The song in question is not something they worry about because literally majority of the time tne meaning will go over their head. Many songs even now I’m still finding out were about sex though I listened to it a lot from the radio when I was younger. Kids don’t understand that stuff and just listen to it enjoying the music. And usually parents aren’t showing these songs to their kids when they’re under nine years old lol. Sometimes they just play it for themselves but don’t mind if their child is around because they know the kid doesn’t get it. Regarding the actual performance most, if not all pop singers aren’t known to be acting out literal sex or sucking dick on stage. So a parent isn’t going to assume Sabrina will do that lol. Normally it’s expected that pop singers strut around the stage or pose. Sabrina has the responsibility to make sure people know what they’re going to see it’s literally her show only she and the people organizing it know what will happen.

She's literally in a bikini top in her cover. Several of her songs are listed as explicit on Spotify. Beyond that, I'm not sure why it's HER responsibility to do a parent's job for them and make sure they're aware of what kind of concert their children might be attending.

The meaning usually goes over kids heads and they just enjoy the song as… Yknow a song. They don’t understand the meaning or what it’s about unless a parent flat out explained it or they’re just extremely intelligent for their age. The issue lies in her performances and that there’s no viewers discretion for it. It’s so fucking easy to just say “hey yknow this isn’t for kids.” That’s all a parents needs. They shouldn’t have to learn it from people who went to the concert or video tapped it, or even worse them going not knowing what she’ll do. It has to come from the creator otherwise it’s just unprofessional on Sabrina’s end.

That's a big reason why Taylor Swift is such a massive seller and despite her political standing, is BELOVED by the conservative, pearl-clutching crowd. She's a white, blonde, all-American woman who isn't overtly sexual and, whether she intends to or not, embodies a lot of the stereotypes of what said pearl-clutchers deem a "good woman" to be. She's rarely sexual and even when she is, it's easy to miss if you're not paying close attention. Most of her big hits don't contain swear words. A lot of her outfits see her covered head-to-toe. She's as non-threatening as an A-list pop star can be, which is interesting since Sabrina is following the more classic pop star model of leaning into her sexuality. I think a lot of people forgot that Taylor is the exception. Most of the household name pop stars were provocative in one way or another

Sabrina’s whole shtick shows how the industry traps female artists. To be taken seriously, women are pushed to sell sex while men get to sing about the same stuff fully clothed without having to act it out. That's sad. There's also the issue of the double standard. If a woman of color did the same thing, people would call it “too much”, "vulgar", or “trashy,” (we've seen it happen!) but because Sabrina’s white, petite, and “cute,” it’s all “empowering” and “fun.” On top of that, there’s no depth to it. Real, good art has layers and invites people to think, but Sabrina’s whole persona is made to sell. She’s riding the wave of what’s popular now, and the second it’s not, she’ll pivot to whatever sells next. She's not authentic and not an interesting artist. People are calling her a good example for women and feminism when she’s just reinforcing the same tired storyline we’ve been stuck with for decades.

I feel like parents need to understand that some songs/artists don't always make kid friendly music. Growing up, listening to radio, I heard songs that weren't kid friendly, but my parents taught me not to cuss or mimic every word of it. And even then, they weren't over the top about, because I feel like they didn't want to seriously limit the music I could listen to.

@Ennaitak6 күн бұрын
I've always been torn on issues like this. No. It's not Sabrina Carpenters' (or any celebritys) job to be a role model. However, that still doesn't change the fact that they are to some people. (Kamala Harris spent millions of dollars on celebrity endorsements for that reason) Yet there is a line between sexy and outright trashy. Sabrina seems to be walking that line now. She clearly knows sex sells and is using that to her advantage but when things are too sexual out in the open, not only are they no sexy anymore but people will become desensitized to it. Not even adults want sex thrown in thwir faces all the time. With that being said, parents need to stop letting celebrities and tiktok raise their children. Do your research on what your kids are consuming and put a stop to it if you think it crosses a line. At the end of the day it starts in the home.

i agree with you but i also do feel like her concert should have some age limit, maybe not necessarily 18+ but at least like 14-16+. obviously it's on the parents too but we all know bad parents are everywhere and age limits at events exist for that reason and should absolutely be put in place for a show with simulated sex scenes. also some of the stuff she has done and said (the recent lolita cosplay photoshoot and other references to it, talking to a little child in the pre-juno scene then doing the same bit and lines about her clothes falling off cause she's so turned on not, the niña and bbc nonsense outros, the whole juno song and more) is really gross, for those things it's not about how 18+ it is it's just morally reprehensible but most of her fans ignore all valid criticism and instead focus on the weird conservative criticisms because they're easier to defend against, and most stans (in general of all celebrities) would rather defend and ignore all criticism to their faves instead of just admitting they're a bit problematic and holding them accountable. we really need to focus more on her pdf baiting

@@theymakefunofmyname-qz4dqI agree. I'd been following Sabrina's music casually before she got big, and she had sensual songs but they felt 'natural'- if that makes any sense? Whereas the short and sweet album feels like a very exaggerated, almost cartoonish caricature. The elephant in the room to me is that when she switched to a new overly- horny persona, that inevitably played a part in her success, because of course sex sells. And I think it's valid for people to have an issue with that, or at least for there to be a conversation about it. Saying that, parents ultimately have a responsibility over what their kids listen to, not Sabrina. Edit: spelling mistakes lol

Why is it that humanity as a whole hates the one thing that gives us life?!! Sex is not a bad thing, feeling sexy isn't , being sexual isn't . Using the word 'over' and attaching it to sex is beyond confusing in this context. When we are young we talk about castles, toys, dress, prince and princesses, as we get older the thoughts shift and for those that want to, their thoughts align in a sexual nature. Because God forbid if Adam had sex with Eve; instead, he just stare at her from afar and boom! Eve is pregnant. Wow.

Sadly, this has to do with a lot of Gen Z being "ultra conservatives", "trad wife/couples" things going out nowadays. 2. Parents thinking that celebs are raising THEIR kids taking no responsibility at all. 3. Misogyny/sexism towards female celebrities, if they write break up songs, it's wrong; it they write glitter gel pen songs, it's wrong; if they write about s*x appeal, it's wrong. People will never be happy. Can we leave the children out of the conversation for the moment? Yeah it isn’t for children, but it isn’t for some Adults either. It isn’t about growing Up; looking at erotic/pornographic stuff is a choice, and pressuring someone to just stick with it or get use to because thats the Music of today is just low low and disgusting. There are people who come to the concert for Music, not burlesque performance, porn hub or Soft porn play. There are Adult who do not like nor chose to go to concerts that are explicit like Cardi’s for example. Being sex positive doesn’t equal being vulgar (Sabrina called herself that literally so before anybody comes for me, she giggles when people give her very not Pg nick names). There were many singers that were in touch with their sexuality/indentity yet never straight Up x rated. Christina,Britney,Cher,2pac,Prince,Ciara,Lady Gaga and many others were Sultry,sesual,vibrant and controversial but never performed sex acts (dancing is not a sex act) like actual copulation on stage like Carpenter did (3some,bj,camasutra positions etc.). Also all of these people were controversial but never tried to hide their lack of talent by sex or nudity. They were amazing musicians,dancers,producers,singers and their Music was selling because they were phenomenal at being musicians. If people just sell sex and Music is just a backround noise to push it forward then why they don’t become Adult actresses? Or perform shows for adults? Nobody held gun to their head telling them to be in Music business when their main focus/message is not Music nor what is pushing their career. And before any of you come for me, i knew and liked Sabrina before you all even know who she is and yes from Music side not Disney. Thumbs and Fast times are amazing songs, Thumbs lyrics in my opinion are one of the most timeless and well written ever. I didn’t hear much about her until Olivia and Joshua controversy and since then Sabrina slightly turned in a different way. She has been doing radio pop for years,she has been doing Music for a long time so why it isn’t successful as the recent one when it is the same? Because of drama. And that is just low. Like girl if you can sing, show it. It makes me sad a little that women still get to the narrative that the only way to gain approval in their Music is to literally go explicit/shady or using other people. Women been Vocal and trying to get rid of the sexual Label Music industry and media gave them that was overshadowing their hard work.The church controversy,the lipsync,the Shawn Camila thing,her vile comments about how she is the reason people fail (the NYC mayor, Catholic preacher,Camila,Olivia,Joshua); everything made in shady, insulting mean way and it worked! Coz if nothing sold sex always will and drama for sure. I love good controversy, but like Cher herself said one time-if the chick comes out naked and sings on stage, i get it i support you 100%; my issue is that it wasn’t good”. Miley had Bangerz era where she was performing using genitalia etc. but she grew out of it and evolved as an artist,realising that controversy will never beat her Flower era or Plastic Hears (which i loooved); she always was a hidden gem, also Gaga is an amazing example how to be proud Queer woman but she serves vocals and is an amazing pianist. Her Judas song and video is Genius and it worked,but people recognise the difference and it happened to Lil Nas X who attempted to use another religion controversy with a come back single J Christ but flopped because the songs were just nothing that could support the usage of religous shock value. Comming to an end,parents should know but its not a hate statement to call her shows disturbing to certain viewers (Carpenter herself gave that disclaimer on her taste video an PAEC sticker on her album so why not concerts, short for sure,short on money? Maybe.) she did EICS and she didn’t performe any sexual acts on stage during that time so its truly an honest question, what changed? She was grown then? Is sex really the last option to jump into fame? Honest question…

We live in such a strange culture where sex is everywhere and everyone is so prudish about it. The older VMA performances outlined here are not the only example of "sexy" content everywhere. Hell, PG movies could show frontal nudity for decades and now PG is designated for kids films almost exclusively. You see sex positivity everywhere online, not to mention all the OF models out there, and yet there's significantly less sexual content shown in movies and on TV now than there ever was. Literally all of Sabrina's provocative performances would have been TAME a few decades ago, so what's changed here? This controversy frustrates me, because it really highlights how women in music can’t win. Sabrina is getting the same comments Britney, Christina, Miley and the like got for owning her sexuality. But it’s also funny that Taylor got dragged into it because she’s a “clean” artist for kids, and Sabrina seems like a contrast, when that’s not true. Taylor isn’t creating music just for kids any more than anyone else. I seem to remember certain people freaking out about Taylor’s bodysuits for specific parts of the show, saying she should also cover up, as if she isn’t wearing ball gowns for more slow portions, and opting for the bodysuits for the more upbeat sets for ease of movement. And whatever you think of her most recent album, it’s the furthest thing from kid-friendly…parts of Midnights too (Vigilante Sh-t comes to mind). It’s like these stars never evolve in people’s minds.
