Fun fact, blade is british in the comics, not even kidding. And his girlfriend is a speedster vampire aristocrat who fought in WWII along side king namor of Atlantis & captain america and was de-aged from her 80s to her 20s thanks to a blood transfusion from the andriod human torch. Look it up. Comics are weird.

Ice skating uphill is a fool's errand. Challenging Blade is a fool's errand. He's wondering why some people are dumb enough to challenge him. It's not that hard. It's weird that people struggle with that line.

Thank you so much for giving Blade the credit it's due! I listen to your show all the time and I was at the point of wanting to ask why Blade wasn't ever talked about as being the actual beginning of Marvel making good movies. Your show is always educational and entertaining. Thank you very, very much for reminding everyone Blade was the beginning of it all and showing it some love.

Never thought the ice-skating line was confusing. I always took it as someone trying to be different and get ahead by doing something idiotic. These vampires thought they were special, but Blade's seen it done better and more efficiently, ergo, skating downhill instead of uphill.

Thanks for reminding me of that phrase. That is how I took the context of the ice skating line. It can also be seen as a Sisyphean task. Blade is the best and the vampire will always fail when he comes after them, no matter how hard they try.

The story behind that line. Wesley Snipes made a joke using that line on set off screen and the writter thought it was the coolest thing ever so he put it in the movie despite Snipes laughing and telling him it was inappropriate and a silly line for the seen. They decided to keep it in anyway despite this.

a year after watching this video and watching that line in Blade, I just realised, ice skating uphill is almost physically uphill because gravity would overpower the friction-glide (I think), so what I think Blade's saying is "someone's always trying to reach an impossible goal despite how stupid it is" ? Yes?

In defense of the same master plan for all of the vampires. Blade is immune to their weaknesses and they do “Burst into flames at the slightest touch of silver, garlic, or sunlight.” So they would want his blood to avoid being the worst vampires since Twilight. Lol Also, the ice skating line is one of my favorite movie lines of all time! Top 10 easily.

I also love the first two Blades I don't know what they were thinking on the 3rd one. The ice skating uphill is a very simple line to get. "Uphill" means top and Frost wanted to be a vampire God and be the top of vampires and humans. He used the ritual to try climb the top easily, even though ice skating isn't easy, that is what Blade was implying.

It's definitely Justice League. They said that it's a superhero flick, referenced the "Unite the League" advertisement slogan, and also referenced the "Come Together" Beatles song cover used in the trailers. So hopefully a recently resurrected Henry Cavill shows up to stop them, or else there'll be a crap-ton of DC apologists in next week's comments.

SJNews I'm not sure guys if you gonna read this, but I read "that line (uphill skate) wasn’t in any version of the original script. It was just something a screenwriter overhead Wesley Snipes saying while casually talking to a friend on the phone, in full Blade costume. After overhearing the line, the screenwriters hastily added it to the script because shit, it was better than anything they’d written up to that point."

All those comments about vampires dying easy, but the first movie tried to set it up so that that wasn't the case. That each vampire tended to have its own weakness for the most part. One of the guys he fought at the rave Blade had "killed" several times before, but hadn't found the way that stuck yet. On some, garlic works, on others silver, some need to be decapitated, and so on. Though they do all share the sunlight weakness... and that's what leads to sunlight grenades and all of them dying easy ;)

Let's be clear, Goyer sucks ALL THE TIME. The only reason people thinks he might not is because he leeches credit from better directors and writers that he works with (like Nolan). Look at ANYTHING Goyer has does where he actually had any real power and it's total trash. Blade 1 was ripped from John Semper Jr's Spider-Man The Animated Series scripts. Avi Arad read Semper's scripts and then gave them to Goyer to make a movie out of. (John Semper Jr. is the one responsible for creating the modern Blade as everyone knows him. Before Semper's Spider-Man TAS scripts, Blade was just a human. Semper turned him into a vampire/half-vampire/quasi-vampire thing, which obviously became the movie and then later got written into the comics and became so well known that it virtually erased human Blade from everyone's memory.)

People are mainly excited about the *cast* of Black Panther being predominantly African American (gleaning from the promotional material, there are only 2 white actors in starring roles). This subversion of representation is what has people excited and has people extolling BP as being a "Black led" movie. Granted, Blade was a pioneering blockbuster in its own right. But in terms of casting, Black Panther is looking to out-perform the blackity-black factor of Blade by a power of 10. And *that's* the exciting part.
