I had a 74 XL70 like this one when I was a kid. Blinkers forward and aft, 10 inch tall mirrors on both sides, head light, tail light, speedo, and a title. Oh and a 4sp. Fantastic little Honda!

My 3 brothers and I got XL70's for X-Mas 1972 ! We really wanted XR 75"s but my pops could not round up 4 of them anytime soon in our area. We loved this bike just the same. We ran the hell out of them for years in the sand pit close to our house in Townsend , De.

Mike Mike Mike I can't believe you put that brand new petcock on there without cleaning out the tank or at least putting a filter in line before the carburetor, c'mon Mike you know better than that, lol. Anyway awesome video thank you for sharing your knowledge with us you are very much appreciated, keep up the good work 🔧👍🏻

I had a 1973 SL70 when I was in High School. It was setup the same as this when I bought it used in 1981. No lights or speedometer, the stock dual purpose tire on the front and a big knobby tire on the back. It was a good bike. Not fast, but it always ran. The four-speed manual transmission is much better for performance than the three-speed automatic clutch transmission on my CT70.

What’s that black bike in the background? Does it run? Maybe a future video? Keep up the good work Mike

It’s an early Honda C110. I had a video on the old channel of getting it going. I should pull it out again. Thanks!

Mike, I know it's a little late to be asking this, but is that rear tire and wheel a bit bigger than stock? I just bought the twin to that bike (haven't picked it up yet), and your rear wheel looks much bigger than mine. Maybe that's the reason for the huge sprocket and the way it still had great get up and go.
@MiniBikeMike10 ай бұрын
These bikes came stock with a 2.75-14 rear tire….I think. That looks like a 3.00-14 tire, so yes, a bit oversized. I recently rebuilt another one of these bikes and couldn’t find the stock size tire for the rear, I had to go a little bigger.
@bartgoins178210 ай бұрын
Thanks for the quick reply. I found a couple of place on ebay that have the stock tires, so that is probably where I'll end up getting mine. I should pick mine up in the next day or so. Well, Happy New Year, and keep the videos coming.

How many turns were you air/fuel screw and idle screw. I have the exact same bike and fixing for my dad and can’t figure out the carb settings
@MiniBikeMike2 жыл бұрын
It’s been a while since I worked on this bike, so I’m not exacting sure on the settings. I typically set the air mix screw at 1 turn out and adjust from there. I set the idle screw by whatever rpm at idle sounds best, I don’t count turns.

I have the exact same bike only with a few modifications. Recently out a 125cc engine in it, trying to get running. Harness from stator has 5 wires, factory harness has 4 wires. Only difference is the 5th wire is a trigger wire. Not getting spark, any suggestions?
@MiniBikeMike2 жыл бұрын
Are you trying to run lights……or just getting engine to run? If just run, use the simple $15 harness on Amazon. If you’re running all lights and signals, use Trail Buddy harness TB422.

I’m looking for a wiring diagram for my 74 xl70 . My book doesn’t have one in it ..?????
@MiniBikeMike2 жыл бұрын
Honda did a good job of using the same wire colors across their entire motorcycle line. You should be able to google a wiring diagram for a CT70 that had turn signals and be very close to your XL70. Something like a 1977 CT70 will use about the same wiring.

I like the bare bones look of that bike. Would be nice with a big thumper from Lifan or one dose.

Check out my latest videos. I just build an SL70 with Lifan 125 and completed a 90 mile group minibike ride.
