Tigit Jon walks through his opinion on the 500km oil change service intervals that backpackers advertise.
He also talks about what a normal oil change interval should look like.

I saw 500k and thought you were going to say 500,000 km. Haha! I have a KTM 390 Duke. It runs on 15w50 fully synthetic oil. It gets changed every 5,000 km. Nick J

Semi-Synthetic 10w30 is fine. Brand doesn't really matter in my experience.

I own a wazehunda model 110a as written on the blue card in vietnam, I'm not sure if it's a win or not.. Anyway I don't understand why not just refill the oil at 500km instead of changing it fully, and then purge + refill with new oil every 1000km ?
@Tigitmotorbikes
@Tigitmotorbikes 7 ай бұрын
You could do that. But it requires doing it yourself. A mechanic would not do that. Most people watching my videos are not mechanically minded to carry oil and fill up on the go.

what about the change interval of synthetic oil change on the Honda XR?
@Tigitmotorbikes
@Tigitmotorbikes 10 ай бұрын
The point of the video is that on these "cheap" bikes, XR included. They burn oil. It doesn't matter what quality of oil you put in the bike. The oil still disappears. Putting in expensive oil, is throwing money in the toilet. For XR, change oil every 1000km, or regularly check the oil level. If you are checking the oil level, you can push to 3000km on normal semi-synthetic oil. No point putting in fully synthetic oil.

if your engine oil is disappearing in the XR less than 1000km, there is a problem with the engine, or perhaps the wrong oil is being used@@Tigitmotorbikes

What you are referring to as "Honda Win" throughout your video are not actually Honda Wins. A genuine Honda Win will not burn through oil ( when using the correct oil), and it won't break down on a trip from north to south and back, given that the bike has been properly maintained. It won't leak oil either given that the seals have been changed and there is no crack on the engine. Also the Honda XR 150 is a Honda bike. Honda China does not mean the bike is a fake Honda. These bikes are now being sold in the US market. A quick glance at the manual says the oil can be changed every 6000km. I bet most people never looked at the manual for these bikes and they put the wrong engine oil in.

I have a video more in depth about bikes here. This video is more about oil. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hauwZoCaaN-op6s You can't buy real Honda Win's anymore, and any "old real Honda Wins" are maintained with Chinese parts anyway. Real Honda Win's do not exist and is a market scam. I touch on the topic in a different video. I can't go diving deep into terminology on all the videos because they will become too long. Honda XR 150 is made by Honda Sandiro (google it). Huge fan of the bike, we own over 200 of them. I don't believe I called it fake in this video. You have done 1500km on your bike, I have suggested 3-4,000 is the real number for oil changes. It will also vary depending on country etc. Vietnam is not a place for high quality and changing everything regularly is the way this country operates.

You can buy genuine Honda Wins that are well maintained with genuine parts. I have one and I rebuilt the bike with the genuine Honda parts. This is the second Honda Win that I've done this with. It's a challenge because you have to know where to find the parts in a foreign country, but it is totally doable. The market scam you are talking about stems from a lack of knowledge that people in Vietnam, mostly foreigners have about what the Honda Win actually is. I've spent the last 5 years studying and rebuilding the real Win. I am starting a business to sell the real restored Wins in Hanoi. As for the Honda xr, you said "its not actually a honda". The manual says 6000km oil changes. if you don't use the recommended oil, or something as good or better, you will destroy the engine and it will burn oil. @@Tigitmotorbikes

@@alexspeciale7748 Right, so you are talking about a very specialist and Niche case of someone spending years studying and restoring the bike. In this case, the video is correct to box in "every" Honda Win and call them Chinese. It is one of the biggest scams on the market, and labeling them all as Chinese benefits the average traveler. Many sales happen on Facebook under the name of "real Honda Win" which isn't the case. Your restoration project and business sounds fun, though! There is a guy in Ho Chi Minh who does this for Honda 67's. Quick google for service manual of XR 150 here: 2rom-prd-data.hondamotopub.com/om/HPI/XR150L/2018/XR150L_32KRHH100_1.pdf It says every 4000km, which is what I have said in my video. My guess is that the service manual will change from country to country, though and depends on which one you have. We have some XR 150's that have Chinese writing all over them (for the Chinese market), and some that have Spanish on them (for the Spanish Market). There are small differences throughout the bike if you get a microscope out depending on its destination country.

@@Tigitmotorbikes if people are spreading misinformation about labeling Chinese wins as "real Honda Wins" then you are spreading misinformation also by saying there are no real Wins and they are all Chinese. Me spending time to research this bike isn't an argument in favor of the real Win not being available in Vietnam. It's available and there is a huge following for it among Vietnamse.

What crazy is this cheap bike short interval mentality carries on with big bikes for Vietnam natives. Common oil change interval for big bikes here is 2k. Yes, 2k for even something big like the GS. And no, they dont give a shit about the cost since if you're able to afford the GS here money isnt an issue.

Agreed. I don't know about BMW service centres. But at least most mechanic shops have no idea about oil filters. So I think this is the mentality, don't change the filter, just change the oil regurarly.
