Honest Review: Thunderhawk Accustrike Mega Nerf Gun

The sheer difference between his "first review"s and his "honest review"s is huge, cuz when he's doing the stuff at toy fair he's pandering to the hasbro execs around him, but when it comes to these vids, he is brutally honest and i love it.

It's always hard to be sure if it's "brutally honest" or "brutally contrary." It's pretty clear this is not a competitive play blaster but it feels like, in many cases, Drac is not the demo for this product and taints his review. There are clearly some dissapointments in this blaster - as seen both here and in other reviews - such as MTBs - particularly with the range of the asccu megas ( I have yet to see anyone use the Mega Accufakes ), it being a harmonica rather than regular clipazine, and the inobviousness of how to remove the harmonica. Part of me wishes this had been a clip for the sheer ridiculousness of slamming a Tyrant clipazine into it. Sadly, looks like a Post Christmas clearance purchase.

People buy blasters like this because the main market is for kids, not adults. The "hardcore" market is probably a tiny part of Nerf's business as opposed to parents buying these for their children. My son would love something like this, because it is so ridiculously long. He loves the Centurion for the same reason.

MTB makes a pretty compelling case for its mod potential. Mind you, it would take work, but it has the fixings for a plunger tube upgrade and a pump grip.

It's the short piston stroke that's the real limiting factor. Even if the factory plunger is replaced with a longer PC or PVC tube, the only way to lengthen that priming stroke is to lengthen the priming rod slot by cutting the shell and gutting the inside. As the shell stands, if the plunger takes a short length of k26 spring and the internal catch is strong enough to hold it, you could have a decent performance pump action Mega blaster, but hardly game changing. Yes, the clip can be easily sleeved to accommodate .50 cal darts, but you'd still be left with an oversized, ten round Elite blaster of questionable performance.

The "Magazine" Is the area where the rounds/ammunition/darts are stored. (Even muzzle loaders have what can be called a "magazine" in this sense. A clip loads the rounds into the magazine, usually (But not always) internal. How did you come to the conclusion that this is a clip? I'm genuinely curious, and would love to learn something new, but I've shot real guns since 2 years old, and you calling that a "clip" confused me.

@Drac With the clip couldn’t you top off after each shot on the go? Then all you have to do is throw the clip home and you’re ready to go again. Also MTB made a point that you could use the front gimmick as a pump grip, as it’s already keyed in to the bottom rail. I wouldn’t be so quick to knock it. Give their video a watch Drac, it might change your mind

I don't know why the thought of a permanent harmonica clip appeals to me so much as it does, I really want that idea to succeed as I would love it but every time they fiddle with it they don't seem to get it right. I personally love the reload idea and how you can top off as you're playing.

I wonder if you could make a 3d printed chain that could feed through the clip slot on the side, take off the 'makes it look bigger' section and maybe install some kind of pump kit on the front, bottom end where the legs currently live. Maybe use the slide for the ridiculous top sliding section to seat parts for a pump kit to link back to the regular priming bar. It would probably still be not that great, but at least it might land in the realm of usability.

i can see that being used for some form of game mode where you have some set amount of health and when you have it fully extended you deal double damage at the expense of a bit of mobility, or maybe if your doing some sort of turn based thing like larp d&d wit nerf guns the extended part could be some sort of special attack that does more damage than usual, or if you want just a sniper camping mode

How were the darts good? The older darts came out harder but they were less aerodynamic...giving up accuracy for performance doesn't make sense if the darts is actually aerodynamic it should exit the chamber with more force...there is a design flaw in all mega dards...they soften easy and then shrink for one

Built in pump grip. All you need is to aluminum arms to connect the handle and bolt. There is also a button that would probably be easily modded in the well that lets you remove the clip. See Justin's review and internals guide on MTB for more info/ideas.

I wouldn't mind owning this blaster, however, I mod these things for cosplay and occasionally for low budget films. The aesthetic is good; reminds me of some of the guns from Mass Effect. I'll mod the bolt to be much more streamlined, and get rid of that god awful harmonica...clip ( is it a clip if it doesn't detach)?

Pulled one from the box at my local walmart aussie. Staring down the barrel its a very nice looking muzzle break, but i agree 100% about the bolt stroke, accordion clip and general fps of the nerf. Visuals, 8/10. practical 3/10. Converting it to something more potent and securing that extension in place would make this a "possible" imho

Hey drac the Clip/Magazine Bar is easy to remove with a small screwdriver its just a single tab in the magwell. Thought you might like to know that so you can store it easier :D maybe potential for removable clips by modifying that part as well.

I dunno why but I kinda like this blaster. I'm more of the collector-plinker that likes the looks and gimmicks of them and this looks like some kind of sci-fi railgun that feeds its slugs via the clip.

Swap the spring out for a Worker Retaliator spring. May have to trim the new spring just a bit. However, this puts much strain on the pullback part attached to the back end of the plunger, so consider designed and printing a replacement. I got lazy and coated mine in epoxy resin but it's held so far. For the clip, remove the orange spring-locks in the clip well. I recommend removing the center and leftmost (when pointing the gun away from you) locks, as this will allow you to quickly shove in the clip from the right and have it stop at the first round, or shove the end of the clip in from the left and then pull it back so that it stops at the first round, again. When putting it back together, make sure that the priming handle is pushed all the way forward (the spring of the clip-slide mechanism will be pushing back) and then place the gears in or else you may be taking it apart again because the priming handle doesn't pull the plunger back far enough to cock. The extending barrel... shroud?.. is useless but the overall aesthetic is somewhat pleasing if you want a gun that feels like a heavy assault rifle from Aliens or something. Otherwise, it has the potential to be a pretty good modded blaster but is hampered by its size, and a Falconfire with only a 7kg spring will give you better accuracy, range, and force.

I own this and it’s in my top 5 best Nerf blasters easily. Call me a noob if u want but I love this blaster. I personally am an indoor nerfer so maybe that’s why the range doesn’t bother me. Super fun and super cool. Favorite Nerf blaster of Fall 2018. Yea, I like this more than the Prometheus. Does that make it better than the Prometheus? No, but I personally see no reason to have that much ammo in my Nerf wars. It’s just an unnecessary amount, does that say the Prometheus is bad? Hell no, that’s like one of the best Nerf blasters every made. Just my opinion. Love the Thunderhawk.

Personally I tend to prefer clips, or even better yet cylinders, over magazines. They're easier on the darts in the longterm and they're less prone to jam. Better yet, you can reload them on the move...though admittedly the Infinus is offering magazines that benefit as well, and even as a springer I gotta admit that's cool.
