Guys, this is in essence an electrostatic filter. It's different from classic powered electrostatic filters in having a dielectric coating over the ionizing wires and the oppositely charged collecting surfaces. That's the ifD tech. It still cleans air by charging particles in the air so they'll then stick to the oppositely charged collecting surfaces downstream. Whatever assumptions you make about standard physical filters wouldn't apply to it. For one, cleaning it will restore its efficiency far better than your written report assumes, with little degradation due to the number of times its been cleaned, so long as you don't damage its electrostatic mechanism. For another, its highest cleaning efficiency, in terms of the smallest size of particles it'll collect, wouldn't be at its max fan speed, but one of the lower ones. ... Granted, Honeywell probably could've designed a better filter with this tech if they wanted. Still, it's a lot better than their first go with this tech, the QuietClean series.

I recently bought the Honeywell AirGenius 5 at Target and I love it! I have really bad allergies, and I was constantly blowing my nose and had watery eyes and that’s what prompted me to go get it. I was literally suffering. I bought it today a few hours ago and my eyes stopped watering and my nose stopped running. What a relief! I’m very happy with it! Totally worth my health and comfort.

What you need is a dehumidifier! =) This unit does not affect humidity in any way.

No. HEPA works by forcing air through a dense medium, which requires a lot of air pressure. The ifD filter technology this unit uses has far less air resistance, thus less powerful fans are required. That is why this unit is quieter and uses less energy. It is superior to HEPA in every respect. Even for 0.3 micron particle capture.

The foam filter is. I'd think carbon filters would lose some efficacy if washed, but I don't see why not.

Thank you, I agree on all of your points. It is hard to make a choice actually even knowing it is not nearly as good as the true HEPA filter one. I really like about the ease of the permanent filter. The last point, it is possible that it will produce ozone gas.

Ozone is usually generated by ionization. Many units on the market have an ionization mode that can be turned on/off. Some have it always on with no way to turn it off. Some, like this unit, don't ionize air at all - and because it doesn't ionize air it shouldn't generate ozone.

No, I believe the AirGenius 6 still uses permanent washable filters.

Good wash filter. Good soak in TSP. It always is dirty. Weekly clean. Grease oils wipe out effects of filter

The air genius 5 is becoming harder to fine. I’ll stick with my Honeywell True HEPA Tower Allergen Remover, HPA160 for now.

I own an AirGenius 6 and it's on 24/7 and the ozone it produces is undetectable. Even if you put your nose up to the front grill... Even walking into the house after being away for a while.. there are no ozone smell at all. This means that the levels are very very low. I also own an ozone generator so the smell of ozone is quite familiar to me. I wouldn't be scared of this at all =)
