Sure, Ryan Reynolds gets shit for playing Ryan Reynolds in a movie, but Chris Pine playing Chris Pine would be "PERFECT?" This movie didn't fail because of Ryan Reynolds. The villains were horrible, the suit was hideous, the love story unbearable and the off-Earth scenes rushed. That was the failure, not casting Van Wilder as the star.

This movie's final result was a damn shame. Martin Campbell is a fine director, and I actually enjoyed some of the action scenes he shot, as well as most of the interactions Hal had with members of the Green Lantern Corps (Geoffrey Rush, Michael Clarke Duncan, and Mark Strong were all great in underused parts). The script is so terrible, though, that it just can't be salvaged. The narrator got it right in describing it as something that we would've liked more if it hadn't come out after the Spider-Man/Dark Knight/MCU films, because it feels like something that was written way before those films were released. It's so sloppy and half-baked that it feels like it was meant to be a Pilot for a mediocre Green Lantern TV show.

I agree that in terms of comic books Marvel and DC are equal, but in terms of movies and tv series DC is better because they didn't sell their rights to many companies like Marvel did. The Avengers (movie) only have a FEW people in the team, because X-men is owned by Fox and they don't want to share. But in the Justice League movie, THE TEAM WILL BE COMPLETE.

The post-credits scene pisses me off so goddamn much. So the whole point of the film is that Will totally prevails over Fear, and as such the weakest of the Green Lanterns destroys the EMBODIMENT OF FEAR. And then Sinestro, who is far stronger than Hal with the Will ring, and is well aware that Fear corrupts (IE Testicle head), yet still puts on the Fear ring for NO REASON.

Carmen Blundo But the stuff in the origins movie is basically reset because of the days of future past movie. The last xmen movie allowed for them to make the new deadpool movie the way it should be. Deadpool is no longer the guy we saw in xmen origins because the past has been changed. They realized their mistake and fixed it also, actors -especially well established actors- read scripts before accepting the part. He knew what the script looked like, and he new who was directing the movie and still accepted the job.. so Ryan can still kinda take the blame

The main difference between Marvel and DC *movies* is that Marvel had the idea for a "cinematic universe" first and have since pursued it with more gusto, more investment, and, it has to be said, more creativity. They gambled on GotG and won, for instance; they're not afraid to take some risks, and we the audience have been rewarded. It seems DC is way more terrified of making mistakes; they're wasting time on "safe" stories which have already been told, and writing them via focus group, committing the cinematic sin of trying to appeal to everyone, the result of which is usually terribly ironic. There's also waaaaay too much time between DC films; I'm not sure why. At this point they are being hugely outpaced.

At least, the casual audience didn't know who it was, thus they couldn't have been hoping for it. Joke debunked. I don't know which part of that you didn't understand. Honestly, Thor would be a more accurate comparison as it had a bunch of similar cosmic space visuals, is all around considered to be a better movie and came out roughly the same time as GL. Plus Thor was a better known hero at that point, and so people could have hoped for him.

I'm a big Green Lantern fan. I saw this movie for the first time and thought it was amazing, mainly because my favorite hero finally got a movie.
