She implemented the "era" pattern into the pop industry and normalized it : the changing of hair color, hairstyle, outfits, music genre for each new album release. It's interesting that you mention this period of her life because she mentioned in her acceptance speech at the billboard awards for woman of the year that the early 90's was a tremendously difficult and lonesome time for her and that she had wished female counterparts in the entertainment industry would have come to her defense and lent her a shoulder to lean on.

Madonna literally PAVED the way for so many artists today especially women, and yet almost nobody acknowledges it. so sad..
@akarinova4 жыл бұрын
They'll unfortunately only acknowledge it once she passes away, considering people tend to bash artists with a huge musical impact until they pass away (examples being Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, and Prince) and there are other huge music artists that are still alive and changed the landscape of music, but they are often not acknowledged for their impact, and tend to get bashed more so than praised (examples being Mariah Carey, Madonna, and Celine Dion) It's the unfortunate reality of the media eating and slaughtering these artists and trashing on them until they've ran out of gas, and then those same people start to praise them for all they've done! It's just an example of how terrible the media can be!

I respect Madonna, but you should also give credit to Mariah Carey for literally fighting everyone around her, including her own husband, just to include hip hop songs on her albums. "Fantasy" was a genre-defying record and introduced hip hop to far fetched countries and white audience of the world. In this decade of the growing popularity of hip hop features in pop songs, Mariah played a huge role. But I agree about Whitney, she did not change her genre much.

@My Name Is Dito she’s never implied that at all! Of course people have varying degrees of sexuality, but on the whole, most of the general population is sexual and most societies have a lot of (very inconsistent and arbitrary) rules which govern this. I totally agree with you. I came out of the closet as a 13 year old at the height of the Iraq War and right after George W. Bush won re-election directly via homophobia by having State Republican parties put Marriage Equality Bans in state constitutions. There are tons of young LGBTQ people who have never known what Madonna was to our community before she became seen as this old woman desperate for attention. The fact is without her speaking on our behalf, drawing attention to all the beauty in our community, and forcing people to have sympathy for AIDS victims, we would likely be further behind in acceptance as a community. She didn't just "steal" gay culture like she often gets accused of nowadays, she was immersed in that culture from her first days as a young woman in New York City hanging with avant garde gay artists like Keith Haring. And I might add her brother Christopher Ciccone is openly gay. Madonna is a narcissist, but what pop diva isn't? At least she had the guts to force people and taboo cultures and subjects into households across the world, and she didn't care if it would be detrimental to her career. Instead, her bravery made her the biggest star in the world for a long time. Anyone who gets to be who they are in public partially has Madonna to thank for that.

It’s true that Madonna is the ultimate queen of pop. I love the different eras (especially Erotica) the way she always focuses on the music whatever she does... all her performances are made to put the music first, the emotion that she wants to convey in a particular song... and what a catalogue of songs she has. Unmatched catalogue I like the fact that no matter if some sing better or dance better, there is no one that can perform like Madonna. She’s in a league of her own, the true queen of pop. Anyone with pop interest should acknowledge that. Madonna will be remembered forever and she should be praised more for her remarkable and unique career. And she’s still relevant, just listen to Medellín or Living for Love, watch the God Control or the Bitch I’m Madonna videos. Time to celebrate this woman who happens to be a real legendary artist, not only because she’s the biggest selling female artist or the higher grossing female artist but also because in the longevity of her career, her catalogue screams that she’s a true and wonderful songwriter and producer, and a great performer. The queen of pop is that.

It’s sad but he brought this onto himself.

"Erotica" has long been my go-to album of hers. I love this record! It's an interesting, diverse record. Especially as I've gotten older, I've come to appreciate it more. A lot of it is about relationships, and it's from the perspective of someone who is older and more experienced rather than new love or idealized romanticism. It talks about issues of communication, the nuts and bolts of maintaining a relationship over time, how people can grow apart gradually, the need for patience, the potential paralysis when deciding if it's wise to stay in a relationship you've been in for a while. It's not devoid or romance, but it's not the main focus. When you've got some experience under your belt, your approach to relationships changes and what you look for is different. Sex and romance are important, but they cannot sustain the thing forever. Hell, even when she's talking about sex, she breaks away from making love under the Parisian moonlight by the billowing curtains thing. Most sex people have isn't like that. It's more grounded than that. Role play does go on, and sometimes it's serious and other times playful. It's a collection or surprisingly grounded love songs in a genre that more often likes to approach the topic from a more poetic and romantic standpoint. I find very refreshing.

The media blew everything out of proportion. The album was really tamed compared to what they were saying about it. I remember buying the cassette when I was about 12 or 13 in the late 90's and thinking, "Why were they trying to black ball her?" I loved the Erotica album then and now. It was about way more than just sex and people weren't willing to look beyond the Erotica music video or the Sex Book. I am happy with how a lot of fans are embracing that era. A lot of Madonna fan pages on Instagram are doing #Justice4Erotica.🙏🏾💙🤗🎶👑💿

She was right in that interview that's 4:30 minutes in. Whilst I may not agree with the sex book, this body of work was not motivated by wanting hype or to further her career. She wanted to encourage acceptance for those barely represented and I agree with the risk she took 😎. Thanks Madonna for fighting for our right do sexy things whichever way we want and with whoever we want.

Madonna is the Queen of Pop for a reason. I have been riding with her since 1986! I am now 41 years old and have been with M for every incarnation and musical journey. I've seen her five times live throughout the years and she never duplicates herself. It is a shame that the youngsters today don't understand or grasp who she is. Madonna's impact on popular music and culture in undeniable. She is the best selling female artist of ALL TIME. I LOVE the Erotica album/Sex book era in 1992. It took a lot of balls to do what she did! Fearless! I can't think of one female artist today who would attempt to confront societal norms as she did with that era! LEGENDARY! Her catalog speaks for itself! She is and will be my favorite hands down! Long life the Queen!

We find Madonna at her most artistically and lyrically potent during the Erotica era. I will never forgive the media and the American public for destroying this masterpiece and shaming her for her artistic vision and sexuality. This album and era would still be ahead of It's time today. If there Is ever any doubt that Madonna Is the greatest woman music artists of all time, just listen to Like a Prayer (1989), I'm Breathless (1990), Erotica (1992), and Ray of Light (1998), and do a deep dive of those eras, and the mythos and Iconography that surround them. No other woman comes close to her full breadth of artistry. Her most formidable contemporaries, Prince and Michael Jackson (both of whom I worship), ran out of creative steam and relevancy after the 80s, whereas Madonna was just getting started. Putting aside her public persona and all of her shenanigans, she Is truly, truly a treasure, poet, creative visionary, masterful vocalist, last of the originals, artistic genius, and the most pioneering female entertainer/auteur of all time. Thank you for reading my thesis. 😊

The album, at the time, was overshadowed by the book. Madonna’s problem was that her younger fans, like myself, had a hard time getting our hands on the album because the book was the STORYYYY periodt. It’s not shock the album stands up and gets the credit it deserves now. Because no one truly was listening to what she was saying and what the album was about then. Fun fact: vanilla ice and Tupac are in the book. Just in case you didn’t know 😉
