Good luck on Nrwgn language. I don't learn too many langs at the same time. I prefer to perfect my language to B2 level minimum before jumping to other language. Currently working on French for like 1 year, right now at B1 beginner stage or strong A2 level. French is the first Romance language I am learning so its taking time to sit in my head. Planning to take my French to C1.

Hi lindie! I can’t remember the exact website, but the US government has lots of resources for Arabic and I believe that they have gulf Arabic available. But I do think it will be easier for you in the long run to start with MSA and then once you’re comfortable focus on a dialect. Written material is so much easier to find in MSA.

oh man I know how you feel looking for Gulf Arabic resources. I'm from Kuwait and am Arab but I spoke only English at home and live in the States now. I wish I had tips to give you but I try to get by on memories of how my family speaks and asking my dad. Looking for spoken media in dialect (show/song) and gulf you tubers is the only way I know how. Going at it from a linguistic perspective can be helpful? Gulf Arabic has sounds foreign to Arabic (ch), and replaces certain sounds with others because of shifts over time (voicing g instead of q for example). For Modern Standard/Quranic resources, the only one I'm familiar with is the Madinah Arabic Reader book series which really helped me when I was self-studying, but it requires knowledge of writing and speaking and doesn't explain everything, which worked for me as I had background and only needed a refresher at the beginning but might not work for you. I am currently taking college classes in Arabic! Unfortunately they only teach MSA and Egyptian/Levantine. Egyptian flies over my head and I get it mixed with the Gulf I know, but MSA is a good place to start, yea? If it helps, the textbooks we use for those are: Alif Baa - Intro to arabic sounds and letters (I didn't use this myself because it was for the beginner class and I tested out, but it has a lot of exercises to practice) and Al-Kitaab fii Ta'allum al-'Arabiyya books (They can be pricy but this is what we mainly learn from and also has a lot of practice exercises, though there is a student/teacher version I think?). I wish I could give you more help but as you said resources are a bit tight, especially with dialect. Arabic is my main language goal since I was old enough to realize my lack of fluency ostracized me from my peers and relatives, so I'm never gonna give it up no matter how tough it gets. I admire you, I've watched you and though about your tips when I took German in high school, and when I dabbled in Korean and Japanese for fun, and when I was toughing through Arabic and my shame associated with it for years. I wish you luck in (re)learning the Arabic alphabet and your other goals, :)

this is EXACTLY how i feel!! I'm trying to learn Arabic but then I wanted to really polish my Turkish and Portuguese. oh and my 4th language of this year is Korean, so i'm not sure how to do that because some people try a '3 language routine' every day for a month, others devote a week to a language like a 1 week 'boot camp' and then there's the idea of splitting the year up into 1/4's and so, like first 3 months do one language, next 3 months another, what method do you think is best? well anyway just wanted to say I can totally relate ;-)
@irinaspalve8356 Жыл бұрын
@@sheeliekittie9298 oh... I forgot to mention Korean 🤣. I even have a course to go through. But... lately I wasn't able to study at all. First some issues regarding my health put me in a nervous state, so I couldn't concentrate, then all these holidays and preparing food for celebrating, looking for presents etc. I don't think it is a good idea to split year between languages, especially, if your level isn't good. But I guess I am not the best person to give advices. I am a mood person, if I feel I can't do this language today, I won't do it. I will read something in other language or just do other things I like/want to at the moment. Though I have recourses - courses, books to read. And if I start reading/doing one book/course, I just keep doing it. Maybe not everyday, but constantly.

Korean and Chinese are my focus languages in 2023. I have acquired Japanese (C2+) and Chinese is up to B2 so I'm thrilled to learn that "more than half of Korean words are Chinese-originated loanwords" (Comrie, The World's Major Languages, 2018). I can already read hangul and am quite familiar with the SOV pattern, postpositions, and verb declensions, which are similar in Japanese.
