I don't know how to explain it, but for me Sweetener was like a reset for Ariana. I perceive her as a totally different artist than the fist 3(Your Truly, My Everything and Dangerous Woman), Sweetener, Thank U Next and Positions feel like another persona

sweetener was the first time she became an artist as opposed to just a singer, it was the first time she was involved in the songs and wasn't just receiving already written radio hits to sing.

Ik what you mean and i can understand your pov. People needs to realize that Ariana went through a lot of things during 2017/2018... She had traumas due to the death of Malcom and the Manchester attack. Her music but especially her persona changed and she only wanted to heal... Fortunately she found her love and fans like me show everyday support.

I can just *FEEL* that relationship she had with Pete, and how she says it was unrealistic and a distraction. I feel it so much because it was one of those relationships that you quickly get into after a serious breakup and you havnt had time to heal, so your distracted by this new person who is overflowing you with unrealistic sweet nothings, and because you're so lonley you just stay with them because you dont know how to function on your own. They both seemed like the type to say "i love you" after 2 dates, hence getting engaged after one month. It was a learning experience, not real love.

Seeing Ariana Grande evolve from the kinda stereotypical and often failed avenue of "I'm a former teen star going into music because" to just an ABSOLUTE powerhouse in Pop is truly something special. And I think she should definitely continue experimenting and playing around with different styles of music. She's an icon of our generation, and man I'm glad to witness it. Her octave range and high soprano make her transitions really interesting to the ear. Not only is she a soprano, but FOR a soprano, her lower range is pretty impressive, which is what I think makes 7 rings so fun to listen to. It's different, but not in a bad way. Seeing artists who are mostly known for one thing like TSwift and country break into a completely new genre like Pop or R&B or rap is just incredibly fascinating. It's like when you see a director or actor who's known for comedy go for horror and to your surprise find they do it VERY well. I'm interested to see where she goes next.

I knew she would be a star from the moment i discovered she was originally from broadway! At a young age she was professionally singing on broadway before she got into acting. She didn’t get into singing right after acting like most stars do. Singing was always her thing and that’s how i believe she managed to break the “teen star” cycle.

People do not give her enough props for being one of the most successful popstars from the 2010s despite coming in so late. Establishing yourself in the industry so fast and impressing both listeners and many critics with just 2 consecutive albums (Sweetener and TUN) is the definition of career peak. Not to mention, she's really one of the only "mainstream pop-pop" popstars that makes bold choices in her music.
@judigemini178
@judigemini178 Жыл бұрын
How did she “come late”?She was at a young age in Broadway, then Nickelodeon she had her foot in the door already, then there’s also how she had the actual talent because she can sing, there’s no surprise here...if anything she followed a formulaic path. Sweetener was the boldest of her albums & even then she had a lot of help from titans in the industry like Pharrell, the other albums have all reflected the sonic trend of the time they were released.
@bethanywholivesnextdoor5934
@bethanywholivesnextdoor5934 Жыл бұрын
@@judigemini178 I'd consider her late relative to her popstar peers, so Taylor, Katy, Selena, Miley etc (I'm talking abt music release and charting btw). And thing is, though trap beats were considered generic when TUN was released, her instrumental and vocal pallettes still hold up to be very bold and personalized. I honestly can't find a song like imagine or ghostin. For Sweetener, outside of production, I'd say it was her vocal delivery and lyrical choices that made the album unique. So idk I'd personally give her credit for that. I feel like people expect her to sing so-so ballads and shallow upbeat pop songs so it's great to hear these albums from her

I can't help but feel sorry for Ariana between 2017-20. First there was what happened in Manchester (which COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED), she then lost her ex, her engagement broke down and the media was straight up mistreating her. Despite her success, she was unhappy and I'm pretty sure hardly any of us would cope with that. Break up with your girlfriend, I'm bored is such a good video. It’s amazing how one artist has put out so many memorable smash hits like Side to side, 7 rings, Thank you next, Problem, Focus, Into you, no tears left to cry, and break free, and even more. The only female artist from the top of my head that deliver even close to that are Nicki Minaj and Rihanna. That’s not to mention her features like Bang Bang, Save your tears, and Rain on me. And to think she started as a supporting character on victorious to what she is now blows my mind.

I feel like sweetener was almost that person who tries to be optimistic and wants to look at the brighter side of things. Faking it till you feel better type of thing. But thank you next was that same person in the future coming to the realization that you can’t hide under a smile and you can’t hold your feelings in. Sweetener was trying to be someone it wasn’t and thank you next was telling the world “hey I’ve been through shit, I feel like shit but I’m going to heal from this shit. Fuck a fake smile.” Songs like BUWYGIB and 7 rings reminds me of someone who’s being more selfish with their feelings and needs because they aren’t trying to satisfy the outside world anymore. Even though BUWYGIB could be seen in two different ways. She’s trying to get back to herself because the superstar has been taking up so much space in her life causing her not to feel comfortable with the person she’s become trying to hide the hurt.

She was notoriously known for dropping so many albums and singles it was hard to keep up, maybe she's focusing on her marriage or herself now. Maybe that's the focus now, self love and growth (but I feel like Positions kind of did that already) I'm just curious the direction Ariana is going to go in Or of course she's just taking a break from the media from all of her controversies, that most certainly could be it. First off, I'd like to say how much I'm enjoying this series where you compare songs and give your thoughts on iconic moments in recent pop music. That said, one "fight" I'd love to see your thoughts on is with two Rihanna songs: "Only Girl (In The World)" and "What's My Name". Both songs came out with the purpose of renewing Rihanna's image with the public by presenting a softer and less dark facet -after the somber image in Rated R- and each managed to make Rihanna open up even more space in different directions: dance and urban music. In addition, the two songs charted for a long time together to the point that What's My Name (second single) reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 before Only Girl, which was the first single of the LOUD era -something unheard of until today, if I'm not mistaken. I believe it is a matter of good analysis as it was with Ariana in this video.

I'd say she's definitely a vocalist who can communicate her feelings but in a less conventional way ig. She seems more focused on being real and dark than overly passionate. Most of her adlibs and lyrics in the Thank u, next album were so emotionally charged but it still had that feeling of an intimate conversation. Gotta love it

Sweetener and TUN literally saved her career. Not that it was going downward but if she kept that somewhat generic pop sound, then she wouldn't be the super popstar she is today. Sweetener, TUN, and Positions are great albums. I'm really, REALLY, hoping we get a big ballad on the next album tho. It's been way too long she has the voice for it.

While many see Thank u, next as Ariana’s magnum opus, and I do too, Sweetener is still my fav Ariana album to this day. Here’s to hoping that changes when we eventually get Ariana’s 7th album, because I’d luv to see her lean into the rnb/soul sound all the way as I feel Positions was a step in the right direction, but I still felt she held back a lil. I also hope she branches out and works with other music producers

I’m not a day one Ariana fan by any means. Before Sweetener, I only knew a couple of songs. Her “personal life” from Manchester to Mac to Pete, however was nearly unavoidable. I felt terrible for her. Sweetener came out and I thought it was great. It made me pay attention to her as an artist. By the time Thank U Next the album was released I was a huge fan. Her voice and presence have only improved since, but those albums made me a true Ariana fan.

That's exactly right, if Ariana Grande right now would release DANGEROUS WOMAN album, then «Dangerous Woman», «Into You» and «Side to Side» would be #1 on bb hot 100 all year. But that's exactly how she paved her way with the «Thank you, next» album, that's the merit career defining moment. It's rather her point of inflexion, it was her first #1 NOW SHE HAS 8 #1! Whatever she releases can go #1 because it's Ariana Grande. After how hard it was for her, people made it so extremely hard on her. Before it was: nothing she releases can go #1 because she is Ariana Grande. She pulled a UNO Reverse. But definitely those 3 songs from DW would be #1 completely ruling over. And even more so than the «My Everything» bop songs Problem, Bang Bang, Break Free, (they were almost #1) Love Me Harder and One Last Time. Ariana's fans have a preference for those Dangerous Woman 3 songs and One Last Time.

I like 7r a bit more than buwyg,ib. And MV as well, a bit more. At first i didn't really liked 7r. It took me a year to acually want to listen to it. I acually knew the words of how much i heard it on radio, videos and when my (then) friend play it, so one day in December of that year, i acually played it sang it and danced to it on the street in my neighbourhood with the same frend lol. That's when i realised i love it. Now, it's like my 4th fav on the album, not neccecerarly THE BEST song, but overall on how good it as AND on how much i listened to it, bc there are songs like ghostin' that are some of her best, but i'm not in the mood mostly to listen to it, so i'd put it a bit below in my books. buwyg, ib started growing on me again few weeks ago even tho i already loved it so yeah, i love them both sm and i wish buwyg, ib was #1 for at least 1 week so all the singles could've been #1 which idk if that ever happened acually

All the arianators in the comments really tryna say she’s an icon of our generation. Like yeah she’s famous but her music has no hold. She’s not like Taylor or Gaga or Beyoncé etc. who have immense creativity and effort in their music, videos and performance. None of her songs are staples for our generation although she is an amazing singer and vocalist and I can understand why her voice gets her a lot of attention. There’s a lot of artists I can name who make amazing music and deserve more recognition while her music doesn’t really hold up in my opinion. I just expect a lot more and tbh I think the bar these years has been lowered and idk why

Arianators aren't the only one who are saying this. General public are saying this too, as well as professionals. She doesn't have to be Taylor, Gaga or Beyoncé, bc she's Ariana. Ariana also has immense creativity and effort in her music, videos and performances. Her songs are staples for our generation, what are you on about lmao. There's a lot of artists who are better and deserves more recognition than Taylor, Gaga and Beyoncé as well. I understand that her music doesn't hold up in your opinion but the things you said makes it seem like you're saying a fact, when it's not. The bars these years have been lowered in general and not only for Ariana lol. Ariana is only one of the few who have lifted the bar higher and higher with each song and album. Ariana is an icon of our generation, is an amazing artist, who's amazing, has enough staple songs, is an idol. If her music wasn't holding up, she wouldn't be as successful as she is and she wouldn't have millions of people who are listening to her. Whatever you said is indeed an opinion, not a fact. Edit : her music has hold, an immense hold.

Wrong AF. Ariana has more #1 hit songs than Gaga and Beyonce, no need to say she has more followers. Ariana Grande's generation is: Born in the 90's and started Music in the 2010's. Taylor is not from the same generation. And that gives relief, Ariana is on her own league and people know this, don't get mistaken. If anything is already time to stop sucking up that 80's generation and give more awards to Ariana Grande, to acknowledge even her Legendary status.
