Hey I don't comment much but I have been a viewer for a long time. Whilst I am not a daily viewer anymore, I still cling to hope to ur mission and ur genuine passion to bring authentic voice to real people may it be on the streets or otherwise. So I need to be frank, ur business model is bad. I know making a site has better profit margins but what u offer there is really only for a small segment of dedicated fans rather than somewhat casual fans who may want to donate money to their fans. Make a Patreon or a Ko-fi account (I do recommend Ko-fi since u can have greater profit margin there since Patreon business model is getting a percentage of donations whilst Ko-fi is subscription based) and be smart on the membership plans (I do have ideas but it's too long). Make a sponsor segment because they are a good revenue source. Bite the bullet and make sponsorship segments on the videos. But integrity does come first, so pick ur ADS carefully. Then after some time, when u have either made a surplus revenue from ads and gotten trust from both viewers and sponsors, u can assert making sponsor links in the description rather than sponsor segments in the video. But most importantly, make good content. Make the interview interesting that goes deep on a topic. That answer is to make better questions and follow up questions that are detailed and deep that are authentic to their point of view. Make it so that it is interesting to hear, whether it be for intellectuals or the average joe. Ur mission is for a good cause but u need to be realistic in how u are able to make that cause a reality. Lol sorry for bad English since it is not my first language

Not sure how cutting cost is going to help a show that not many Asians themselves watch and, naturally, not too many non-Asians would watch it, either. I am Asian, and I have seen the ASIAN BOSS label numerous times on KZbin; but I think I have watched less than 2-3 episodes. I don't find that the show or the founders/hosts care much about true Asian people, cultures, traditions, and issues. NOT of the Asians here in the West or the Asians of ASIA at large, in the Pacific-Ocean regions. It's mostly spent on largely Chinese, South Koreans, and Japanese.... in Asia... South Koreans have their own odd K-Drama and other endless silly pop culture/sub-culture things. The Japanese are even more narcissistic and fetish-oriented, with even more video programming. The Chinese are under a totalitarian system, where the government arbitrarily decide which contents suitable or not suitable for the Chinese people, like they're little children needing parental supervision 24/7; so the CCP doesn't allow normal KZbin videos (only some young, tech savvy Chinese youth access FB, KZbin, Google, etc freely). For example, there are 13M Hmong in China (there's only 500K in Laos, 750M to 1M in northern Vietnam, 100,000 or so in northern Thailand, and 500,000 in the West. But KZbin VIDEOS released in China, by the one-two Hmong speaking channels in Yunnan... those videos have only 1,000 to 5,000 views. THAT MEANS either the Communist Chinese don't allow minorities to freely produce and to freely watch media videos... OR those 13M Hmong in China don't care about contents produced by other Hmong, in China (much less contents produced by other Hmong IN THE WEST). The average views on an average KZbin video produced by Hmong in Laos and those produced by Hmong in the West, from a totality of less than 1M people, however, are in the tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands. Good music videos by young Hmong artists, in the US and from Laos, get multiple MILLIONS of views.... again, from a Hmong population of 500K in the US, France, Australia, and Canada, as well as 500K in Laos, most of whom don't have easily or cheap access to the Internet.... Again, I see NO ASIAN BOSS talking about smaller Asian ethnics, either in Asia or in the West. Correct me, if I am wrong..... but if ASIAN BOSS didn't think, doesn't think, doing a 10 or 15 minute piece on, say, Sunisa Lee ---- the FIRST ASIAN WOMAN ever, on Planet Earth, to ever win the All Around Gold, from an Olympic (the Tokyo one) --- was a good or interesting idea.... as a way to really spotlight the various great achievements of the LARGE, DIVERSE ASIAN communities... then why do Asians, in general or in specific, bother watching Asian Boss? There are 1.4B Chinese, 270M Indonesians, 123M Japanese, 117M Filipinoes, 99M Vietnamese, 72M Thais, etc., etc. Again, there's only ~500K Hmong in the USA and they produce the first Asian WOMAN AA Gold Medalist from an Olympic.... ASIAN BOSS, which caters largely to Asians.... didn't think, doesn't think... that that merited a 10 - 15 minute documentary? But it has spent countless hours, over the years, chasing eclectic Chinese, South Koreans, and Japanese individuals down deep rabbit holes, on topics outside of the interest of Western, English speaking Asians... BTW, the same Suni Lee has just earned her SECOND CONSECUTIVE OLYMPIC SPOT, on the US Women Gymnastic Olympic team, for this July Paris Summer Olympics. She's the only SECOND Western Asian American woman to do that, after Amy Chow, who went to the Olympics 1996 and 2000. But while Chow won a gold medal, as a member of the US team that won the the Gold, neither she nor any other Asian woman, again, had ever won the individual, all-around women gymnastics gold, from an Olympic event.... until Sunisa Lee, of the 2020/21 Tokyo Olympics... (There's a Chinese American, in this 2024 Paris Olympics; but she's a second alternate, as she also was, in the Tokyo Olympics. The FIVE who are given an official member spot on THE US WOMEN'S GYMNASTIC OLYMPIC TEAM are Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera: two African Americans, one Asian, one White, and one Latino.) Even if it's for SPORTS personality purposes or showcasing, Sunisa Lee, as an Asian woman... SHOULD merit a little piece from the ASIAN BOSS, I dare argue... Anyway.... people who watch these KZbin videos, or who SHOULD watch these KZbin videos.... are largely WESTERN ASIANS (in the US, Europe, and other Western countries). First of all, it's largely or exclusively in English. Secondly, very little chance the average Chinese, or South Korean, or Japanese, IN ASIA, would watch these ASIAN BOSS English programs. Or care about them, even though, again, MOST Asian Boss' programming has been largely about Chinese in China, South Koreans in South Korea, Japanese in Japan, so on and so forth....

This really is true and not enough people understand it. Instead they burn through their initial seed money, burn through their 2nd round of investments from family and friends, burn through credit cards, burn through anything else but in the end it still fails because the fundamentals of business don’t change and haven’t changed since Adam Smith’s time. Trying to run a profitable business by relying on an income stream from KZbin is throwing away your money. KZbin’s algorithm for how a video is referred is opaque to the content creators. While Patreon is a nice idea, it can’t sustain a business model like this because it still relies on KZbin’s referrals for new viewers to drive them to become potential Patreons. And that’s assuming that using another subscriber based model is any better for a business to be viable long term. I doubt that it is because there’s too little control over that platform.

I understand it is easier to say than to actually implement it, but why not have a separate channel, doing a different type of content, that resonates with the masses more AND also able to receive better CPM/sponsors from other companies and use a portion of that profit made and inject it into Asian Boss. The goal for Asian Boss is to shed light on social, economical matters of asian countries and bridging the difference between east and west without being "filtered/bias" like mainstream media, but you can also achieve this thru tourism-esque videos or food centric videos, like say interview a native and talking about culture whilst introducing food native to their country or maybe instead of street interview, maybe go for a pre-planned walk around hangang or seoul park and interview them while also showing the beauty of the place and promoting it. I'm aware that it is a slightly oversatured market but it would reach a bigger audience which in turn can be an increase in traffic to your main channel in the long run. Plus, those types of content are much easier to be condensed into short form content and gain traction easier. But basically, maybe have an alternative channel/content that is more lightweight (content wise), appeals to masses more and is a lot more sponsor friendly and if someone wants a more serious and indepth topic, redirect them to the main channel. Sorry if it's a bit too long or may come as a bit arrogant for me to suggest but i've been enjoying the content for years and it's just sad to see that you've been struggling for this long. 😞 All the best Asian Boss 💪

People who care about social topics and have the means to support don't always have the time to consume it, but may want to support to assure that the mission continues. Like you said, it's not fame that is the goal but to document and bridge cultures, and that's a people's mission more than an corporate advertisement mission

Having Lived in Japan I would love if you guys continue on what made you guys famous. The on the street’s interviews where you discover that culturally they have a different perspective completely on a subject you would think is universal in your Country. Also showcase the lighthearted more comedic differences that surprises the other cultures. For Example I found out that Japan freezes rice not bread but In Hawaii we freeze bread and not rice. Both sides seemed amused to this fact. Would love to find out what other countries in Asia do for that for instance.

Keep going boys, whatever it takes, just keep going. It's admirable to aim for the Hero content, it's exactly what such channels should do. I mean Japan itself, they have so many issues going on, that is only 1 asian country with problems. Making people aware of these problems is step 1. You mentioned Rogan, I would use him as an inspiration to do better, perhaps go a bit in that direction. Not completely stop the street stuff, keep it, but add some longer form honest conversation podcasts on certain subjects. The street stuff is too saturated, I would aim for quality, I would aim higher.

Big fan of Asian Boss interviews and you are right, it serves a unique purpose compares to travel and geopolitical content. I am sure there are many people who are interested in your content. But as much as I want to watch all videos from Asian Boss, there are too many videos interviewed in different languages. I'm certain many people like myself instead of watching KZbin, actually listen as podcast. When we do that we are unable to read subtitles so that is a huge opportunity lost. I suggest you dubbed the interviews or provide options for that.

lol, the world doesn't revolve around you. The most widely spoken and understood language on earth is Mandarin Chinese. Nobody is going to watch Chinese people dubbed in English. Grow up.

i don't care don't listen to the comment section. I actually admire you guys, for trying so hard to make the business model that you believe in work. Obviously it can fail, but i'd rather see you guys try to make it work and not damage your integrity by fleecing bs products like other content creators

Love you both ❤❤ I love your channel. Keep following your passions and joy and you will be rewarded…everything will fall into place. Sometimes changes are a blessing because it catapults you into the next thing which you were not planning to do. It is all divinely orchestrated. Have no fear and no doubts.

Having followed Kurzgesagts jurney from their very early videos to where they are now. I think that merch really did not only save but elevated that channel to one of the juggernaut educational channels today. It makes me believe that in a capitalist world, having good merch is kind of a necessary evil. Even if that's something you don't want to put any energy in. Now Asian Boss might not be in a position to start doing merch. But if given an oppurtunity, it would be something worth trying. Also, just brainstorming. Maybe you can also have some interview topics that are marketable so you can maybe get sponsors like Gates foundation or something like that. Liek asking opinions and the precieved impact of global warming. Or the culture around the use of tobaco. Or the impact of social media and things like that. Anyway. Hope things work out for you guys.

I think they can have both business models. Being a marketer myself, some brands might feel paid sponsorship dilutes the content they are trying to put out. But if have a team to screen you can actually get a win win situation. While subscription strategy you need to have more serial content that is only exclusive to the ones paying. Basically paid sponsorship pays for your KZbin free vids. Your subscribers pays for higher quality content available only on your website.

Sadly, so many are struggling to keep afloat under the current environment. If you give the option to donate when we can afford to, it might bring in the funds you need. I'm a single Asain mum who can't afford a regular subscription cost, but I can afford to donate every so often when my finances aren't too tight.

You know your heart and your intention. Back yourself :) It's okay to ask for money. And do another crowdfunding if needed, as long as you try your best to put the money on good use. People who donate their money are not asking for your success. They just want to see you keep trying.

🤔 Asian Boss dudes: 1) Why are you whining about money so much more than other channels (like *1420*) when your formats are mostly *cheap and free street interviews of random people?* 2) Asian Boss has over *3M subscribers and almost 1B views.* For *every 10M views, you would get about $30K-$50K.* That means you made *$3M-$5M* already and continue to rake more in perpetual. 3) You also got *$745K fundraising* in 2021! 4) You had investors for many years before pandemic. 5) Posting/hosting on KZbin is FREE. 6) Do you really need a separate "studio" and expensive camera/sound/staff setups for simple sit-down chats which can literally be done anywhere with a good phone camera and mic?

I have a feeling a lot of their audience is from Asia which pays vastly lower RPMs. 1M views on a video in the US may make them $5000 but if those views are say in the Philippines or India they could be making $1000 or less. They need a business model other than relying on AdSense. But they haven't figured it out yet.
