First time I watched Blade Runner: I was 5-6, and had just seen Star Wars for the first time through the re-releases. My dad said, "this is one of my favorite movies, you like Han Solo right?" Puts in Blade Runner where I had no idea what the hell was going on and ended up falling asleep. I like the movie now and appreciate him wanting to share something with me, but Blade Runner is not for 5 year olds dad.

Similar story. Mum bought me the VHS for my birthday when I was young because it had Harrison Ford. It bored the hell out of me. I actually couldn't understand why they would make a film with almost no story full of long scenes where nothing happened. She thought the same thing. Appreciate it more these days, but still not a huge fan.

@LoStInThEmUsIc55 6 жыл бұрын
the book is one of my favorites, I like the movie but the book is much better. Basically the deal with the electric sheep is that it means two things. The protagonist in the book really wants an animal because it's a sign of wealth in this world with so few animals left, and so he dreams of having an animal of his own. Him taking the job of hunting down the replicants is largely influenced by his desire to purchase his own animal. So, do androids dream of electric sheep, indicates both "do they have dreams like humans do, regarding the counting sheep thing" and also "do they dream of a better life, do they have goal and aspirations that guide their actions."

2:30 2049 had balls when it revisited that mystery and said: it didn’t matter anyway. When you pause to ponder it, of course Deckard’s “realness” wouldn’t matter to his role in the plot. When Joe asks if his dog is real, he responds “I don’t know. Ask him.” Profound, inspiring stuff.

@@kumarsnehal1008 EXACTLY. The pacing is slow because it forces us to look at and think about this world. I'm not arguing that the movie doesn't have it's flaws, but the most common complaints often come from a lack of introspection. It's a beautiful film with stunning/groundbreaking visuals, a valid criticism of modern society, and a storytelling style that allows for deep thought and self-analysis, something I rarely find in big-budget media.

The story is meh. The whole romance with the lady replicant and declared was forced and wasn’t compelling. And I don’t get why if a sci fi story asks a hypothetical question about the future it gets praised when really it doesn’t matter whether or not you bring up a topic like that, it’s more about how you explore it, and I feel like Blade Runner hardly explores any of the “questions” it’s asking or their implications. Visually though, there are a couple of shots that I really enjoy but everything else was standard rainy foggy cyberpunk street or apartment. Watching this now is kinda boring because of all the cyberpunk tropes it has visually and story wise. Sure, it established these tropes, but it’s still redundant to watch. Even in the context of watching this before cyberpunk was a thing, I feel like it would get redundant too.

And this is what made Blade Runner such a classic. Not only cos it was so gritty but also because it portrayed a far more realistic view of the future than what we'd previously seen in Star Trek and all those other ridiculous space series up to that point (you know those ones with all the ultra-modern, aka 70s, clothes and decor 🤣); the technology mixed up with the old, the continued social problems etc. This is how we see good SciFi now

It's a beautiful movie. Easily one of my all-time favourites. And that's all someone should care about. Everyone else's opinion is simply of secondary importance to your own when it comes to judging your own enjoyment of something. You're the only one giving their opinion any real weight in that regard. The sooner people understand that the sooner they can stop pointlessly fighting in the comments.

Dear Screen Junkies, Please don't get rid of honest trailers. Regardless of the views that they get, they are loved by so many people, including me. They are the one thing that gets me through the week, along with so many other fans. When Paul Walker died, did they cancel Fast and Furious? No. They had an emotional tribute to him at the end of Furious 7. When Mel Gibson did not work at Mad Max: Fury Road, did they shutdown production? No. They replaced him with Tom Hardy, who plays the character much better (considering the film has a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes). When Hugh Jackman did not want to play The Wolverine anymore, did they stop making X-men movies? No. They killed him off in an very emotion way, as a heartfelt goodbye to the character. When Steve Jobs died, did they shutdown Apple? No. They honored him as much as they could then, and they still have now (iPhone 6s, Apple Watch, The Steve Jobs movie (2015). I'm not saying that Andy is like any of those people (what he did was extremely wrong and inexcusable. But if something works, like honest trailers, for example, then do not "throw the baby out with the bath water". Many people still love honest trailers, (I have been watching ever since I found out about Screen Junkies), and they mean so much to them. If not, then how is it that they get millions of views every time you release one? (That alone should show you how much these videos mean to people). I'm confident that you guys will continue to do an amazing job with these trailers, (if you end up continuing to do them), and that many more people will continue to follow you, in the future. You have some excellent writers with Honest Trailers (Dan Murrell, Spencer Gilbert, who by the way are extremely talented and funny), and tons of fans who love what you do. Do not let me tell you what to do, I am just 1 fan out of thousands, that love your shows. But please remember this: "The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few." - Spock & Kirk, 'Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan (1982). (Many is all of us and Screen Junkies, The Few is Andy Signoire, who, after what he has done, does not deserve to have a say, in whether Honest Trailers should continue. Love, Jedidiah Elias

True! and I agree with you. Unfortunately, Andy IS the creator of honest trailers (he was always credited as such). He was fired from the company that produced the shows, but I believe he still has ownership of the title and concept. They are now probably deciding what to do, trying to get Andy to sell it to them, maybe. But I guess he doesn't want to, 'cause what else would he do? But he can't continue on his own with honest trailers because nobody would watch it after what happened. I wish he would sell so we could have honest trailers back without him. Like you said, we have Dan and Spencer, and we even have Roth for the news. They could totally continue without him.

The term blade runner was not taken from Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep but from another book confusingly titled Bladerunner: A Movie. That title referenced an earlier work of dystopian Sci-fi published in 1974. In The Bladerunner, in the distant future of 2009, the government requires people seeking healthcare to get sterilized, for if they are sick they obviously are too weak to live (think if ICE managed our healthcare system). To circumvent this, doctors have set up an underground network held together by bladerunners, who are, shockingly, runners who run blades. “Blade,” back then, could refer to syringes (I think, I’m not a doctor). They smuggled medical supplies between providers. The book’s conflict comes from an outbreak of meningitis in NYC, which forces bladerunners to put others’ lives and freedom before their own. In short, it’s a cool name for an even cooler job. I like the idea that people have to smuggle life-saving drugs instead of “spice,” but that job could only exist in a world one level above Hell.
