 to the SP2 and it was grins from the day I bought it to the day I sold it.. very fond memories of this bike.

Notes from a recent ride: "I'm running easy and relaxed when I notice blue lights approaching from behind. I figured they had a wreck or crime to get to, but, no they were after me. Very nice young officer tells me I've been stopped for doing 55 in a 35. His supervisor had given chase too, so I had two police vehicles to get me stopped. I think the supervisor was a bit disappointed that all they had was gramps on a little Ducati instead of a ner-do-well squid. No ticket, all pleasant ... "

Lovely bike. I owned an Aprilia RSV1000R Factory (The Gen 2, not the "Mille"). You can see the designers at Aprilia were "Heavily influenced" by the SP1 and the SP2. Mine had the full Akra Titanium system and sounded glorious. I still miss it now. Full Ohlins and Brembo radial brakes, so handled as well as it looked.

Yes now you mention it the Aprilia's do have a passing resemblance don't they....

I was at the TT with your mate Dan the Man back when this bike was selling and we bumped into an Italian who had ridden this thing from Italy all the way to the TT. He must have had a iron arse...

If i ever have the chance or capacity to be a collector of older bikes, this one is right at the top. Saw the WorldSBK a few times, when it was still being raced at Kyalami, here in South Africa. Can remember that distinct sound of the Honda. Great video as always. Cheers

One of my fav sport bikes these. I had the opportunity to ride one in Streetfighter setup. Amazing bike and the sound is just lovely because of that vtwin and gear driven cam combination.
