I spent my entire life thinking WaterWorld was a classic...now I'm hearing it was bad? Dude I loved this movie.
@alterbr33d11 ай бұрын
The whole premise of the movie is bad. At the end the tip top of Mt Everest is sticking out of the water so that means the sea level is at about 28,000 ft. They're saying this is because the polar ice caps melted. The average altitude of antarctica is 7,000 ft and the average altitude of Greenland is 5,000 ft and are only at the poles, that is no where near enough ice to melt and cover the world to 28,000 ft. Kevin Costner has gills behind his ears from a natural mutation. The last time our lineage had gills was 375 million years ago. Whales are mammals that went back to the water and didn't develop gills, Mosasaurs are reptiles that went back and didn't develop gills either. If the descendent of a human develops gills, it would probably take 100s of millions of years, and by then they wouldn't look human at all, in fact might not even be mammals anymore. Both the protagonist and antagonist hit that little girl over the head. This movie is just all kinds of wrong.

@Dicelord N Exactly, it was good, not awesome. I dislike when movies get ragged on for not making tons of money as if it's an indicator of it being bad. "The Man from UNCLE" made approximately $0 a few years back, but it's fantastic. I think Guy Ritchie's King Arthur movie was also great, but made no money. This was a high concept movie with incredible sets, but was only good. It's not an easy win as compared to Independence Day or Armageddon or other fluff. But whenever it's on TV, I'll watch it.

There is some strange trend going on lately - people hating on old movies w/o obvious reason. Waterworld is the latest example. The movie, the acting, everything was good. At least much better than 90% of the BS we get today. Every actor and scene builds a believable world. Well yeah, the effects didn't age that well, but for 1995 it wasn't that bad. Same with Space Jam - it was one of my favorite movies as a kid. After all it's A KIDS MOVIE and i remember it being awesome at entertaining me. Still is today, despite me noticing some flaws with the acting. But you have to remember, at that point people weren't that used to film on Blue/Green screen and also... those were some professional sportsmen, not actors.

I wish Hollywood would remake movies like this instead of stuff that's already good. This movie has such a cool premise and good potential, but it wasnt as great as I wanted it to be. I'd be very interested in a remake.

Fun fact: With all of the money from home media releases, Waterworld has actually managed to turn a modest profit.

I've never understood the hate for this movie. It's a fun, silly action romp with some pretty kick ass set pieces and practical effects.
@thebadbandito4 жыл бұрын
I really don't understand why this movie gets such a bad reputation? I always loved it. I love that it just throws you in the world and you gotta figure out where everything came from or how the customs were formed. Also I like that he's not really hero.
@kswone14 жыл бұрын
Waterworld was not terrible!! It's a long standing myth that this movie bombed. It didn't. It was just insanely expensive and impractical to make plus the set burned down at one point but lots of people and critics saw it and liked it at the time it came out. I liked it then and still like it now.

They've mentioned before that doing Honest Trailers about meta movies is really difficult because the movie is already sort of picking itself part, and the original Scream is probably a prime example of that.

@LAKnightAuthor5 жыл бұрын
...why?
@lorenkilldeer82185 жыл бұрын
@@LAKnightAuthor (I guess) Because the book was really good but they failed to make a movie to do it justice. I really loved the Dark Matter Series, and Phillip Pullman is an amazing writer, so it's sad to see that with such a good material they made such a lacking movie. There are some parts of it that I really like, the aesthetic is pretty much on point, but they tried to shot for a sequel and had zero chance with it. Still got an oscar for Special Effects, I believe

Here's to hoping HBO will do justice to the source material.

Urghh... They got so much of it right. It looked beautiful and got the aesthetic right, the cast was excellent, the music... Just what they got wrong was really wrong. Hopefully the BBC series will be good.
