Maze Runner is by far the better of the two, primarily because they get through one movie and accomplish what it took the Divergent series almost 3. Plus, the actors in Maze Runner are a shot above these ones, and not to mention the dialogue. At least in Maze Runner they don't overcomplicate their world.

The first maze runner book (and movie) was good. The second one was okay (I watched the film but can only remember the scene where the gang are tied upside down), the third book completely lost me and events tends to get mashed up with the second one in my mind. and I haven't read the 4th. . Divergent kept me hooked the whole time and I enjoyed the books (have only seen the first film but would like to see the others at some point).

One thing I actually liked about the books was that Tris loved Four, but she not once did they have sex because she felt like she wasn't ready, which was a smart move. I looked it up and this is what they are: Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), Erudite (the intelligent), Abnegation (the selfless), and Candor (the honest) If Dauntless were the bad guys you could say it teaches teenagers not to be brave, etc. Either way I don't think it's teaching teenagers that. Teens can be dumb, but they're not THAT dumb to take a movie at face value and assume everything that happens in the movie is what real life is like.

While erudite is the big bad, all of the factions are shown to have some negative qualities. Erudite is the pursuit of knowledge to the point of ignoring the emotional side and not seeing the people behind the facts and figures. Dauntless is bravery to the point of recklessness and being very stone hearted. Amity is peacefulness to the point of not taking action when it is needed, and being happy to stay in their own little bubble, ignorant to what is happening around them. Abnegation is selfless to the point that they lack self preservation. Candor is honest to the point of bluntness and not being able to see the bigger picture (honesty, can't remember much about candor, the main part that comes to mind is when tris confesses about killing will). The message I took from it was that separating people to strongly into certain attributes like that is deeply flawed and ends up exaggerating those negative qualities.

I think those little interruptions where Jon argues about the movie would work better if you didn't actually show him. It's funnier when it's just a voice, like when he's ranting in the "After Earth" honest trailer. For one thing, when you cut to him, it makes the whole thing look more deliberate and scripted, which of course it is, but it still undercuts the comedy a bit. Just the juxtaposition of a disembodied voice petulantly arguing over epic trailer music and visuals makes it seem more spontaneous, which makes it funnier.
