The level of racism in Queen Charlotte's time must've been much better than how it is in our current life rn. That's why by the time Bridgerton takes place, everyone is pretty much blind to each other's races.

The corset stuff is nonsense though. In the Regency era, they didn't wear corsets tight laced like that. The gowns all fall from the bust and are not tight around the waist, so there would be no point in making the waist smaller. Instead, what they had was like a wonderbra style undergarment that lifts the chest.

I heard on Twitter that a good explanation for all the colorblind stuff and anachronisms is that it is a long-running regency ren faire type deal where they *really* get into character and that makes the show so much more entertaining than if it were played like an alternate universe or whatever where the British had participated in the slave trade despite Queen Charlotte being black.

It's not meant to be historically accurate, just give you the feel of a time period.
