The movie brought my kids a lot of joy and they both love it. That’s good enough for me. The call backs, Easter eggs, and music choices also hit my nostalgia enough to keep me engaged enough. At this point I have to wonder what DCEU movie has the least slow-motion in it since even the non-Snyder's ones have been not great about like _Wonder Woman_ (2017), where excessive slow-motion was the worst thing about that movie outside of the Ares reveal (at least until _WW84_ existed). It would be rather funny if the one with the least is the most "Marvel-y" one a.k.a. _The Suicide Squad_ (2021) even though the MCU is doubtless guilty of excessive slow-motion too to some extent in some of its movies by this point.

It was good choice having Luigi be the hostage instead of Peach. Rather than just being the unexpected hero rescues damsel, it gave Mario the drive to save somebody who's close to him and you can tell Mario and Luigi have a good brotherly love for each other. Also, Mario having get help from Peach not only progresses the established image of Peach being an independent fighter but also gives Mario and Peach time to develop a relationship. Luigi still could have used a little more screen time, but it was a smart choice.

Mission was NOT accomplished. If making a film that appeals only to children under 7, then i guess so. They didn't write a film to appeal to the tens of millions of adults that grew up with Mario. They could have written a film that appeals to every age (a la Toy Story). Instead, they ignored adults almost completely. The dialogue and jokes were for tiny children, like stuff out of an old joke book. I was sooooo bored, and couldn't wait for it to be over.

People complain Mario doesn't have an Italian accent. But the fact is, in this interpretation, he grew up in an Italian family in New York (or somewhere around there). He likely wouldn't have an Italian accent by nature, but would be familiar with what one sounds like.

Yeah why would we want him to sound exactly like every game he has ever been a part of the past 30 years that had voices for him.....oh wait..... They literally did the voices right in the commercial and should've just kept them the entire movie but instead needed name recognition instead so went with big name actors. They were the only two in the entire movie that didn't fit their part too which is sad considering they are the two main names of a mario bros cast...

Yes, it's not just unexpected hero rescues damsel. It gave Mario the drive to save somebody who's close to him and having help from Peach not only progresses the established image of Peach being an independent fighter but also gives Mario and Peach time to develop a relationship. Luigi still could have used a little more screen time, but it was a smart choice.

@@catdogmousecheese Right. And in a movie called “Princess Peach” I’d expect to see what I saw in this film. The Mario series was almost exclusively “plumber rescues princess from monster”. It deviated from that formula for some entries, but that was the core of the series. Should have started with that, then branched off. For Mario to not be needed in his own movie is a shame.
