Instead of playing a second game, Garry explains to everyone everything they needed to know about his absense, his retirement, and who's gonna take over as host of the show. Quite sentimental, if you ask me.

Yes. Bill was 70 when he passed away while Garry was 79. Sad that neither is no longer with us. In fact the only person of the five who still is with us is Joe Garagiola who is 86 now. Kitty did live to be almost 97 though which is quite an achievement.

Joe lived to be 90, he passed in 2016. Peggy Cass passed in 1999 at age 74. Kitty passed in 2007.

Gary Moore was the host of the syndicated "To Tell the Truth" from 1969 until 1975. Joe Gardriola took over the following Monday and continued in syndication until 1980 or 1981. Gary started as a host of "I've Got A Secret" before he came to this show.

i taped this episode when it aired on GSN a few years back,along with 2 episodes from 1967 which were guest hosted by Mark Goodson himself. truly nostalgic,especially since GSN probably won't ever show them again unfortunately. i also have an episode from 1968,also taped off GSN that was guest hosyed bt the late Bert Convy,another true lost traesure.

I agree no need to demean Joe Garagiola. He was always a professional announcer and one of the best baseball broadcasters of all time. But, Garry Moore was a wonderful performer. So professional, humerous, humble, a true gentlemen. A great host of To Tell the Truth. Also, must acknowledge dry humor and wit of the Great Bill Cullen.

The final episode of "What's My Line" was taped in December of 1974 and didn't air until the spring of 1975. They had no idea they would be canceled at the time of the final taping.

Garry's version of "TTTT" is my favorite of all of them, even better than Bud Collyer's since Garry really seemed to be interested in the guests. I think Robin Ward's version flopped because it came too soon after Garry/Joe's ended and the comparisons were inevitable. As for Bill Cullen, he might have become the new host, but Gil Fates, in his book about "What's My LIne?," said that "Bill's superlative gamesmanship was missed on the panel." Somehow I suspect the real reason is implied below: Bob Stewart wouldn't let him host a second syndicated show ("$25,000 Pyramid"). Garry was as comfortable as an old shoe and almost irreplaceable; tell me, do you think Steve Allen did a better job as host of "I've Got A Secret"? In this meaner, more cynical age, there doesn't seem to be room for his type. More's the pity.

Joe didn't host for too long, as the show was cancelled in 1978. Robin Ward was 2 years later, but yes, there were some changes. The 1980 TTTT set looked like a disco with all those lights. The clamshell reveals were kinda nice. Panel was a mix, as there were no regulars, but we did get to see Kitty, Bill, and even Polly Bergen for the first time in a while. Robin Ward was bland but not horrible. One on One was a bit confusing, but a decent side game for TTTT. Perhaps what killed this show was Robin's lack of chemistry with the panel.

I’d forgotten all about Joe Garagiola hosting TTTT. But by then, I was exiting my early - mid teens and my game show years, transitioning to University as well as ignoble pursuits away from the TV.

Well, I wonder if the big problem with Bill hosting was the fact he was already hosting another syndicated game show, namely "The $25,000 Pyramid". Given it was a Bob Stewart show, I doubt Bill could contractually do it. Someone needs to help me with that.

Actually the story Bill Cullen told was that he was offered the job first, but preferred to stay on the panel. He thought he could be funnier as a panelist.

According to Wikipedia, Goodson and Toddman thought he lost his chemistry with the other panelist as Host, so it went to Joe.

In this video footage, Moore stated that he had a "no-no" on his throat (throat cancer). It took him a lot of voice therapy after his throat surgery to get in good enough shape to go out in front of a TV camera again. Garry Moore was still a constant smoker, and continued to smoke until his death in 1993.

Eugene Sedita His cancer surgery affected his speech. He had subsequent surgeries and if you watch his appearance on Sally Jessy Raphael in 1990, he talks about it and his speech is more affected.

Joe was fine on Strike it Rich, especially considering what he was working with. Besides the Q&A, the rest of the game was "hit a button, hope to win a prize"... okay it worked with PYL, but that was because of the numerous animated Whammies.

Moore felt that he was living on borrowed time. He felt that he was approaching the end of his life, and he wanted to enjoy as much of it as his health would allow him to. Garry Moore lived another 16 years, before he died in 1993. Also, by 1977, Garry Moore had been working in radio and television for 40 years. That fact also played a role in his decision to retire.

To ME, Garry Moore was THE host of TTTT - not that sphegetti-bender that replaced him. He was AWFUL between TTTT and hosting sporting games, I disliked everything about him.
