You know what's especially funny? Growing up in the 16 bit era, I played the heck out of Maximum Carnage, which was a repetitive beat-em-up that included both Spider-Man and Venom but generally played the same for both (but I was PUMPED by the subtle differences, such as how Venom would smash the ground while Spider-man was a bit quicker). Even though the storyline of the game involves more than a dozen heroes working together, all the rest simply join in as single-use items that summon them for a quick attack. Meanwhile, I also played an X-Men game on SNES as well that had a roster of five, and while they were a bit more varied the general gameplay was still the same for each and to use their powers you had to use fighting game button combinations. If you had given the me of that time this Avengers game, I'd probably had pooped my pants in glee just from the roster and character differences alone. You mean I can play as Iron Man and ACTUALLY FLY, instead of some fake imitation flight? Wow wow wow. Does the apathy for a game like this signal just how far we've advanced, or that we have simply become spoiled?

Plus if you just hold onto the credits you get for completing the core heroes battle passes, you'll be able to get the new battle pass for no actual extra money and those battle passes will give you back more credits than you spent once you complete them. So, it's only a problem that takes extra money if you make it one.

Case in point, I don't play as Thor, Cap, or Iron Man to unlock suits but rather because they actually play like how I think they would. Also, if you're playing just to unlock things then you'll already have the credits to unlock the pass... So what's the problem?

I bought this game for like 10 bucks a week ago, there are no micro transactions any more. All that stuff is unlocked in the game now free of charge so there's like 60 or so outfits to choose for most characters which is fun. I quite like the story and found Kamala Khan to be a fun and engaging protagonist, very much a teenager but not in an annoying way. Quite nice to see her as a child look up to these heroes at the beginning too, really shows how larger than life they are to impressionable children. After finishing the main introduction story, my only complaint is not finding out what the heck Thor did during the 5 year time skip. Looks like he worked a regular job but it's not mentioned what it was. But Thor and honestly most of the heroes are written and acted out pretty true to their character I feel. Only Iron Man does not quite feel like himself, but having lost everything is kind of a sensible explanation for that. The scene of Kamala and Bruce in the car is also a lot of fun, totally needless but really captures their personalities so well without any dialogue. Gameplay could be a bit more varied, playing the different heroes does switch it up and I disagree about them all playing the same. Not sure why they put pretty much two Thors and two Hawkeyes in the game though.
