The Simpsons Movie came out at the exact right time for me to love it unconditionally, and it gives me that sweet sweet dose of nostalgia to when I was 10 years old and had to petition my mom for months to let me see the PG-13 movie. Nothing you guys complained about is unfair or untrue, but I can't ever stay mad at the movie that gave me some of my purest in-theater laughs of my life.

When I was in Spain a while back, I told a guy that I didn't like fast food and have never seen the Simpsons. He looked like everything he had ever learned about America was a lie. I single handedly broke this man's mind with one short sentence. He said in shock, "But you're American!" "Yes, I know." I said. "And you've *never* seen the Simpsons???!!!" "Nope."

They waited too long to make the movie. By the time they opened the 15 year old "Simpsons Movie Ideas" binder from the mid 90s (when there was actual demand for a Simpsons Movie) they'd already used ALL of the ideas a bunch of times in various guises. They should have handed it to fresh hands.
@88porpoise3 жыл бұрын
Pretty silly to say that there wasn’t actual demand for a Simpsons movie in 2007 when it was the eighth highest grossing film of the year with more than a half million gross. I think the biggest issue is that they didn’t go to a book of movie ideas. They seem to have just grabbed a couple episode idea, joined them together and stretched it out to feature length and stuck in some stuff they couldn’t get away with on network TV. They needed to start building a movie from the ground up.

The problem with this movie and any planned sequel is the old Agents of Shield/MCU dilemma, only reversed - no tension in the movie since the show is still airing...it's not like most Adult Swim shows, where there is proudly no continuity.

Ah a great example of what I hate about Lon. First he's mansplaining what everybody already knows, dumbing down what's already pretty dumbed down. Then, he's complaining about the movie being just an extended Simpsons episode, but if they made a movie he'd complain about the formula that works with the Simpsons is the episodes and you can bet your life he'd say "just take an episode and extend it, why change the formula"
