It will make sense now, I'll explain. They needed so many plotlines, because they were planning a lot of spin-off movies based on Spider-Man, there was going to be a Venom movie, a Black Cat movie, a Silver Sable movie, a Sinister Six movie, there was even rumors of an Aunt May movie. Then, this movie didn't make as much money they expected, and all these movies were canned, and Spider-Man went back to Marvel Studios, but Sony now has plans to bring back the spin-off movies.

I know the movie wasn't that great, but I still love the scene where Spider-man tries to talk down Max after he just got his powers. It's rare that a superhero to try to resolve a problem without punching or a villain that isn't just pure evil and violent. I appreciate it for that.

Other than the costume it has nothing to do with the original. He's a Japanese guy who got powers and equipment from aliens to fight monsters. He has a flying car and a giant robot. This is what introduced giant robots into what would become known as the Super Sentai Series. There had been two prior Sentai series with the teams just fighting normal sized villains. After Spider-Man, came Battle Fever J which was originally going to be Japanese Captain America. It had the team made up of supposedly international heroes. The rest is nearly 40 years of teams in multicolored spandex in giant robots.
