HONEST review of the 12MP Tasco Trail Camera 2021 Review!

I have owned the Tasco 8MP & 10 MP in the past. All of them have stopped working (even with brand new batteries). When they work, they are great! I needed a spare camera, & I am giving the 12MP a try. I see very little difference in the buttons, setup, latches, etc... Just in testing it out in my yard, I also noticed pics load blank. You don't see what is on the pic until you import the pictures. I typically import (using a MacBook Pro) pictures & they are deleted off the card at the same time. The pics are there, but I've never seen blank pics prior to importing before. Seems very odd??? I love the simplicity of these cameras. If they didn't stop working over time, I would own more of them.

That’s exactly what happens with the 12MP.. I hate it. With the 8MP you can view the image thumbnails and download keep. Delete which ones you want.

@@jlbankstonoutdoors I understand what you are saying better now. Any pic that I saved can't be opened by my preview app on my MacBook Pro afterwards. I can see the image after it's imported, but I can't save an image that can be reopened (get an error message instead). This sucks! I doubt I will keep the camera, unless someone knows of a solution?

@@driftlesshunter9200 I’m not sure how MacBook files work tbh. But I would think you should be able to use them using QuickTime or a file folder option. But yea it sucks. I hate that it’s not compatible with Apple products

I called Tasco today and held for over an hour. Apparently the file that it wrote out now with the new cameras is a file format not supported by apple/Mac which is why it doesn’t work. The girl I talked with said you can use an app called VLC that will load the image. But I haven’t had success with it yet n

I've had the same problem a couple of times using an Android phone. I've got it to work by unplugging the reader then putting it back in or just waiting a few seconds for the view files to pop up. Not a biggie to me if it wouldn't work as I always take the card home and look on a computer anyway. Only problem I have with mine is when it rains, the pics get partially blurry from the water. So far well worth the $22 I gave for mine.

You can use a micro USB cord and a USB adapter to convert it straight to your phone and bypass the card reader this way you can also save or delete your photos or videos to your phone I do it all the time with the 12 megapixel tasco camera.

When I put my tasco 12mp camera in the "on" position? It begins the 10 sec countdown. What is the "confirmation" that it has taken a photo? My LCD screen is blank! It's called "lo glow". Is there any glow?? Is there a battery indicator? I tried in both video and photo. I got nothing. No photos. No videos. I could not confirm that anything was taking place. Help!

3 out of 4 of these i own are junk and corrupt the picture files even with new memory cards. I like the menu and picture quality but the software is defective

I’ve had the same problem with the 8 and just tried the 12. I’ve got 7 8 MPs and 3 of the work great in my card reader. The other 4 I have to put the card in my laptop. Also the time stamp is different. The 12 MPs aren’t working in my card reader. Really frustrating because the 3 that work I really like

I talked with Tasco the other day. They said something with Max/Apple products that the format Tasco is writing to isn’t readable by Apple products. Assuming your using an iPhone

can you tell me how high do you mount a trail camera?

There is not a set height. Often people mount them high so they are not seen and stolen. If mounting high you must take steps to aim the camera down at the area you want photographed.

Is there a place you can send a camera for repair ? Went to check my camera and it was not working, thought the batteries died, after bringing it home to change batteries I discovered that the battery box had shorted out? And melted part of it, when looking in the battery box slot I can see what looks like burnt inside the camera. Should I just chuck it and buy a different camera or send to get fixed ?

I called Tasco/Bushnell and found out that they updated the jpeg format they used to write out to the image files with. The format isn’t supported by apple at all. On Mac or any apple devices.

I have had the same problem with my SD card reader not viewing my images from the 12MP until I look at them on my computer. Did Tasco say why?

I haven’t found out yet. I can import it but only shows half the image and can’t share them with friends. I’m testing with Video this week. I’ll let you know how it turns out

My tasko camera takes videos but they black screen with a question mark in the middle of the screen When I put it in the reader it says failed to initialize. Help

My only recommendation is to put your SD card into a PC. If your using an apple phone or computer. It won’t read because of the format Tasco decided to use for this model camera

@@7colby if it’s an IPhone there are some jpeg conversion apps you can download that you can view them on but your literally doing one photo at a time and may end up costing money. It’s easier to just plug the SD card into a card viewer or your windows PC

How do you adjust the sensitivity

After you choose you image/video settings. You have the options of :05, :15, :30, :60, and 3:00. Those are your sensitivity settings. I keep mine on 5 because I want as many photos as I can get. But you gotta be careful on a windy day because it will take every movement.

Supposedly it works great till I tried replacing the batteries in it and now only four 8s come up on the screen and nothing else will work no buttons no setup nothing it's a piece of junk do not buy it

I still own several of the older ones without any issues yet. I still recommend them but only if you have a PC and extra SD cards with the newer 12MP.

That card reader is complete garbage. That is your problem not the camera.

I disagree. The card reader works perfect. I called tasco/Bushnell to se e what changed between this model and the previous models. The issue is with Tasco/Bushnell changing the format of the image file that isn’t compatible with Mac/Apple products. Their words, not mine. If you put that card in a MacBook. It won’t read, but move it to a PC it will. You can read through other users comments on this video and they will confirm that as well.

@@jlbankstonoutdoors My apologies then. I personally bought 4 of those card readers and they all quit working after 2-3 uses. That is my experience and how I came to that conclusion. I just picked up a new 12mp Tasco today. Will see if I have any issues or not.

@@lynnlemoine1956 on a lighter note. I hate that you’ve had such bad experiences with the card reader. I’ve had my original one for going on my 3rd season now. It’s starting to have issues. So I may need a replacement for it soon
