Jayna I love your point about wanting your boys to respect women no matter what they are wearing, specifically your comment about topless women in tribal cultures and still being able to preach Jesus to her. That is an excellent way to look at it.

One of the things my Dad taught me and I will never forget is " It is braver to be the only one saying no, than to go with the group" relating to friends wanting to do something stupid and daring you. And you think it's brave to go along, but the true bravery is to say no and be the one to not do the stupid thing.

As a mom of young men, I really like Jayna’s comments on teaching our sons respect for women. Modesty is not only physical appearance, but a general attitude about the human body. Reigning themselves in is a modesty standard for men! Food-like substance, I felt that comment! 😅 You won’t fix your health with a powdered drink your friend sells, or interesting “supplements.” Eat less added sugar and junk, and eat more real food, it’s that simple. We aren’t in control ultimately, and the Lord already knows exactly when our earthly life will end. Praise God!

This was such a great episode! Several comments resonated with me (even though I'm not a homemaker, I'm a single, no kids, and a master's student). I LOVED Megan's comment about how youtube has made her more open minded and helped to not get stuck in an echo chamber. We hear so often about the negative & polarizing side of social media, but it can also increase empathy and curiosity! Also, Jayna's comments about teaching her sons to respect women is so wise. 💯 Also, I'm glad Megan mentioned church hurt. I think this is something that we should talk about more as Christians. In my experience, my own "church hurt" slowly started to heal when a Christian friend listened to my story with empathy and no judgement or defensiveness. When they said, "It's understandable that you don't feel safe at church. I would feel the same if I had your experiences." That's when I started to think, "hmm maybe I kind of might like to try coming back." If only believers knew how healing empathy can be 😊

What Jayna said about still including people of different beliefs/lifestyles as long as they're acting respectful and appropriate made me a little teary eyed. It's nice to hear Christians say stuff like that. I've unfortunately known too many people who have been shunned by their family and it completely devastated them emotionally. Being a light in their life I think is so valuable. Obviously, sometimes we may need boundaries of some kind. But shunning entirely can push non-believers or people of different lifestyles further and further away from wanting anything to do with spirituality. In my case, it was even someone in the immediate family! I'm glad we chose to still be hospitable and welcome them into our home for holidays and get togethers.

Jana's suggestion of how to keep communication open between parents and children is excellent. As she was saying how she talks to her boys, it reminds me that our children are so different but having that kind of open communication, you can easily see how they respond and then relate/handle them accordingly. You ladies have shared a lot of wholesome thoughts.

When confronted with a loved one who made a life choice that I am fundamentally opposed to, I had to work through a lot of prayers to finally understand that it’s not my job to judge, I need to leave that to God. It’s my job to just love this person. Once I understood this, I felt a lot calmer and less distressed. We need to let God handle things and just be a witness for Him. Enjoy your month off. ❤

So yes I agree with y’all on so much. I think that we as Christian’s are so quick to write our loved ones off bc we just are judging without knowing them. We must remember that His grace is on us daily because we too aren’t perfect. Or at least I’m not. Yes Jayna, core doctrine and what is personal preference!!

Love what you said Jayna. You have to model modesty while also preparing your children to handle situations where temptation and immodesty are going to be in front of them. Unfortunately, our sons and daughters are going to be targeted online and inperson with these things and they have to have the tool of self-control.

Regarding healthy lifestyle: being in the second half of my life I learned that the most important thing is to avoid sugar as sugar is causing an acid environment in our body which causes inflammations and in the next step cancer. You can live quite careless when you are young but when you get to a certain age then the mistakes made in the youth e.g., unhealthy food are presenting at a later stage of life.

Most people i know who obsess over healthy food (including myself) deal with health issues and are just trying to feel better. Most of the time, fixing your diet can really make a positive change in how you feel. Sometimes you have to go drastic to get the change you want - To feel normal again. Food is very powerful and can really impact your body and mind. I personally don't know anyone who does it for beauty or aesthetics. Not saying its not a reason for some.

I agree. I don’t obsess, but I do take care to buy food to prepare that is more nourishing for our bodies. I think it’s something you don’t consider until you start to have health issues.

I agree too- if we are to be good stewards of our fertility, money, ect… then clearly we should be good stewards of our bodies and what we eat. I have a child who would have been put on loads of medication for ADHD but we choose to change her diet and at times are strict about it (like a friends birthday party). Why would i ignorantly feed her dyes knowing she will spend the second half of the day crying hysterically and clinching? That shouldn’t be considered obsessive, it should be praised that we are raising children in a natural way vs man’s big pharma.

@@momoflittleladies💯 you are doing your child a great service! Those who haven’t walked our journey in behavior or health issues that are clearly linked to what we eat don’t understand. Hello Megan and Jayna; Wow, you two are so spot on today! So many times we may loose faith for one reason and/or another and then we need time to find our way back to the path that is ours... (it may be a hurt or an outside pressure that pushes us to step back or away and in my experience, it just takes time and we need to allow ourselves that time too...!!!) And yes, as God loves us, so we are to love one another, as I understand... We are not all the same so room for healthy acceptance of healthy differences seems to be the key... I so appreciate all you both had to say... keep up the good work! Take care God Bless Hugs Linda in Canada ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I don't understand grams in measuring at all! I am open to it though. I used to run a modesty ministry and it is all just a heart issue where different people see modesty in different ways. There was a time when showing your ankles or a part of your elbows was sinful. I used to be really strict on much of what I wore but some of my comfortability was a factor. I loosened up a lot and learned a lot. . because I became too prideful with what I felt was modest and not being kind to others, etc. Now, I figure everyone is at a different stage in life and a different understanding of modesty. I see some really beautifully strong Christian mothers who wear things I wouldn't dream of, but they love God so much and for them, what they wear is between them and God and even their husband too. You know? I really love what you ladies said about not being judgmental of others and having calm and lovely conversations with people. I am a mom of three sons and I have had great conversations with my boys about modesty and sexuality and why virtues of a woman instead of what pleases their eye is more important. They are so respectful and mature in this regard. I have also told them to look away and to not lust. They tell me sometimes about how some girls dress around them and they have had to look away and made sure to not linger (my oldest two are 15 and in a few days 17). How cute about the attraction in regards to what your husbands DO in a moment. I feel that way too. When I was involved with a few homeschooling co-ops, the mothers came from all different denominations, and I really learned a lot about them and where each came from. They all believed such varied things from me (a Mennonite) but it was fun to learn from one another. Now my older two are in a public high school and they have learned about kids with parents from different countries and such, but there are so many things I don't really like them being around and I wish I could shelter them fully. . .but at least we have good conversations and my sons are so open with me about things. It is really good. I loved your discussion and really appreciate you two.

I think that women swimsuits should be long like men's swimming trunks. I feel the same as women track and volleyball shorts. They are both extremely short. I am 65 and played sports and hated the short shorts.

Yeah why is that? If men can play in longer shorts, so can women!

Amen to this. The high school girls volleyball shorts are just thick underwear and girls walk everywhere in them.

To whomever posted the swimsuit question, just know this opinion is Jayna and Megan's opinion. Many mennonites do not wear traditional bathing suits (tankinis, bikinis) and do not go to public beaches. We want to preserve modesty. We swim in private ponds or pools with knee length skorts, shorts etc. I disagree strongly with "modesty is relative" or "modesty is situational". Modesty is not relative. That's like saying you can have a different level of modesty when you go to Walmart versus when you go to church. I grew up in Lancaster County, and I allowed my conscience to be dictated by the Mennonite culture at large there. It took years for me to realize that teaching my children about modesty and wearing dresses at home and then taking them to a public beach (while wearing a traditional swimsuit) was extremely inconsistent and confusing. They say it's not safe to wear a long denim skirt. Nobody is doing that! There are very modest (and safe) options for swimsuits online. I post this not to start contention, but so that the person who posted this question (and anyone else curious about Mennonites) knows that some of us believe very differently from Jayna and Megan. I for one believe modesty is the same everywhere, all the time.

I love that your top places were Utah and Colorado. I grew up in Colorado and now live in Utah. Growing up in the west my family dreams of places over on the east side of the country. I have a six year old that obsessed with visiting Pennsylvania. I’m sure your videos have contributed to that 😂.

If you have friends or family members who are living a lifestyle that's clearly forbidden in scripture, yes, be loving and maintain as much relationship as possible, BUT make sure you're openly talking with and teaching your children through that, and it may be very appropriate to limit the access to your children without you present. Your children are top priority over other extended relationships.... not to shelter them, but so that they're not influenced beyond what they can handle. I have seen bad things happen due to too much access. So sad.

I konda have to disagree with Jayna on how inclusive to be with family or friends who have left behind biblical principles. Paul says to withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly and not after the tradition that they have received of us, but also to not treat them as an enemy but admonish them as a brother. If there is no shame for walking away from God's design for us humans then people get the idea that it's ok. It's not ok. When we throw off the covering it's like saying i don't need to obey God's order of headship, and when we decide that we don't need to obey God's order of headship, we are literally saying I don't need to obey God, which is what satan did when God cast him out of heaven. I don't mean to sound angry but it's something I'm very passionate about. On the other side when Christians grow up not wearing a head covering, i don't believe that they're sinning until they're convicted to wear one. Because the bible says that for him who knows to do good and does it not, to him it is sin. In response to wearing men's clothing, I don't think that just because you are wearing pants that that is considered men's clothing. There are pants that are specifically designed for women , and you KNOW they're designed for women . Sometimes women in pants can br more modest than a woman wearing a tight revealing dress or skirt. Also you can tell when someone is cross dressing, which i think is the point. I wear dresses and some skirts unless I'm out in dense brush where a skirt is more of a hindrance than anything, or riding horses.

Read Galatians 6:1 We are called to “Restore” I also believed in shunning based on 3 verses from scripture, then my sister went astray and it was very hard to shun her and I wanted to help her. After studying about restoring and reconcilation I reached out and she was restored to God and the church. And then again later our son went astray we applied same scripture, unconditional love and a lot of praying, he also was restored. Gods Word works when we practice it altogether. Hope this encourages you to reach out to your loved ones.

So do we disregard what God's word says, because we think we know better? Sometimes love is tough, but we do need to have a balance between not accepting their lifestyle while also being loving. We need to be loving in our shunning. I'm sure there are people that can go too far in n shunning, but since Paul says treat him not as an enemy but admonish him as a brother, that implies a balance, and to know the balance we need to know God's word. I know of a minister whose church had to shun his son. They did it lovingly, and he was restored.

Whoever asked sbout the swim attire...I have modest swimwear. I wear a skirt swimsuit, they do make those, and a swim top that covers everything. Modesty does not go out the window. Don't get me started about the volleyball underwear. If somehing needs to be addressed, that does😅

I have to disagree. Modesty is not situational. Also the Bible says that women are not to wear garments pertaining to a man. So the very shorts you refer to wearing while swimming would go directly against that. We believe that if a situation does not allow us to be modest, then we choose other activities. We limit our swimming to the beach when we are camping. My girls and I all wear MOD skirts to swim in. They are great! Not dangerous at all. Might be an option for you?

So, Jesus wore robes in scripture and He is a man. Should women not wear longer dresses, skirts or robes because then they are “wearing garments pertaining to men”? Modesty is situational/cultural… clearly or you would not be wearing dresses!

Concerning Swimwear, have you seen how back in the Victorian ages or so, women would rent a horse drawn carriage that would take them into the water to swim so that they didn’t have to be seen by men above water? I feel like that would be hilarious to bring back 🤣

I personally have only worn a swimsuit once as an act of rebellion when I went on a trip to Jamaica. But I also don’t know how to swim….so I never considered that you need form fitting for safety. I grew up wearing the silliest clothes to the beach/pool. But now I’m glad I don’t feel the need to show off my body. My friends who grew up wearing bikinis would act like they had to sit at the pool in a bikini or else they couldn’t go. And they would be in a coverup because they were insecure to show their bodies. It’s actually freeing to not HAVE to feel like you have to wear a swimsuit in the USA

Also, I grew up in a different culture. I would be so embarrassed to wear a swimsuit in front of family. I CANNOT IMAGINE showing off my butt and legs to my own FAMILY. My husband comes from a beach town in El Salvador and says none of the locals wear bikinis. Only the tourists. I think this is mostly a western thing

@@HoneyImHomemakerI genuinely believe we would have less creeps if we didn’t wear tight fitting suits to the beach or pool. Now that I’m a mom, I understand why I wouldn’t want my daughter in a swimsuit either. There are so many gross people I don’t even want to think about it 😢
