When the very first film came out, there used to be a channel called Spike TV. They had a handful of shows geared for performance tuning. One of the hosts said he was pretty furious, at how the show glorified illegal street racing in which the racers along with innocent civilians just driving home often got badly hurt or even killed. He pointed out, if you have money to pay thousands of dollars to modify and tune your car, you have money to pay for track time. He was a racer too. He was right. Nowadays you have street racers taking over streets, using the internet to coordinate with others. Especially in parts of California. And yeah, you still have people getting killed. That's the real legacy of The Fast & The Furious franchise.
