Ok this is all true, but I think if anything this movie proves that it doesn't matter if you scrape the bottom of the obcure barrel, have completely ridiculous world, a forgettable villain and even reuse tropes from your own franchise: the right actors, writing and soundtrack (sometimes only 2 of 3) can make a HIGHLY enjoyable movie. I know I went in with the lowest expectations and now it's one of my favorites!

The way a DC fanboy explained it to me is that Marvel specializes in hero's while DC specializes in villains. Marvel heroes have the most character development and are relied upon to drive the plot with the villains reacting to them. In DC the villains have more character development than in Marvel, almost on par or above their own heroes. Thus the plot resides on them to create situations the hero must react to (especially since DC heroes are more over-powered due to their lack of character or interest). In Marvel the hero has to be clever, in DC the villain does. I'm a Marvel fanboy, but I enjoy DC too. This does explain to me though why I always did think the DC villains are so cool and I remember more of them than DC heroes.

I always thought I preferred Marvel to DC because I grew up only reading what the library had (just assorted spiderman and Xmen) but now I'm grown up I realised that most of DC stuff is just really bad. I read some Batman comics (including death of the family because everyone made such a big deal) and I was just really bored, only good part was the bit with Jason Todd. I admit that DC does the cartoons better than Marvel and they also do the better games but Marvel comics are a lot better.

That only really applies to the movies though. If we're talking about the comics, both heroes and villians from both companies recieve tons of focus and character development. That's why fans were disappointed with Ronan's and Malekith's portrayals in the marvel films and superman's and Green Lantern's in DC films; their characters are much more fleshed out in the comics.
