Honest talk! Can I get through June without buying a single doll? (A FOMO VR to Candy)

I'm 63, I started collecting Barbie dolls in 1986 as an adult. I have gone through so many phases in those 38 years, I even took a 16 year break from 2002-2018. :) I started out collecting Mod Era dolls and the 1990s pink box dolls. I kept the vintage but donated all of my 1990s dolls to The Salvation Army in 2002. Today, the majority of my dolls are Ebay fix it dolls from 2000 to 2014, and a few Fashionista dolls. To tell you the truth, I've probably gotten more joy from my rag tag orphans that I cleaned, redressed, and cobbled back together, and I love all of the Amazon grab bag doll clothes assortments to make new outfits. :)

My birthday is in June, so I'm buying stuff in this month but then I'll have a break on July and August. Anyway, I realize more and more than I prefer a curated collection, spending money and time on stuff that I really want and love. I'll talk about this in one of my next videos. This honest talk does resonate with me. As a collector I do love seeing other collectors possessions, but the reality is that my lack of space is holding me from acquiring all that I see on video. Right now there are several dream houses fully furnished in my area, but not having the space for one is preventing me from spending the money. So I simply cherish the memories of playing with my sister's dream house. :)

Hello, first off love the earrings and the dolls that are having a drink on the roof top. I agree with you. You just purchase a doll from Mattel and out pops another one. Can't keep up! I'm with you on this I too will try to not purchase anything in June as well. In Canadian dollars if is so costly. I would love to see more of your collection. Can't wait to see what is in the bag! It'll be fun to think of all the videos you can make with the dolls and supplies you already have. Time for show and tell! Pick a doll or two a week or however often you want to make a video and tell why you love it and whatever else comes to mind. How you organize all your doll stuff would be great! I'm always open to learning new ways to care for and store my collection. I can see where all month would be a challenge. I can do the no dolls for a month but no doll accessories would be the bigger challenge for me. I've narrowed down my list of dolls I still want to a few 80's Barbie's I remember playing with at a friends house that I loved and want to add to my collection. I'm in no hurry for those, it would just be fun and I still want to get the holiday dolls for Christmas. It's super sweet your husband supports you and your doll collection!

I made a doll purchase on the 1st before I watched this video 😂. But I will join you starting today. My only caveat is that if any of my Integrity preorders pop up I have to pay for them. I did the FOMO shuffle in the beginning of my collection. I can go through everything and see what will stay. I bought G3 Frankie Monster Fest. I realized, thankfully, that I don't need to buy because of hype. I stick to my own guns on what I like. Don't let others sway your decisions. We don't all have or need the same collection. I love seeing variety in this community ❤

Yes I think most collector's feel FOMO but your points were spot on 😎 I too have so many dolls that I'm not enjoying at all 👎 Wow, I was actually thinking of doing the same thing this month so I think I will join ya 😃 I've done way too much damage this year when it comes to buying dolls & toys and it's only June 😔 I really need to stop but since I know it'll be very hard to do so, I'll only buy if it's with my own money which I can make by selling some items ASAP 👍 But I will not buy if I'd be spending my hubby's money, especially since he has told me to stop buying 😞 I don't have a paying job so I feel like I have to justify every item I buy 🤔

I’ve been decently good at cutting back lately, but then today I went to the flea market and found 7 almost complete g1 monster high dolls for 12 euros 😳 It’s a lot of new dolls but yikes! Anyway, always love creative video ideas people come up with when they’re not just doing hauls - and you’ve had some great ones. Good forward to seeing more!

Let’s call it curating your museum by inventoring and reviewing what you have collected. You have made me think. Daiso opened up a store yesterday and I am dying to get in and buy the doll and clothes they carry. But I really won’t have time to enjoy her or play with her. I have other dolls and purchases from thrifts that I made on June 1st to conider. A break would be good. I will not think of it as all or nothing. Njust a slowdown to where I can comfortably enjoy what I have. I can ponder this because my neighbor who is one year older (61) died suddenly of a heart attack. Yep, I need to slow down and enjoy. Wow, I also thought of doing a no-buy June, mostly because I wanted to put that money towards a dehumidifier, but then I remembered I had just pre-ordered 2 blind bjds earlier that day so I've already messed up. I still agree with enjoying the dolls one has instead of finding a new thing to get that dopamine hit. I don't practice it like the should but I agree with it.

I have watched Candi's video too & it does resonate with me right now. I was having Fomo with Rainbow High because all the articulated ones are done & going up in price. I'm ok with what I have now & also am planning to make June at very low doll buying month. I have 3 dolls on the way that I purchased last month. So hopefully those will come & replace my need to buy. Thanks for sharing this video. I agree we need to take breaks & enjoy the dolls we already have.

I am also having a little adjustment! I don't want to buy dolls new in shops for a while (for as long as I can... the longer the better!). Only in carboot sales during the carboots season. I am looking for clothes and accessories in priority. I don't collect G3, only the ones I really like. It is easy for me as I am running out of space. They are expensive here in Europe, it helps reduce the temptation and there are not that many releases here either. G1 are my ghouls anyway! I am secretly waiting for G3 to turn up in boot sales! It will take a while! lol I have bought far too many dolls since Christmas. It has been a bit insane. They were reduced and they are going to be discontinued (Shadow High dolls) so you know, d i s c o n t i n u e d, we need to buy them while we can and bla bla bla... but it has been a bit too much. I end up stressed by so many purchases and it has a reverse effect. I feel like I am "possessed"!! 😲😱🤣 A slave to consumerism! And where will I put them? 🤔😒🙄 If you only collect the Queen of the Nile in G3, it will minimise the damage! And yes, you can do it! "You got the power!" 😁🤗

@@kadawalden I was not going to buy any new dolls for June....but then I watched the movie Gone With The Wind.....to my surprise a company called World Doll made dolls of all of the major characters in the movie....the dolls are just like Barbie dolls but I like them better because they look like the actors instead of Barbie and Ken trying to look and dress like the characters .....I ended up buying....Scarlett....Rhett....Ashley....Melanie all at once and the prices were all under twenty five dollars each. I am still on the fence if I will get more of them....such as old Mr. O'Hara and Belle Whately.....these are some great looking dolls with great period outfits....after this I will try not to purchase any dolls during the summer....once again I will TRY not to buy any during that time.

I love love to hear stories behind each vintage doll that you own as well. Even if you repurchased a childhood doll that you currently own, please tell us your memories behind the doll. Now I have a question for you……………………My collection of out of box dolls are vintage Barbies from the late 70s until the early 90s. I currently have 13 and display them on a small shelf in my bedroom. I so enjoy coming into my bedroom, laying down and admiring them. So here’s my problem, my daughter recently moved out into her own place and now I have her room vacant. I’m thinking about making that entirely Janet’s Barbie room, However that’s not a room I would hang out in everyday like my bedroom lol. I think I would miss seeing them so often. Do you have a room thats strictly a doll room that you spend time in or do you have dolls in other places of your home? I don’t know what the heck to do? I’d love to hear your thoughts!!!!! 💃✨💃🏽

I love your questions, I can so relate! I completely revamped the downstairs to be a dollroom (new paint, new lights, new shelving, moved furniture; the whole 9) - but I *never* hang out there. At first I had a bunch of dolls down there, but, like you, I couldn't stand not seeing them. So I moved allllll my dolls back into my office where I'm at every day. But! I kept all my doll *things* downstairs in the doll room - playsets, clothes, furniture, vehicles, accessories, etc. So maybe something like for your Janet Doll Room? (I did a video about that 10 months ago called "Messy Doll Room Overhaul". I actually need to do it again! 🤪) There's also a video of all my childhood dolls, I think 3 months ago, called "Why I Became An Adult Doll Collector." I love that you can appreciate all of this, Janet 🥰

I was so with you this morning when I first watched this vid but then i went to an estate sale 🙈. It was the second day and i got there an hour AFTER they opened and people were everywhere! I was sure the Barbies would be gone. They had them at the checkout table and i was offered two small bins for $80 - 12-14 vintage 60s-70s barbies, skippers, kens and the other bin all vintage clothes! Already budget of $100 nearly blown 🤯. I think for now I am focusing on not purchasing new barbies unless there are on clearance or deeply discounted sales I still want to check out savers only if i have a coupon or its discount Thursday. @@kadawalden yes I did grand total with tax came to 106.97 she’s missing the magazine and the bracelet but since I can make jewelry, I’m not too worried about replacing it with a hand made one and thank you, I normally only go to this antique store once in a while, and had intended to go to the flea markets but my Barbie senses tingled when I got close and wandered around until I found the scent so to speak I turned the corner and made an audible gasp, my husband said get her so I did the name of the booth was just wanna have fun lol I now have 7 silkstone dolls, she was holy grail of mine too, I remember going to fao Schwarz as a kid during the holidays in the 90’s and getting a teddy bear and to have her is such a treasure she will never be sold lol I did just purchase more Disney classic dolls too

Yeah I don't have Fomo. Why would I life too short for that, plus I always find the doll I want eventually and even if I don't oh well I have many already I get to enjoy. FoMo to me is an interesting thing I can't quite understand people having,but I know people actually go through that because I have personally had to talk people down I know who would freak out because they were broke when the doll they wanted was due to release.
