On Dami's rap part, I think I can kinda guess what you were trying to say. She was harmonizing with the bass and rapping phrases interchangeably. Meaning in 1 full sentence, it is a mix of words and low notes and she's alternating between the 2 in a single breath. Also she is capable of using varying vocal ranges to emphasize words differently, thus giving each word a specific, intentional feel.

At first I was kinda disappointed with this album as well and the solo's really saved it for me. But a day later my opinions on Maison shifted 180 degrees and now in just jamming to everything in the album.

A possibly weird take away from your comment, but thank you for stating it as 180˚ shift, and not a 360˚ shift. A personal pet-peeve likely. But I had a similar experience, too. Music-wise, 'Always' and the lighter solos still fall a bit short on me, but that's just my preference showing. I'm surprised I ended up liking 'Starlight' and 'Together' though, as my first thought when they were teased was that I wasn't going to like them. I like a good 180˚ twist.

I didn't really vibe with the chorus at first, but I think they wanted the climax of the song to be the last chorus so that it could be creepier and more haunting. Also, if you can notice, the chorus is a bit stagnant than the pre-chorus, and I think it was meant to be like a "chant" or smth (which became more chant-y on the part before the "La La Maison" part), which kinda made sense to me ✨️✨️

I also didnt vibe with it that much at first especially since I was trying to play it with 4 devices all together but the more I listened to it and got the time to sing with it at times (even though i was spouting gibberish), the more I liked it XD and now It is on repeat. The pace also is really fast which could emphasize the urgency of action needed to save earth that was relayed in the lyrics.

Edit: Yeah. The uniform nature of the song is like 'No More,' but so much more non-driving? The song's at 120 BPM, believe it or not, and it has these moments where the guitar and drums seem to push it forward, but then it feels like the vocals are almost falling behind the beat. It's definitely a weird composition, and it seems like much more of the time went into developing the lyrics instead. Which are amazing, don't get me wrong, but I wonder if that decision was made because DCC felt that they can't be too visually/aurally outspoken, if that makes sense. But the issue here is that lyrics are only properly understood in their original written language, and that extra layer of meaning just becomes lost to outside ears. Those smaller nuances and details a lyricist comes up with in that mindset are just not conveyable across language boundaries, and that's really sad, because LEEZ and Ollounder probably spent ages on them and made many revisions. I feel like song-wise, the actual level of musicality wasn't anywhere near their usual standard for a title track, but the message and lyrics do help push it across the line. I did miss the iconic DC rock-chorus build-up though, but I do recognise and thank them for continuing that sound in 'Intro: Save us' and 'Locked Inside A Door'. I'm curious as to the origins of this piece, though. Was it a sample piece from awhile ago and they thought of developing it more, or was it composed with the intentions of it being a part of this album, but they just weren't sure whether 'Locked Inside A Door' or this song was going to be the title track yet? LEEZ and Ollounder are usually really quiet in their production process, but I'd love the opportunity to find out, if such situation was presented to us somehow.

What happened to me and that might explained why many people felt underwelmed at first: i wasn't expecting the chorus to be so linear. Once you listen a second time and just listen to what it is and not for what you were expecting, it slaps with its own charm. Then it gets so fucking addictive.

personally, I think this is their best title track to date, people are too fixed on the common structure regarding section transitions imo, StayC did the same thing with ASAP and they got the same type of backlash for it, for me it's the good kind of unexpected and It doesn't take away from the song at all, funnily enough, people were all too quick to defend NMIXX's structural mess but that's a whole other conversation

I agree with you that I think many people are too fixed on common structure regarding dreamcatcher's musicality & structure in this track. I personally think it sounds fantastic and unique, and that people's ears might just be too used to the usual musical patterns to be able to properly appreciate a different approach to the musicality and structure of the song upon first listening to it, especially because it subverts their expectations.

I was originally underwhelmed from the song, but I think it's good that they're changing it up a bit. I think it still needed a bit more of their usual sound though. If only to drive the song forward and keep the pace going. At times, the vocals sounded like they were falling behind the beat, but that could just be an arrangement issue. I think what's interesting is how you interpret the structure. Now, I think it was all very purposeful and meant to represent our current "drive" and motivations towards climate change. The first ~1 minute of the song is the past, the second 50 seconds is our present, and the last ~1.3 minutes is our future (post-JiU's bridge). The bridge acts like a transitional phrase between the present and the future, which can represent DC's musical intentions to push the world past our current "anchored in inaction" faze. In the present, the continued melody and beat represent how we're still getting leaders and corporations on board to actually do something. It's the "new day, same shit" that has carried over from the "past," and hasn't actually done anything to improve the situation that came to light ~50 years ago. Not having that usual DC rock lead-in to the second chorus creates this long, arduous, almost psychologically painful first two thirds of the song. It's musically detailing how we're getting nowhere in hopes for any sort of future. That descending and fade-out into the bridge is also propped up by an ascending suspense SFX, which is usually present in other DC song's before (or at the end of) a chorus, too. The bridge is metaphorical and represents crossing over of the present to the future. It's the beginning of the future, and that's when the final chorus gets back to DC's sound, and you can hear all of the other usual SFX and interference before the drums and choreography go all out feral to bring the song home (or should I say, 'Maison'?😅) DC's music is a great study in how well composers can represent a story in a pre-decided number of bars or clock time. As written before, the song can basically be broken down into three main parts, but the bridge also forms its own thing too. It's a great song for metaphorical and literally parallels, and really represents the whole "story" aspect of music and the journey from this part to where it next picks up. Same, but the last 40 sec where they amped it up change it for me. The opera-feel choir, extra guitar layer really lifted the whole song, and somehow this ended up becoming my top title track. Plus if you really, really pay attention to the details in their full choreo makes the song experience so so much better. And this is their most tiring choreo up to date

The dance practice really made me realise how feral the last part is, because it's not portrayed in a way that's as obvious as how they usually convey that rising tension in other songs. And we got SuA in centre for it too, which is always well-deserved as the main dancer and makes up for her shortest singing time.

I'm glad you lived up to the title of the video and shared your honest opinion! For me especially the chorus was at first a little underwhelming but I really liked the progression of the song and Dami's rap indeed is fire! Now I really like the song! The lyrics are also to my taste, they were made such that you indeed can understand them pretty easy but really disecting them does still provide deeper meanings. Besides that of course the message is very important and I really love them for using their platform to spread awareness of the real live problems we wil face. i know what you want to say about the pre-chorus in this song because in other title track songs they always give us a strong pre-chorus so when they hit the chorus it kinda feels good like a rollercoaster they bring us to the top then when the chorus drops it feels so good but in this song, they use a little bit a flat pre-chorus so when the chorus begins we don't know it was chorus until Dami's part come.

The words that come to mind for Maison are "relentless" and "urgent". There isn't a moment's peace to be had, even in JiU's bridge there are dissonant swirls of noise. All in all, a wonderful composition that sacrifices the more conventional dramatic structure of their own back catalog in favor of punching home a single message: "Please someone fight for us." Alas, if only climate change could be solved by enough somnia running through brick walls, the deed would be done already!
