Agreed! So ridiculous. I got made fun of once for saying a cartoon could be more realistic than live-action, and I still believe it. How realistic is it for a person to teach themselves to the point of mastery? The cartoon did a much better job of implying Katara's progress, and she didn't just proclaim herself a master; she earned it from Master Pakku through persistence and determination.
@jhedjoardumago76918 ай бұрын
@@cinderbelle22the people of the Northern tribe called her master Katara even after losing to Pakku. It shows she's gifted enough, she just needed guidance. In the animated she got it from the scroll, Aang's advise, bending underground water, and actual battle experience.

yeah, that annoyed me so much, bending seems like something you would need to be taught properly and her just proclaiming that when we haven't at that point actually seen her do really any training apart from making a water bubble and curternly no training from anyone else (that one line from anng doest count) just seemed redicouls. im sure there are prodigies that require less training but they would still need to be taught by someone and katara didn't really seem like a prodigy with how she had trouble on this show making water move at all in the beginning.

I dunno if telling is always required. One of my favorite villains of all time is so damn good because they never tell you how and why he thinks the way he does. His decisions felt like they made sense but they were still surprising. I've seen a dozen different reviews who all had a different explanation for how he came to be what he was or even what his sexuality was, whether he actually cared for people or not at all. What made that villain so special was exactly the just not telling anything. The author even cut a chapter from the official release because it revealed too much.

The scary part of how rushed this feels is when you realize that book one of the original has roughly the same runtime
@heitoroliveira51668 ай бұрын
It's because live action and animation has different timings to convey the same things and emotions. Also, the biggest problem with this show is structure. Is different to writte 8 episódes from nothing, intended to be a TV Show from the beggining transform 20 episodes into eight. Because they are little stories, with each other having their own arcs and serving to especific propurses. So they need to desconstruct all episodes and resconstruct the storylines to make it fit to the eight episode netflix estructure. And i think they did a really great job with it. Their problems lie much more in bad dialogue, excessive explanation and minor changes so the narrative fits the hollywood patherm of storytelling that usually fucks the characters unintencionally. But i think mostly of mainstream media, specially netflix shows and blockbuster movies, suffer from this problems. I think this show can get better and better and we may have a really great final season.

Whoever the casting director for Team Avatar was, hats off to you because they nailed Sokka. From mannerisms to physical comedy, he was pulled straight from the animated series. Despite my problems with his storyline, the actor never felt out of place.

For all of its problems, I enjoyed this first season of the series and hope they get to finish it out. There were a lot of things I liked about it, but the point at which they completely won me over was with the music during the flashback to Iroh and Zuko at Iroh's son's funeral.
@AlarnaM-248 ай бұрын
they played leaves on the vine, instrumental style, that iroh sings in tales of bah sing say on the anniversary of his sons death. i think one of the only good things about the new show was iroh and liked that scene too, it added some nice backstory to iroh and zuko and there relationship.
@ethankillion7868 ай бұрын
The guy they got to play Sokka is a dead-ringer for the original cartoon, so that's impressive. Zuko is also great at portraying that abused kid with deeper layers and deep rooted anger issues. I hope there's a Book 2 because that's when those characters become more important

My eyes rolled so damn hard when Katara attempts to flex "you're looking at her." They don't show her learning a goddamn thing but suddenly she's a master? God forbid there's a female character who has to, ya know, fail, struggle and/or seek advice from someone more experienced than them. Nope. She's just "so naturally gifted" now.

It is funny that for the last two episodes they had much more screen time than the original show but it still felt more rushed. In the original they arrive and Katara has her stand of with Pakku, while Sokka has his lovestory with Yue and the cut to the siege of the north gives the viewer the feeling that they have been at the north for some time now, making Kataras Powers much more believable.

We tried watching this with our parents who didn't know the original... we gave up after the episode in Omashu and started watching the original xD The entire PTSD and excessive use of showing people getting burned alive was a weird version of "less goofy" and a bit of a turn off! Considering they're limited by Netflix only giving them 8 episodes per book/season, and a limited budget, I think they did a pretty good job all things considered! Though I do agree the dialog needs changing. What they say is fine, but having live action people deliver the lines exactly how the animated did doesn't translate well if you use it too often.
