I just also want to add I think it is great when you are taking stuff apart to access the bee’s you do as little damage as possible even in this structure which will probably be torn down . Handy Tipz don’t forget a bucket to put water in to wipe the honey off your hands & tools. The hotter the water the better but not boiling of course. Hope all goes well for you & the bees. 🤘👍🐝

oh my god! I have been watching your vedios and learned so much. a swarm just came in at work and took over the inside of a canipy pole. I took my phone and very gently put it in the hole and took a vedio. the adrenaline is so high I feel like I could fly. if you get this kind of rush each time you remove a hive or catch a swarm I KNOW who you do what you do. I do not know how to get it from my phone to you or I would send it to you. thank you greatly for your vedios and what they teach and what a person can learn. I learned that with a new swarm the bees are USUALLY not pissey and I was very cautious on aproaching them to see how they would act. the we're very gentel. thank you again

You audio is vastly improved. Sony is the best for two reasons: the fast sampling rate and more importantly the CODEC they developed gives incredibly good quality in very small files. I sing in the Arcadian Chorale and use a Sony ICD-MX20 to record rehearsals by placing it on the piano to capture the music from the pianist. People who have tried other brands comment about the superior quality of the recordings.

Nice work JP. I noticed a lot of the bee fannings from the top outside 2x4 before you opened up the inside which made me think the queen was on the comb. The comb was really light colored cause it was new comb ? Anyways nice job .

Raymond Ward we started a discussion yesterday I believe it was on my Facebook page titled JPthebeeman & Friends. Time will tell the tale on the giant Asian hornet’s impact on our honey bee colonies & our lives in general. Too soon to tell how we will be affected just yet but apparently they’ve been reported before the big article hit the presses yesterday & people are commenting about their experiences, none which are good btw. They are formidable insects though no doubt, approximately 5 times larger than honey bees & can wipe out a honey bee colony of 30,000 individuals in hardly any time, like a few hours. Fingers crossed they don’t spread fast or even take a legitimate foothold in North America as there just doesn’t seem to be any beneficial value to them that I can see. 😬

Hey JP....well my first time using it, it did ok then when I took a small break i couldn't get the suction I wanted. Wrote the inventor and he said to make sure you are closing the top lid real good...sometimes you have to shuffle lid a bit to make sure its sealing, if not it wont suck very well.. Looks like that did the trick. Love it now!! thanks for all your videos..have learned a ton. I have 3 hives now..seem to be doing great! I'm not going to get honey this year but was thinking of putting in 3 more nucs this fall so that in spring I will be ahead of the game. Your thoughts?? thanks!

Totally up to you. If you think they'll overwinter well where you're located then go for it! Incidentally, the man who makes & sells the bee vacs, he & I collaborated on the design. He called me about 4 years ago, wanting to put out a commercial bee vac. He had his ideas, I had mine. Together we tested & hashed out the details & what you purchased is the finished product. Everyone I have run across who sees it in action can't help but purchase one. Hope you enjoy yours for many years to come!

when the bees are sucked up with bee vac...do you have to keep them cool somehow?

Cooling them down some when it's extremely hot out does help. I usually mist them lightly with water, sometimes add a wet rag with some ice partly covering the catch box en route. As long as the vac is running they are being ventilated. Never put the catch box on a very hot day in direct sun light for more than say fifteen minutes unless there is a stiff breeze. On hot days when I need to leave the catch box on site I try to place them in a shady spot out of direct sunlight.

Todd Egan the catch box is placed atop a hive body, usually with brood comb. The bottom slides out & the bees drop down into the bottom box usually by the following morning.
