Not sure if you already know this or not, but the flashlight, plunger, and darklight also work with the L and R buttons.

@@Platinum0615 can't say for sure if I knew that, it's been that long since I played. I think the real isn't I was having wasn't using the wrong ability, but that you had to be in the right position, at the right time, just to have a CHANCE of damaging the final boss (and even then you'd usually miss a seemingly perfect throw).
