Love this. I went to the rerelease a couple of days ago, and man, was it fantastic. The CGI still holds up, and it made me appreciate how much work they put into it. I felt like a kid watching it for the first time all over again. And that semi-post-credit scene that allowed us to see a clip of the second one got me hyped!

yo, this film is super problematic with its literal white saviour narrative and aliens coded like nonwhite people from the colonial era. if that kind of criticism makes you uncomfortable enough to call it "mean-spirited" maybe you need to educate yourself on where these criticisms come from, who is making them, and the long and problematic history of stories like avatar.

I saw Avatar 3 times in IMAX and the guy from Grandma's Boy was my favorite character. Watch the movie again and see how many changes he goes through. At first he is jealous of Sully and then becames angry and then grows into a hero at the end. Very underrated character.

"Lord, help me channel Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side." Avatar is a perfect white saviour movie. For example, Jake is the one who tamed the beasts even when the most experienced Na'vi could not. First, he goes on to save the entire Na'vi. Secondly, the film doesn't just produce a white saviour, it gives us a white messiah. In the end Jake becomes more Na’vi than the actual Na’vi on Pandora. In conclusion, it's a journey about white self-admiration.

This movie is pretty much forgotten. I bet the next films bomb. Avatar was interesting from the point of view of the technology at the time, but now it's been done. The first film was 13 years ago and I think that's too long for a people to have an interest in a sequel.
