This was the first cut out for 2017 for me. I was contacted by the homeowner in early December and was asked to remove the bees at that time. I asked her if we could wait till Spring as it would afford the bees a better chance of survival if we waited. She was all in favor of saving the bees and so we waited. Rocket Scientist Steve was with me again on this one and I was grateful for his help. So, here it is, the first cut out video for studio Bee Productions in 2017. God's peace to all. Mr. Ed

It's wonderful that the homeowner was willing to put the welfare of the bees first and allow you to remove them later on in the season. A beautifully constructed hive. A joy to see

Jeff Horchoff I am considering staring a local mostly non chemical pest removal. and no non chemical bee removal and relocation in my county in New Mexico is there any way I can speak with u on tips of the trade that might save me time, money, and energy. along with making it as human for the insects/ animals that I am looking to relocate as possible. thanks for your time man.

you still have to remove the hive, if you kill the bees. otherwise the hive will be a great food source for cockroaches, and you will never get rid of them unless you burn the building down.

@@JeffHorchoff We just took down a tree at our house and it turned out to have a wild bee nest, how do I move the nest without hurting them or getting stung to a proper place?
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff 3 жыл бұрын
@@Nari_Trovi As it is a much involved process, I'd recommend looking at one of the videos I made showing how I did it. It will require a bee suit as the bees will not be happy. Also, it needs to be done immediately, the time is ticking on those bees because the hive orientation is all wrong, and it won't be long before robber bees take note. I wish you and your bees success. God's peace. Mr. Ed kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJ-wdn-EhZygeJI

@BigRalphSmith 7 жыл бұрын
Jeff Horchoff _"I am praying for your peace during your time of struggle."_ Hey Jeff, I don't doubt that you're a good guy but I need to let you know something. Anytime a theist says something like "I'm praying for you" to an atheist, inside that seemingly positive and innocent sounding platitude, there's a tiny little kernel of "fuck you for not believing what I believe". Yeah, it's in there. Even if you don't realize it, it's there. Just some friendly advice: Feel free to do all the praying you like for whomever you want for whatever reason moves you but keep it to yourself. Your own "faith" instructs you to do just that in case you were unaware. (Matthew 6:5). Next time you get nice words or a compliment from an atheist, something like "thank you for the kind words" is sufficient. Really, it is. The assumption that someone is "struggling" just because they don't share your god beliefs is flat out erroneous but to actually say that to an atheist as you did is just a dick move. Trust me on that. Keep up these great videos. I love watching you work and wanted to say that your efforts at conservation, especially when bees are in such a bad way at this time, is greatly appreciated, even if you do get some monetary benefit as well. Keep helping bees and being a good person regardless of what you or anyone else believes about any gods. Thanks.

Since we share a great name I went and checked out your channel, you do some REALLY cool stuff. If I did not hate the cold weather so much, that's one reason I live in Louisiana, I'd be were you are doing what you do in your videos. Do you have to replace your bee every year? Do you ever harvest honey? Raising bees in a cold climate is definitely a challenge that I would not be up to. God love you for what you do. I'll think about you when I'm catching swarms, trapping bees, and doing cut outs and the weather is in the 90's. Stay safe, and thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed

Hi glad you liked my channel, Alaska is a beautiful place, check it out if you ever get a chance you will be blown away. We depend on cold weather and snow to travel, the rivers are our highways with no roads in or out. The kids play out at - 20 like its a normal day. I would like to live in a warm climate to garden and bee keep and move back for the winter.This was my first summer beekeeping,I think I am the northwestern most beekeep in North America, my package swarmed on me so I didn't get any honey, I caught the swarm and hoping she is still alive but we have terribly long winters ,and many AK bee keeps sadly don't overwinter or cant they say, I will keep trying though and have two more packages being flown in this April.we have flowers all summer long so its bee heaven in the summer. We don't have any wild honey bee's here so hoping I can raise some clean bee's possibly mite free some day and get some honey.Thanks again for sharing !

I don’t know much about bees but I’ve seen how gentle you were with their extraction and humane with the relocation. I’m just curious about what happens to the hive without a Queen even though you have the brooder hive in place?
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff 4 жыл бұрын
A hive needs a queen bee for the function of laying eggs to perpetuate the colony. Without a queen, no new bees and the colony will fail. However, if there are eggs present in the colony that are still young enough, 3 days old or less, the bees can make a new queen from that eggs and things are on track again. Of course this process takes about 14 days till the new queen will emerge, and them another 20 days or so before she can be mated and start laying eggs. I post these videos, to show just how important bees are to our very survival, and why we should not just kill them out of ignorance. I have been rescuing bees from being needlessly destroyed for over 6 years now, and hope to continue to do so for many more years to come. Did you vacuum the bees with the frames in the box already? If you did, isn't it something that could hurt them ?
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff 6 жыл бұрын
The bees that are vacuumed are deposited in a bee box that has 10 frames inside of it. Because there is only "dead air" inside of the box, the bees crawl onto the frames. When I go to set the boxes up, I place the comb that I removed from the wall and put into frames and then into another 10 frame box, over the box that has the vacuumed bees in it. I remove the screen that separates the two boxes and the bees crawl onto their own comb. The bees are not hurt doing it this way.Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed

Mr. Ed. I’ve watched a number of your videos. A lot of your videos show you removing hives from homes. A few of questions. Do you sign a contract with the owners about the removal? Do you guarantee the builds reconstruction to original state? Do you charge for removal of the hive or the swarm?
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff 4 жыл бұрын
I do not sign any contracts, as every one has come to me looking for help, they are more than happy to have the bees removed. I do realize it opens the door for lawsuits, but until that day comes, I will continue as I always have. Because I do not charge to remove the bees, it is the homeowners responsibility to repair all damages sustained from the bees and from removing them. Again, there has never been an issue with this either. God's peace Bill. Mr. Ed

It's very possible for the hive to survive if the queen is lost or left behind, they can make a new one or another queen can be introduced, video link below. Any bee vac is specially designed so as not to kill bees. Some work way better than others, I really like the way the vac I use works. On this cut out I vacuumed over 10,000 bees, and there were only 3 dead ones in the box. Not only is the mortality rate significantly lower than many vacs, but all the debris that is vacuumed along with the bees stays at the bottom of the vac and is not transferred to the brood when releasing the bees, VERY important. I'll know in a week weather I got the queen, but i am vey confident that I did. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed

What happens to the bees that don’t get vacuumed? I mean 12k is a lot but what happens to the ones still flying around, do they find they way home? Join another hive? Do they die? Or do you vacuum every last one off camera? I understand you can’t save all of them but I’m curious if they can find their way back to their Queen after they’re taken away.

Yes it is. The bee vac is specially designed NOT to harm bees. It allows me to remove the bees from the comb, unharmed, so that I can remove the comb and place it in frames . @JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff 2 жыл бұрын
If you use a shop vac that is unaltered it will kill the bees. There has to be a valve to bleed off excess vacuum making the suction power of the vac low enough not to tear the bees to bits as they are vacuumed, yet strong enough to vacuum them up. An adjustable gate/valve needs to be installed to make this happen. The link below is on how I made my bee vac. Good luck with your removal, I hope it goes well for you and the bees. I have a question. I will be doing my first cut out at and old restaurant in the kitchen. The new owners posted and add on face book I seen it and jumped on it I have been there and found they were going in a hole behind some guttering. The building is made of old time brick and has a flat roof. The lady that bought the property said she has to clean up a lot of bees that have died in a window that some try to get out of. I found were they are and its in some what looks like old wooden duct work that is below the ceiling that is all tong and grove. I tapped on the wood duct work looking stuff and you can hear them inside very load and then I see the hole were they came out in to the kitchen. Have you ever had a client that you did a cut out that after you remove the Bees want the stuff put back as if it was never cut out. I know when I do that Im going to do every thing I can to make sure I can take stuff a part with out tearing it up so I can put it back to ether when done. I cant wait to get started on my cut out. it might cost me some in material if I have to buy stuff to put the stuff I cut out back. but I think it much cheaper than having to buy a package of bees, or a nuc.
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff 7 жыл бұрын
I have been removing bees from structures for about 6 years now, and I can tell you, it is way cheaper to purchase bees rather than to cut them out of a structure. I spend between 4 to 7 hours on a cut out, and after all that time invested, the bees can die from the stress of the cut out or just leave after you have set them up. My advice would be not to rely on a cut out to grow your bees. Do the cut out because it interest you to do it, and you want to gain some insight on wild bees. Also, she should pay you to remove the bees, and in the price you quote her, include the material you would need to repair what was destroyed getting to the bees. Again, this is just my opinion. I wish you all the best in your endeavor. Let me know how things work out. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed

thanks for information. This is my first cut out or even first time ever getting a wild hive. I guess when I get good at it, I will think on charging people. but for now I'm doing it for free for both the experience and getting to meet new people. I enjoy just setting in a lawn chair and just set and watch my two hives I have now. For me its just more as a hobby, and getting to hopefully save a honey bee hive seems rewarding to me. I already have a spot set up a way from my other 2 hives since I don't now the condition of this new hive, so I can later check to see if they have mites or any other diseases, that could effect my existing hives. With me working a full time job, I have to chose wisely the hives I get and this one looks like it should be easy to get to and get out since what I will have to take down looks like it will be easy to remove and put back with out much cutting or replacing. But for me its just rewarding and if I can add to what I already have then it could be a win win. again thanks for the great advice.

Man I learned a lesson today. This is my last cut out unless its on a building that is getting demolished, were I don't have to put stuff back. The darn bees were in the ceiling behind Bead board most some of it was rotten from water damage that's how they got in. Man I got stung so many darn times I'm like bushed waked for real. I worked on it from 10 this morning till 6, 8 hours of having honey dripping all over me and every thing sticking I had bee gloves on so I didn't get my hands stung when taking the comb down. it was hard getting the comb down with the nails that cam though from the flat roof. My bee vac worked great I filled a tote almost to the top with bees I saved 10 frames of brood and young, never did see the queen must have vac her up, it was kind of dark and they wanted to swarm the light, and when I got home and put them in the box they stayed in and the ones left out went in to the bee hive. with some small clusters of about 10 to 20 bees here and there on the out side of the bee hive But man that was all together a day from hell, I will be investing in a bee suit for sure. I think I took at least 30 stings just dumping the dang tote, I put a deep hive body with out frames on top of a deep with the cut out brood and man they were all over me, they hated my guts. it was one of those doge and run today one heck of a work out for sure. but got it done later I will go back and put some empty frames in the top body to fill it out so they dont draw comb from the inner cover. Just so I can let them calm down some. I'm hopping I got the queen if not I did make sure I gathered the queen cells that were there there were 5 and i put them on the frames. But man did I say it was rough. I will just stick to swarms LOL. I dont know why they want it put back together like it was the places needs gutted. But I will put it back. I see what you mean you charge them for the cut outs if they want it back. I mean I will buy just some 1x1's two bead boards and use as much as what I cut out. and some paneling to replace the rotted stuff that just fell a part in my hands. I say I learned a lot today. Next time Charge for the job unless they are just going to cut the place, or tare it down. I wont do another place like this again. Now after all the trouble I just hop they stay and dont leave and they do good.

We do share an incredible likeness, but he's about a foot taller than me. I post these videos, to show just how important bees are to our very survival, and why we should not just kill them out of ignorance. I have been rescuing bees from being needlessly destroyed for over 9 years now, and hope to continue to do so for many more years to come. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace. Mr. Ed

How do you protect the bees when vacuuming?
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff 5 жыл бұрын
The bee vac is specially designed NOT to harm bees. It allows me to remove the bees from the comb, unharmed, so that I can remove the comb and place it in frames . Later, the bees are released from the bee vac and rejoined with their queen and comb. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed

Not everyone is meant to be a bee keeper, but still you can appreciate the importance of bees and the role they play in our very survival as pollinators. Plus, they make honey. The method of removing a hive is very time consuming due to the difficulty of removing the hive and saving the bees. I post these videos, to show just how important bees are to our very survival, and why we should not just kill them out of ignorance. I have been rescuing bees from being needlessly destroyed for over 8 years now, and hope to continue to do so for many more years to come. We did the removal early in the morning while it was still chilly. The bees did not fly all that much due to the fact they were keeping the brood warm. As I knew the temperatures would be rising during the day, I did not worry about damaging the young bees still in the comb. Thanks for watching, and hope you check out more of my bee videos and let me know what you think. God's peace. Mr. Ed
